Joey Barton - ex manager - wannabe podcaster

I ignore because when it's this obvious it's quite clearly bait and grifting. Though too many can't help themselves which means they'll never be fully ignored.

Deplatforming works though. It was like Katie Hopkins fell off the face of the earth.

Hopkins was deplatformed because people spoke up. Just like how Barton is now blacklisted from media work. If what both have said were ignored, they would still be on tv.

Some want to call it trial by social media, or woke mob rule or other such shite, but that's just to keep people from not actually speaking their minds. The more he is called a cnut, the less likely he is to be part of what he really wants.

I don't agree with the head in the sand take.

These people never go away and if unchallenged are free to be as nasty and evil as they like. Then make money from it.

Look at the rise of Tate, look at Epstein and how all that is still not being unfolded. Silence, tutting, and curtain drawing is not the answer.

Joey Barton is slightly different to Epstein in fairness. He wasn't using social media looking for attention.

If everyone just ignored idious bellends like him and Tate on social media they wouldn't make any money out of it because they wouldn't be given the platform to do it. They feed off the attention they get for being trolls. He'd just be another arsehole talking shite down the gym or the pub, who people actively avoid and when they're ignored they shut up and piss off.

He shouldn't be given the time of day by anyone.

But people don't ignore them, that's the whole point.

And people didn't speak up against Epstein, that's the point too.

Making it about gender is where he is coming across like a complete misogynistic clown. Aluko for example is absolutely dreadful as are a lot of the women. Aluko is next level though.

But he should be made to listen to John Hartson who is by some distance the worst commentator or pundit on television. He doesn’t know the rules and still goes mental everytime the assistant referee doesn’t put his flag up for offside right away. He’s beyond stupid.

You also have Michael Owen and Martin Keown who are completely thick.

You can't seriously compare an internet troll like Barton to Epstein. he's just a sad attention seeking twat.

In reality Joey Barton is a nobody, his views are mirrored by men like him all over the place, if they went on social media and started posting this guff they'd be ignored and rightly so. That's all that needs to happen here. What he's saying isn't important or new or radical, he's just being a gobshite for clicks and attention. Like all trolls if he stopped getting attention for it he would piss off.

I'm not comparing them.

I'm comparing the reactions to them. Some want to think it's not a problem and it will go away, others are scared to speak up.

Fact is he is clearly not a "nobody" as we are talking about him right now. Fact it, these people won't "go away" because they do get attention. They get attention and earn money from the thick and patriarchal twats, but mostly from those who crave validation. That will never change and the attention they get will only get worse. You either push back or you act like it's not your problem and it will all go away. Well it won't. It never has and it never will whilst people are happy to act like doing nothing is the answer.

Tate is bigger than ever because people took the bait. Epstein is all together different and the comparison doesn't work.

Best tactic is to ignore. He'll never "go away", he'll find a small audience regardless. Giving negative attention turns the small audience into a medium sized one. Negative attention can be used to try and prevent someone from working on say BBC, C4, Sky or such platforms, but thats not what hes trying to achieve. His goal is obviously to develop a niche audience online, or on GB News or similar- and the negative attention only increases his success in that regard.

Again, it's about the people that respond and find a place.

Channel 4 have a documentary about Tate about to go out. We aren't talking about some small time troll here.

It's all still burying heads to deny what is happening, same as it always was.

Aye, look at the Nazis.

He has no influence and I doubt he earns money from posting that shite on twitter. There are bigger problems in the world than some sexist arsehole posting crap about women and football.

He just wants attention, doesn't care how he gets it, he spent his entire career being a dickhead on the pitch and reveled in the boos and whistles coming from the crowds everyweek. Now that's over, he still craves the attention of being a pantomime villain to a crowd. It's the same behaviour, just on a different platform.

He should just be ignored by everyone, he'd soon go away.

You can keep repeating the same mantra over and over, that's up to you.

The fact is there is a thread on here about him, and you are involved in it. So much for turning a blind eye.

I'm all for researched investigations into these people to expose them, that's evidently an effective response. But the average person engaging with their tweets is just giving them oxygen and boosting their profile.

