Joško Gvardiol | signs for Peps CB collection

Tossing money is one thing.

What they have done which we never did in the Fergie era is buying the very best talent available, like Madrid did in those years.

Haaland on paper was cheap but it is not rocket science to go for him. Same for Gvardiol at a much higher price.

We know he wasn't though, he's getting paid an eye watering amount.

Wish we had owners who can spend millions with a drop of a hat

Another Tyrell Malacia or Luke Shaw. Probably not a good solution for us, so let him go to the Citizens. We need to focus on what is best for us and clearly he isn't that.

No point worrying about what City do really. They're already that good under Pep it's neither here nor there who they sign. Gvardiol means very little compared to where signing Haaland took them because that was a player that will decimate most of the league. They'll win nearly all their matches for the forseeable future and you can't really do that much better than win all your matches so in that respect it's hard to think too much about a signing like this that operates on the margins of making much difference.

How can City keeps spending 60, 80, 100, 120 millions on 1 player? It must some creative accounting with sponsorship. How can EPL and football governing body not investigate their financial? If found guilty, they should be ban immediately. Ridiculous that they can make marquee signing every season.

Its not really a conspiracy, They just sell really well.

22/23 - 180m
21/22 - 88m
20/21 - 97m

They will probably sell Cancelo, a CB and Bernado Silva this summer for almost 100m again.

Maguire is going to be fuming at that, since he will no longer claim to have that title. :p

Knowing City’s accounting policies, it’ll be actually down as £50m and on wages of £80k a week though.

We need not worry about what city do. They are the best and will be for years yet. We just need to make sure we do enough in this window so we can stay in the top 4.

I agree, think he is a fantastic left sided young centre back, we already have one with an excellent second option in Shaw, we dont have that on the right. Think there are a few really good young left sided centrre backs, Lukeba is another one who would be far cheaper, but we dont need that, so Gvardiol is irrelevant to us really....but what a signing he would be for CIty, that is still a bit sickening

If only we have listened to him and gave him more time.

Remember the open heart surgery comments. That was great.

He never seemed to get the respect of the players or have great managerial ability so would disagree with your first sentence.

Same token, I actually really liked him, not as a manager though. He spoke with a lot of intelligence and honesty. Most of his comments were spot on and still prevelant now. Think he said we needed 10signings to compete for the title and people scoffed....well we have made five since he left and have lost a couple fo players since......for me undoubtedly we still need 6/7 signings to compete and bet we only make four this summer max....not forgetting other sides strengthened in those two years so we still wont be close

He said most obvious things and people lauded him for it. All the while being absolutely disastrous manager.

Didnt dispute he was a disastrous maager, but no other managers have said whilst in charge the club is a million miles away and needs lots of signings. Yes maybe being a temporary manager had less to lose, but only Mourinho has spoken his mind at all and been honest whilst in charge

Wow, to actually be declared as a world record fee for City, makes you wonder how high it is actually is.
Either city are doubling down on their shenanigans, or they have the inside line that the charges will fail

Never really seen him play, but his defensive numbers on fbref for a CB are pretty awful. His tackles and aerial duels are in the 20th percentile!

Is he really anywhere close to the hype he's getting?

He is quick, strong and very good on the ball. As you say, he's crap in the air and can be overly aggressive and rash in the tackle (and consequently, a bit error prone). One of those defenders who you can tell really loves defending. Imagine Eric Bailly, if Bailly could pass the ball really well.

Sounds like Martinez can do everything that he can do - quick, strong, good on the ball, loves defending - without being rash and error prone. So why the record fee do you think?

Well Fbreb has Maguire in the same %tile as Varane and Militão, not dishing the site but sometimes you have to judge a player how he is to the eye.

This one stings, don't get too bothered by City's business as it's so easy for them to just spaff money everywhere and on anyone constantly, but to see them sign this fella is just beyond annoying.

With all due respect, you guys have spent the most over the last decade - even more than Man City. Your owners have spent, but most of those players haven't worked out. That's the issue.

Issue one: spent our money on shite.

Issue two: spent more due to payments we know about that are legal.

That won't be true. Unless you are criminally naive.

Not to say United but haven't wazzed all manner of foolish money away, but everyone knows United haven't outspent City.

Oh and 115 FA charges is the issue too.

FA are getting payed by City to just keep quiet.
