Jhon Durán | Deal agreed with Al Nassr for €77m

They’d be stupid to sell him to a rival and at this stage of the season, with less than a week to replace him. If Arsenal are serious they should go back in for him in the summer
Yeah it’s a bad time. Why they didn’t do this last summer I don’t know.

Surely he's not going to the Saudi league at 21 and arguably the best up-and-coming striker in the PL?

Villa rejected it as they're unhappy with the timing of the bid (CL game tonight etc) so you'd think they'd perhaps accept 2nd offer over next few days? Why would they sell both of their strikers and in January though? Duran going to Saudi at 21 years old would be a shame...

Money can be the ambition. There are plenty of players for whom football is literally just a job and nothing they have any love for.
What I actually meant was at a young age everyone dreams of the premier league. No one grows up wanting to be a professional footballer to play in the Saudi league  Also he gets to compete in the CL and challenging for top 4 every year with Villa.

Another player that's like 20 went to Saudi League yesterday I think. I guess they'll be mega rich by the year of 25 but it's not like they'd struggle in European teams either.

Why can’t Saudi clubs ever sign our players for such ludicrous prices.

Just bang us a cool 70 million for Rashford or something.

Selling him seems very shortsighted from Villa. Are they skint?
its a pity to be honest to see a lad like this leave the EPL, but then again players at that age despite looking great can drop off badly or have some huge blowout, ref Greenwood , Rashford, Iheanacho. I guess every player has their price.

Also who is PSR really benefiting now, Man City ?

To his mind, making serious guaranteed bank right now, for 5 years or whatever might supersede the desire to make a name for himself and rise up the ranks to that kind of money one day, if he’s lucky. Making the most money possible in the shortest period of time can easily be a bigger carrot than prestige or legacy.

The Saudi’s can turn any sport upside down with the amount of money they put down, and I think they give anyone they are willing to pay exorbitant amount of money to a serious question of the career path they want to pursue.

Good. Villa can use the 70 m to buy rashford
If no Saudi club want him and they can actually afford him and his wages then no ambitious English team will want him either. The teams that do want him can’t get him because of his wages. If I was him and wanted a new challenge I’d just lower my wage and get game time. No like he’s going to be skint.

isn’t he currently on the bench for Villa as we speak against Celtic?

First time I can remember a story breaking while the player is in a match

Player who could've gone to a big club as a main striker for a long time just taking the money in Saudi instead... Doesn't sit well

He’s likely to earn an astronomical amount of money that will set his family for generations. You can’t talk about ambition all you want but my ambition in life would be to provide as much security for my family as possible.

I guess if all he wants out of the game is money, fair enough. He can go and become the new Gabri Veiga.

Saudi clubs are obviously wanting to shift away from being a retirement league for past it stars and they are correctly assuming that young players who have not yet made a ton of money will get their heads turned. If you have 10 years ahead of you then you might well feel like 3 or 4 years in Saudi raking in massive piles of cash is worth it because you can still return to European football and join a big club and play for another 6 or 7 seasons with your financial future already secured.

I don't really care what choices people make about their own career.

But he's a very young hot property striker in this current market in the Premier League. He could easily get a contract for 100k per week for 6 years if he wanted. In a league that matters.

If he can't look after his family with that money and some sensible low risk investments then I'd suggest I maybe has a spending problem.

But as I said, his career.

I don't blame Duran for chasing the bag. There is no guarantee he will get an offer like this again even at his young age. His form could drop or he could pick up an injury.

Yeah, they definitely look to be playing a longer game than the Chinese were. They obviously still have ambitions to lure enough talent over to have the league be considered up there with the best.

Wouldn't surprise me if they bung the right people at UEFA and have their clubs admitted to the CL at some point in the next few years.

But it’s incredibly easy to say what you’d do and judge people based on a situation you’d never realistically be in.

Anyone who says they’d refuse quintupling or sextupling their wage for a less demanding version of their current job is a liar.

I mean TBF I could probably double my salary in my current job in Dubai and pay no tax. I just don't want to live there.

But yeah as I said, I don't particularly care what he does. I just think it's best if to be balanced and point out that the option isn't "generational financial security in Saudi or not" he can secure that in a number of leagues.

How can we judge, we have our lot here that clearly only come for the money and basically retire until the contract is over....