In the Tate example, if people had ignored him originally then he'd never have become high profile enough for Channel 4 to bother making a documentary about him. Negative attention from the masses just leads to mass engagement.

You’d think that if your brother did something so fecking horrible motivated by hatred you’d learn something. Cnuts like him don’t deserve a platform. Not simply a case of ignoring him either as plenty of cretins out there see this shite and think it justifies their backwards views too.

Learn something? The cnut helped him from what I remember.

I think he'll disappear soon, his career path fell into a pattern of quick smash and grab followed by dismissal a long time ago, he knows he's got limited time and then he's back under his rock until he finds another temporary grift. Hopefully his presence and faux outrage puts another nail in the coffin of these talk tv type "news" platforms. Anyone that allows him a platform automatically loses credibility, it stinks of desperation.

Saying on here that he should be ignored is not giving him anything. I'm not following him on twitter or engaging with anything he posts.
That's all people have to do, don't follow gowls like him and don't respond to any of the shite they post.

Feels like that's what's happening here and he's gone the Laurence Fox route

Well Hopkins was sued by Jack Monroe and went bankrupt I think.

Again, the point is people do positively. They buy the books, they pay for the "university" shite and they definitely pay for his channels.

They do not get ignored by the people who need it. He didn't come up based on "haters", he made it to this level through word of mouth as it were. You have to push back on this, you cannot bury your head and pretend it's because of blanket attention. It's a whole new world of misinformation and people need to accept that.

Absolutely. We need to call these people out on their bigotry. These people aren’t nobodies like someone on Twitter or Instagram posting comments with zero likes, they’re celebrities who already have a platform, or who make themselves a platform.

Trolls feed on attention. Football acted like we had a massive racism problem when every racist tweet generated a news story for a bit, which just motivated a load of neck beards to start racially abusing footballers.

Remove the reward, change the behaviour.

So is Joey Barton‘s philosophy that you must have played men’s football at a certain level to qualify as a credible pundit?. And the ”woke” agenda of networks is depriving him of his assumed rightful opportunities.

Surely even within this backward philosophy he still wouldn't be getting any TV work. Because if pundits were picked on the quality of their career, or even just ability there would genuinely be a thousand players from the Premier League era alone ahead of him (all positions not just midfielders).

It's naive to assume that simply ignoring someone like him would make the issue go away, the guy has a staggering 2.7 million followers on Twitter, that's higher than people like Jamie Carragher. He's not some fringe nobody who if we ignore it'll dent his influence, he's already established himself to a very sizeable following as this important anti-woke voice, we can ignore him but the impact of his words will continue to grow to that same sizeable audience and beyond.

I think there is a conversation to be had about the 'positive' discrimination we are currently observing, resulting in an over representation of fairly average to low quality female pundits.

There are female pundits who are absolutely there on merit, Alex Scott being one. Then there are others who are there to promote, what, I don't know as it is not equity or equality. That comes as the expense of some very good male pundits. Joey Barton is not one of those though.

Positive discrimination schemes are supposed to be temporary measures. Prove a demographic are capable of a role, break stigmas, reintroduce meritocracy.

Again, there's a conversation to be had. Joey Barton is clearly not the person to be doing that or affected in the way he thinks he is by current practices.

He really is trying to be the Andrew Tate of ex footballers.

Honestly think that Barton knows better. It is a bit. He is trying to monazite controversy because he knows he has no future in management or punditry.

This guys just doing edgelord internet trolling, which is ironic since his old podcast was called The Edge.

I don’t think there is a bigger cnut in the history of the sport. If he wasn’t a footballer, he’d probably be a crackhead chav mugging hard working people for a living.

ITV statement on it

Nearly got myself in a bit of bother. I was explaining to my gf what Barton had initially said about the comparison to Rose West, however I said Sienna West. She responded 'Don't you mean Rose, who's Sienna?' It then dawned on me I was referring to the porn star.

He’s always been a fecking wrong’un. He clearly knows after finishing an average to shit playing career and even worse managerial career that he’s about to fade into obscurity, so this is his last attempt to keep himself relevant. Say as much controversial shit as possible. The comparisons to Laurence Fox are very apt.

That's about the crux of it.
