Jhon Durán | Deal agreed with Al Nassr for €77m

I see what the footy gods are doing for other clubs. Please lord someone offer €100m for Rashford and Casa.

He really isn't that good,

bet Villa can't quite believe they are getting circa £70m for him!

A sad indictment of modern football. I guess we'll never know if he could have joined the elite pack and been a 20 league goal a season CF as his development is going to heavily stagnant and he'll never reach his full potential as a player now.

This is kind of my view. In some ways I don't blame any party involved, except Saudi. He was showing promising signs, but his potential wasn't a guarantee he was going to kick on and become an amazing striker. He certainly won't now.

Ngl sad to see him go, was so sure he would be lighting it up in Europe for the next few years, amazing talent.

One positive is that he has a lot of time on his side. Make a good pay day and come back to Europe in 5 years, would probably earn around 10 times more as opposed to staying. The main question though, will CR7 want to share his goals with him?
His level and development is likely to diminish considerably in a terrible league that neither pushes/forces him to develop nor has the coaching to optimise him. Will be some against the odds thing for him to enter his supposed prime years without being severely compromised as a player, should he see out the entirety of the contract.

This is just a wild transfer. Has he had a falling out at Villa or something? He’s been so important for them.

Emery never been fully convinced, think he's still started less than ten prem games in his time here and don't think he was impressed by the aftermath of the Newcastle red card.

Insanity, doesn't seem like the Saudis will be allowing the transfer market to deflate that much.

This is bananas, he's basically an impact sub isn't he? It's still sad to see a 21 year old throw their career away to feck off to that cesspit, though.

Good for Villa but a 21 yo player going to Saudi, I mean I cannot blame him wanting the money but he obviously has little ambition

He’s got this knack of blockbuster strikes out of nowhere, but 29 y/o Watkins is the better player and Villa do right in prioritising keeping him.

I think this lad has something. Villa should have taken the cash for Watkins at 29 and kept this lad. His pace and how hard he hits the ball make him so dangerous and some os his stats are elite level (albeit with a small sample size)

This feels like a waste, but it’s hard to turn down that much money and the opportunity to get verbally abused by an all time great on a weekly basis for his own failings

All power to him!

‘trust me, when he’s my age he certainly won’t have any regrets about opting for that kind of money’

A valid point. And he’s still young enough to earn some coin over there and head back to a decent European team

Yeah I agree. There have been some cases of players coming back, the latest I remember was Carrasco coming back from China, he was a more developed before he left though.

On the one hand playing with Ronaldo might be a huge appeal for him as he's of the age where he would've been seeing him at his peak growing up. But surely someone reasoned with him that Ronaldo has never been the most collaborative of players, he's now a shadow of his former self, and is on a mission to statpad until he retires, who knows when.

I find it crazy how a 21 year old who is being touted by decent clubs wants to go to Saudi this early on.

Shows the mentality where its money over self belief, should avoid any of those players, mercenaries.

But it’s incredibly easy to say what you’d do and judge people based on a situation you’d never realistically be in.

Anyone who says they’d refuse quintupling or sextupling their wage for a less demanding version of their current job is a liar (not at least to themselves).

Very surprised Villa are letting him go, especially if Watkins is arsenal bound.

No brainer if they’re getting 70mil euros for him. That’s a ridiculous price for a player that hasn’t done a whole lot in his career yet, and probably won’t now.

I think the likelihood is that he’s had a bit of a purple patch this season but both he and Villa know that’s probably not his real level and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make serious bank.

Maybe his ambition is to make as much money as possible. I wouldn't mind a career like Oscar's. Probably take it over playing for a decent club in England.

100% I get that. Its easier to judge on the outside but giving my opinion from the outside I see it as:

- If you are good enough and believe in yourself that you could be really good, you can end up on 150/200k a week which is really good anyway.

if you feel as @Pexbo says, he has hit a good purple patch, but the player and club know that the reality is the player is not that good, then its a good option.

I am just saying this because, Chelsea and Arsenal were interested in him, so you'd think he would get a decent contract at those clubs playing at a high level.

I have nothing to back this up with, its an educated guess, but i have a feeling that the younger prime players going to Saudi are being advised by their agents to treat them as essentially a win-win loan deal.

In an age where striking talent is becoming harder to come by the chances that he is still there by the end of his contract will be nil.

I think its an opportunity for players at non prestige clubs who think they can be at a top team to essentially take a gap year on huge huge money knowing so long as they dont stink it up european clubs will be back in for them in a year and i dont think the saudi clubs would put up a massive fight to keep them as it would harm the pipeline.

I can see Ivan Tony back in the premier league in the summer for example, he just couldnt swing the move he wanted, so he took a paid holiday.

Has his wage been reported?

The only reports I've seen say £300k p/w, not sure how true that is but certainly believable.

If that is the case - taking into account income tax and assuming he's now on about £100k p/w at Villa (good chance it's actually less) - he'll be about £13m a year better off.

Hard to blame him personally, just wish we weren't losing one of the most promising CF prospects in European football from the side of the game that people actually follow and care about.

He is Colombian. I don't think he has any European roots. He might go to the MLS as well.

He'd be a multi millionaire if he signed a new contract at Villa or moved to another club in Europe.

Let's not pretend players he's moving to Saudi for any reason other than greed. His family are set regardless.

Oh duffer, not you too!? :(

Not to be that guy, but being that guy anyway, is this just because Villa backed City in the APT issue last year?

Oh duffer, not you too!? :(

It's just not a valid argument to me. He either stays in the prem and is multi millionaire or moves to Saudi and is a multi millionaire.

I'm not knocking the guy for being greedy but let's not pretend he's doing it so he can put a roof over his kid's head, he just wants even more money.

I guess if all he wants out of the game is money, fair enough. He can go and become the new Gabri Veiga.

Football is a job like any other. Sure, trophies are cool and all - but if ever in a similar position - I’d always advise people to take the money and leave all that romantic stuff to randoms on internet forums.

It’s not as if trophies are guaranteed anyway - and all it takes is a bad run of form, or a mistimed tackle/not setting his feet properly on a run and his career could be over. Each time players step on the pitch their careers is on the line.

Take the money.

This is an absolutely ideal situation for Villa. They can't keep him happy and will make an absolute mint on him selling him at the perfect time to maximize fee and help with PSR, can reinvest into the squad. Now the last part is always a gamble, but they'll be confident they can unearth another Duran.
