Jhon Durán | Deal agreed with Al Nassr for €77m

Duran going to Saudi is bad news for Arteta. No way Villa sell both CF in the last week of Jan.

C’mon Arsenal…you know you want Rashy instead!

can't believe he'd choose money before all those trophies he would win with Villa or West Ham.

Called him Villa's Asprilla before, stand by that.

Came in, did ok, scored a few goals and fecked off, never to be heard from again.

Can't really criticise someone who isn't from a first world country securing their families' long term financial future. Like any player his career could be over in a matter of years if he has bad luck with injuries.

A shame, maybe for a couple of reasons. A talent his age shouldn’t be spending his prime years in Saudi, I genuinely thought he was going to end up at Real. But secondly, this has led to Al-Nassr pulling out of the Boniface deal, and I was hoping Leverkusen got big money for him and came shopping at Old Trafford for a striker named Rasmus.

Earned about 7 mil at Villa, his family's long term future should already be secured? Couple of hundred thousand per year just by withdrawing the interest there!

What a strange, strange, move.

Anytime I see highlights from the Saudi league, accidentally, usually shared by some Ronaldo worshipper, it looks like the stands are almost completely empty and all the players are walking around. Zirkzee looks like a pace merchant in comparison.

As if that is not pathetic enough, all the teams are either directly or indirectly owned by the ruling family. It’s all make believe competition.

Or maybe the new lot of footballers just don't care as much about arbitrarily decided things like 'big clubs' and 'big trophies'? It's a job to them, and for someone like Duran, it seems like a good way to cash in, so fair play to him.

Him after one season:
"What is happening to me?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is my friend when I need you most?
(Good ebening)

But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive"

I wanted to say that that price sounds suspicious. But then I remember our own that cost almost the same, with a lot worse top flight football experience.

I don't really care what choices people make about their own career.

But he's a very young hot property striker in this current market in the Premier League. He could easily get a contract for 100k per week for 6 years if he wanted. In a league that matters.

If he can't look after his family with that money and some sensible low risk investments then I'd suggest I maybe has a spending problem.

But as I said, his career.
Looking at it objectively:

300k/week vs 100k/week
0% tax vs 45% tax

And Birmingham is hardly an appealing place to live.

There is no guarantee he gets a big move somewhere else, not many teams would pay 75m for him. And no guarantee Villa accept that same figure from a competitor like Arsenal or Chelsea.

If Durán wants to make as much money as he can while he can that's his perogative, but it's understandable that people might be put out if a potentially top level players vanishes to a far from top level league. It's not likely to lead to the most entertaining outcome in a game that is is, at the end of the day, meant to be entertaining. I'm sure it's entertaining for fans in Saudi Arabia though, so swings and roundabouts I guess.

What fans? I’d encourage you to look up highlights and see the empty stadiums.

As for what they watch on their TVs, he’s more likely to be watched by Saudis if he played for Real Madrid or Barcelona than playing in Saudi Arabia.

Meh honestly not seeing Rashford too badly these days. Just as it would be for me, football would be a career more than an entertainment I enjoy.

Saudi clubs are obviously wanting to shift away from being a retirement league for past it stars and they are correctly assuming that young players who have not yet made a ton of money will get their heads turned. If you have 10 years ahead of you then you might well feel like 3 or 4 years in Saudi raking in massive piles of cash is worth it because you can still return to European football and join a big club and play for another 6 or 7 seasons with your financial future already secured.
Agreed.

And they already made a name for themselves when they acquired some of the biggest football stars in CR7, Benzena, Neymar, Kante and so, hence now there is no need to go for older players, young and hungry stars is what will make their league stronger and better if that's their aim.

Why is everyone just assuming this move is entirely down to him? What of Aston Villa's role in all this? Clubs have nearly all the control in transfer situations and do not care one jot about the future of the player. They got a bid from West Ham which they rejected. They sell to the highest bidder no matter where the bidder comes from. If a club in China offered €90m, Villa would have sold to that club instead.

He’s not a slave. He has to agree to sign a contract. They can’t force to him to go to a specific club.

If it wasn’t the case, Rashford would be in Saudi already against his will.

Do you think that if Villa accepted the West Ham bid, he wouldn't have moved? Villa as with all clubs, care first and foremost about the finances before the players. It views players as little more than assets and liabilities. Duran would have accepted to move to West Ham or Arsenal if that option was available.

So why couldn’t we get rid of Rashford to Saudi then? Because you know sure as hell we’d have gotten rid

Ngl sad to see him go, was so sure he would be lighting it up in Europe for the next few years, amazing talent.

One positive is that he has a lot of time on his side. Make a good pay day and come back to Europe in 5 years, would probably earn around 10 times more as opposed to staying. The main question though, will CR7 want to share his goals with him?

Right, but that isn't true when English people say it about the prem?
No it is the truth and even a lot of players who come over from different countries and sign for English teams say it. No one ever signs for a Spanish or Italian team and says it’s the best league in the world.

This. I don't know how it is across the world but I coach kids who dream of making lots of money more than playing for a particular club.

This is just a wild transfer. Has he had a falling out at Villa or something? He’s been so important for them.

Does anyone know why a transfer between an English club and Saudi club is being reported in Euros?
