Joe Allen to the dippers?

He's a superb little player and will fit right into Rodger's 4-3-3 system:

------------------- Reina ------------------

Johnson --- Skrtel ------ Agger? ------ Enrique

--------- Gerrard --- Lucas --- Allen ---------

Downing --------- Suarez -------------- Borini

Not a bad starting 11.

If they could pick up Adam Johnson from City on the cheap to replace Downing, that's a pretty good side.

Rather than getting players like Allen for £15m, I'm always surprised clubs don't get a couple of decent Spaniards. Players like that are ten a penny in la liga, and across the continent in general

True.

Rodgers obviously knows him well and knows exactly what he's getting for his money, albeit a lot of a player who was in the Championship just a few years ago.

Rodgers seemed to have great success at Swansea using his little book of clubs/people that he had connections to in order to strengthen their squad. His Chelsea links got him Sinclair, Borini and his Reading links helped him bring Sigurdsson in.

Worked a treat there, but there is something a bit bizarre about him doing it at Liverpool. Surely there is a bigger scope than him just going for the same players that he knows?

Fair enough Liverpool have been out of contention for top 4 the past few seasons, but they are still a big club. I wonder how the fans feel about this, and with rumours linking them with another Swansea player (Williams) to replace Agger.

It's Henderson all over again. Awful, awful signing for £15m. To think we got Cazorla for that.

 I think Allen has a lot more technical ability than Henderson.

I think he'll be a very good signing, unfortunately.

I totally agree. But if he'll be backup for Lucas then it might be a bit of a waste. I personally think Allen would play the ball winning zone technically better for attack and have more power going into the attacking half.

I can't see him partnering Lucas. It would be a double negative.

As pointed Michu for £2m is far better than £15m for Allen. Laudrup has done well here I think.

If they get Williams to replace Agger, Rodgers will be out sooner than Hodgson. I wonder when was the last time Liverpool actually had a decent transfer window.

Rafa got them Alonso, Mascherano and Torres etc...

Since then, probably Suarez has been decent, Agger if not injury prone and only Skretel has is value for the money...

Lucas needs a bit more time though his 2nd season signs were good while right now I can't think of any other good signings apart from Enrique.

Scholes and Giggs are in (more likely than not) their last season and can't play every game.

Cleverly is just coming back from Injury. Anderson is incredibly inconsistant and hasn't done anything yet to prove he has the mustard. Powell (no pl experience what so ever and wasn't even a midfielder at his old club) and Jones (extremely talented but Raw and primarily a defender) are kids.

Carrick is the only midfielder who would start week in week out.

Fair play. The way I see it, we've far more strength in depth. Carrick is better than Lucas, Scholes better than absolutely everyone even if it is for just 30 games a season, Cleverley is at a similar level to Allen and Anderson/Giggs are considerably better than Henderson/Adam. Kagawa's as much a midfielder as Gerrard and all, you could argue.

I think he'll be a good signing, he's clearly the guy that Rodgers knows well and sees as integral to the way he wants to reshape Liverpool in his image. Can't help but feel it's overpriced, but I'm sure Swansea are happy and Rodgers is happy to have him and Allen is happy to be there, so works out all round

what a strange way to welcome a new signing

You're Not Wanted, Andy.

15 million pound, plus an extra 2 million for Allen himself, on top of his 2.5 million pound a year wages.

Has anyone got that table comparing Joe Allen to other midfielders in europe ie Xavi, Iniesta etc.....?

I know I'm not on rawk but I thought I would oblige you by finding that very comparison for you. Unfortunately it's in Spanish.

Xavi e Iniesta son absolutamente brillantes. Joe Allen.... hahaha
