John Fleck

Six-foot strikers? Could do with another one, to be honest. Especially if Manucho turns out to be the busted flush I fear he might be.

No I meant position wise I am sure you figured that out from the rest of my post..

I did and I agreed with all the rest of your post - about young players' role changing as they mature. But if tihs lad really does have the potential to play as well as Rooney, plus a bit better in the air, he could be the perfect all-round striker and we can always find room for someone like that.

We always said it wouldn't work with two Rooneys (Tevez), let's try three.

Plus if he turns out to be any good we can always put Rooney out on the left!

True that..

Man I don't want to get into that (Yes I have read the entire thread) but :nono:

By Rooney on the left I take it you mean the Scottish version? Would seem a little silly to have the right footed Rooney on the left and the left footed Fleck up front rather than the other way around.

http://www.skysports.com/football/transfers/scout

article on skysports scouting the lad. Not sure how to take these scout report things buy by all accounts the lad looks like he could be the real deal.

Yeah was reading that yest too Franky. He seems to be this great Scottish hope, that they've been crying out for. Its remarkable the similarities between himself & Rooney at that age. My Rangers supporting mates from up north, say this kid is gonna be world class & predict him moving to United!

feck it, i dont mind us buying every top kid going around!

Rangers have zero money so i think if the lad is consistent for them he could be moving on as early as the summer. Personally i would want to see him get at least one full season at Rangers before trying his luck elsewhere. My season ticket holding Rangers mate says he really is the scottish wayne Rooney and i respect his footballing opinions. At 17 he's been the best player in the team. WHilst i know Rangers dont exactly have world class player, they do have good experienced pros and for a kid of 17 to be showing them up tells you something.

Are Rangers really that broke?

If he's as good as it sounds he is, another season in the shop window could add 10s of millions to his value. Doubt they'll get more than a few million quid for him this summer.

TBO if he really is that good i'de like us to buy him and loan him back to Rangers so that he can get 1st team football and continue learning his trade.

That sounds about right... But SAF IMO prefers to have players here at first rather than away at first.. There are very few players that come to mind that SAF has purchased and directly sent on loan again... Can anyone help me on this?

Foster (Because he was a keeper and he needed regular first team action to progress)

Ljajic (More out of compulsion than requirement. I am sure SAF would have loved to have him here)

I think missing the champions league hit them really hard. In January they pretty much said that any player was available for transfer. Due to how crap they are no-one actually wanted to buy any of them anyway

Was surprised Spurs never went in for McGregor, thought he could've been a good signing for them.

I think we should definitely look at this lad in the summer and exploit Rangers apparent need for cash. I think even with what little football he's had in the first team Rangers would be looking at 10m+ for him, this based on all the hype surrounding him alone.

Any longer at Rangers and his price tag is likely to go up. I'm quite sure if SAF wants the lad then he'll get him.

Or those players who could have gone didn't actually want to leave. Never mind, each to their own interpretation.

Fleck to move on this summer would be a bit premature for his long-term development, far better to establish himself in the Rangers team and get some experience under his belt.

But could you not have said the same with Wayne Rooney?

Actually i've just remembered Fergie did want Rooney to stay at Everton for another season but Newcastles interest forced his hand.

Well that's changed my view on things!! unless somebody else comes in for him I do think he'll stay up there for another year!

I know but, for every Rooney, there's half a dozen Bojan Djordics or Jermaine Pennants

Aye, just look at Kris Boyd's scoring record up there.

And he's a pretty average footballer.

No doubt Boyd is a twat and pretty rubbish but he has an eye for the goal and is very well suited to banging in goals. Only Larsson has scored more in the SPL than Boyd.

Boyd is a grade A chump but as a penalty box striker he is quite good, can head the ball (as long as it's at goal) is fairly strong and can strike a ball very well with either foot. Outside the box he is redundant and that's why he'll never be a good player despite his prolific goal scoring talents.

Some of us could be from Luxembourg. It wouldn't make Scottish football any less shit.

Great entertainment though. Especially old firm games. Just not great quality.

EDIT: Agree with your edit though. This doesn't mean Fleck is shit. He might well be as good as he's hyped up to be.

Wasn't a dig at irish as such just it's a bit crass to dismiss a talented player based on the league he plays in. Very typical comments to boot.

Fair point.

Irish league football is exponentially shitter than Scottish league football but it's had some very talented 17 year-olds playing football there over the years. Our very own Roy Keane was 19 by the time he signed for Forest.

Just as well Clough didn't think "Pffft... Irish football..."

are we even proven to be interested in this kid?

If we are then a loan back to rangers I thinks a great idea. oK the standard isn't as high as you'd like it to be but it's still competitive.

For someone so limited he makes great use of it, I'll give him that.

It's not even the amount of goals he scores, but it's the variety of them that makes it quite impressive.

The fact that he does it all in the Scottish league brings it way down in terms of recognition though.

That is true but I suppose his saving grace is that he hasn't played down south yet. So unlike other Scottish players who were pretty good in Scotland but failed in England there is a bit of hope for him. Course it's up to him if he wants to take the risk or not.

I don't pretend to be some ITK but my boss was a season ticket holder at Ibrox and now works at the ground in the press box on match days. He attends several reserve/youth games too. His daughter is a big Rangers fan and has Fleck as a "friend" on MSN.

He said that somebody from United (often Ferguson) enquires about him weekly. Apparently even contacting him directly....illegally. :nervous:

By the sound of things, he is (even by Scotish standards) going to be a hell of a player.

He's not a bullshitter and trust the info is correct. But then again, United probably contact hundreds of players across the world, so read into it what you will.
