Johan Cruyff 1947-2016

Even a tremendous figure outside football. He did things for Catalunya way beyond football.

Aye, the man was a visionary.

I’m ex-player, ex-technical director, ex-coach, ex-manager, ex-honorary president. A nice list that once again shows that everything comes to an end.

:(

RIP Johan, not only football will miss you, but all that have touched some way or another.

R.I.P. to Cruyff, one of football's best ever.

Speaking of great, LFC never misses any opportunity to sing their own praises.

utter twats. Reminds me of that pic of Rodgers et al with big grins standing next to 9/11 victims in New York

Didn't play in Argentina 78 World Cup because some kind of violent kidnap attempt on him and his family upset him but still only capped 48 times for Holland, seems a bit low.

Absolute fecking legend, probably my all time favourite player.

My Dutch mum - who doesn't give the slightest shit about football - is practically in tears at his death. Such was his impact. A massive massive loss to the world.

I'm not sure if it's been posted in this thread yet, but I'll leave this video here.

How is what Liverpool did disgusting? It's like people who post pics of them with people who died, with a caption RIP. It's their way of claiming a connection to Cryuff, which is somewhat shallow, but had good intentions IMO.
I wouldn't say disgusting, but I think it's pretty crass.

Trying to extract personal gain out of it. The focus is on him, not on what he has said towards their club. I find it a bit distasteful. You can put it as a part of 50 other quotes to honor him(although again I'd still keep the focus on him rather than their club), but not as a headline ffs.

Ah, I see what you mean.

Just seen this. One of the best ever, up there with Pele and Maradona.

RIP Cruyff, a true legend of the sport

Has there ever been a player who combined genius-level footballing intellect with near perfect technique like Cruyff? I can't think of many who rival him, and he continued revolutionizing the game even after his retirement as a player. One of the biggest legends the game has seen. This news hit me with a lot of shock. I'd heard about his illness, but everything reported in the media indicated that he was winning the fight. Cancer is an absolute fecker, and this year especially, it seems.

Rest in peace.

There might have been one or two slightly better players in the history of the game, there may even have been one or two better coaches somewhere. But as the all round package, and what he brought to the game, he is the most important figure in the history of football for me.

Legend.

Wasn't disgusting but yeah shallow is right. Made me feel queasy reading it, a more appropriate quote would have been better.

RIP second best player that ever played the game.

smooth , had what seemed like more time on the ball than other players. just perfect for football.

He is the reason I loved football. We lost a great man.

Terrible news for football. You'd be hard pressed to think of anyone who had more influence on modern football.

St Peter probably doesn't even realise that Johan's gone past him.

feck this year.

First celebrity death to affect me this year. The guy pretty much defined this era of playing with his style as a player and manager.

It is disgusting.

What that tweet is essentially saying is this:

Hey, that fecker that just died you are all talking about, he knew just how great we are.

No need for it.

How many of you, like me, practiced and used the 'Cruyff Turn' in their playing days?
My go to move to beat a player. Worked every time too which I found ridiculous because it was so simple.

Carved his own gigantic spot in football history. RIP
