OK - The Miranda chat is warming up in Spain, so maybe it's time for his own thread.

For those who don't know him, he's 29, Brazilian, not in the WC squad. He's a centre-back in Atletico Madrid's very solid defence. Style-wise - he's more of a Vidic than a Rio.

Today's gossip from El Confidencial says we're negotiating. He has a €30m release clause but as he told Brazil's ESPN this week, "That's negotiable." He also says that he has offers, "in Spain and England".

Apparently the names Nani, Chicharito and Anderson  have been mentioned as options going the other way.

I would love to see this, Anderson in a Simeone team which never stops running :lol::lol:

I like Miranda but only if Hummels and Bentia aren't available.

Would be a great signing. Much rather him to Mangala. We need an experienced CB now that Vidic and Ferdinand are gone.

Yes to Miranda, no for that release fee...but if we can negotiate down to something more reasonable, maybe with a player going the other way - he would be a brilliant (albeit fairly short term) option.

€30 million isn't that much for a player like him and we could get 4 or 5 years out of him too. I'd offer them Hernandez and €20m, I think they'd accept that.

Are you absolutley out of your mind, Hernandez is worth more than €10m (£8m) and Miranda is not worth his buyout clause of €30m.

If they want Hernandez, add €5m and that should more than enough, if they don't want him, pay them around €23m max ! If they don't agree with that, just tell them to feck off and look elsewhere.

I agree that Hernandez should be worth more but they know he isn't happy with his game time here and that we don't particularly need him. No one is going to offer what he should really be worth because of this.

What centre back close to Miranda's level will we get for £25m? Maybe Garay, certainly not Benatia, Mangala or Hummels though.

I do think there's something to be said for the, "Don't buy Miranda - buy the player Atletico are going to replace him with," argument. Miranda only moved to Europe in 2011, so he's a late bloomer.

However we ended last season in 7th and with no more clue about whether Smalling, Jones, Evans could provide us with a pair of centre-backs than we had when the season started. Next season we're playing catch-up there as well and I can imagine Miranda working well with our other defenders.

I doubt Miranda's our absolute first choice, but I don't think he'd be a bad choice.

You kidding right?

Your the Miranda expert too yes?
I don't claim to be an expert here, but from all the time I've watched him at Atletico I've been very impressed. 29 isn't that old for a centre back, who can give at least another 4 years of service injuries permitting. He would immediately become our best defender if we signed him, although I don't think he's really on our radar. Can't see us spending 30 million euros.

If we really are going to spend 30M on a defender...why not just add 10M to that and make a bid for Hummels or Benetia who are better CB's IMO.

Exactly, 30 million euros for a guy 30 in September and not even bound to be a success?

Caulker at 7-10 million however, get what I'm saying?

4 young decent centre halves there.

We already had this story about Miranda a couple of weeks ago, I don't think there's anything in it

That doesn't mean we should practicaly give him away, it is not like his contract is running out or anything like that. He is still regarded as a good striker, he still has many years of topfootball infront of him, established Mexican international (who will likely showcase his ability in the worldcup), he should be worth atleast £12m-£15m, that is a bargain for someone like Herandez, but £8m is just ridiculous.

£25m won't get us any of the centrebacks you listed (Garay is off the market btw, Bayern have snapped him up, or are going to very soon). Hummels and Benatia are out of our league anyhow but £30m could land us Mangala or Laporte and both of them present long term value and are £5m more expensive. Miranda is 29, we'll get 2-3 good years out of him then he'll need to be replaced and we won't be able to get a penny back from our investment. £25m is ridiculously expensive for a 29 yeard old centreback, and lets be honest he is a good player, but not worldclass (he isn't even in the Brazil WC squad). £18-£20m is more than fair for somebody like him. There are other players out there than the ones you listed and Miranda, Adil Rami for example is available for less than £7m (Milan don't want to pay up since they are cash strapped and have already brought in Alex on a free transfer aswell). Valencia wants to sell him and he is a good player (best Milan defender according to the Milan fans I know off). Astori, Ranochia, Papadopoulos, Sokratis, Subotic, Höwedes, Shär are other good centrebacks that spring to mind that wouldn't cost us £25m.

I rate Caulker, did anyone on here rate the world class Miranda 12 months ago?

Or even know who he was?

Anyone who watches La Liga regular will(should) have known how good Miranda was 12 months ago because he's been one of the best centre backs in the league for longer than one season. Truly awful post.

No thanks, I'd rather have James Tomkins.
Wait, we're not making stupid statements?

We aren't a club that holds onto players against their will or stands in their way if they want to leave and we rarely get full value for our players when we do sell them. Because of those reasons I think the most we'll get for Hernandez is £10m unless we sell to someone like Monaco or PSG. I'd rather keep the extra £2m and use him to get a quality CB.

I don't think we need another young CB. I feel we need an experienced one to lead the ones we currently have. Evans is the most experienced but I'm not sure he's a leader. I haven't seen much of Rami but from what I've heard he is more Europa League level than Champions League level which is where we aspire to be. Subotic would be an excellent signing but I don't see him leaving Dortmund this summer.

We don't need 4 young decent centre halves, we need a couple of excellent centre halves and another couple of promising ones.

Caulker is no better than what we have. Miranda would be our best defender if bought in. See what we're saying?

I haven't seen a bad game from Miranda, and I've seen him play like fifteen or twenty times. His ability shouldn't be a reason to avoid him, he's been one of the best players in his position during last two years.
