More than just about any other United player Lingard blows hot and cold; his "hot" is luke warm at best and Ive seen less cold corpses. He was never good enough for United and it seems was only kept on because hes Rashfords mate. We have too many hangers on, get rid of them all.
 
If Lingard signs a new contract I am going to be furious with Ole and I will be 100% Oleout.
 
If this isn't some cunning ploy to panic other clubs into trying to buy him then Lingard is staying.

Lingard is clearly desperate to stay at United which is admirable and I think he could be a decent squad option for us. I certainly won't be spitting my dummy out if he ends up signing an extension.

I dont know him so like or dislike doesnt come into it as far as Im concerned; the final analysis is simply "is he good enough to play for Manchester United?" and the answer is hes not.

My take of the situation (some of it is speculative just as much those that want him to stay are speculative), he's done this on purpose.

He knows Ole has some kind of BS sentiment to him and that the club doesn't like losing value on assets, hence he put on a caveat of "I'm not accepting a move to West Ham and play me or I won't sign a new contract"

So I've got no sympathy for his BS post on social media, he wanted those minutes, he's a seasoned professional, he's forcing Ole's hand, he's playing on Ole's sentiment, he knows exactly what he's doing, so none of this BS social media grandstanding, you wanted the job, get it done (aside from his mistake, there was no point to any of his 23 minutes vs YB, he was quite poor all of those minutes)

The fact is he is not and never has been good enough (and has made every excuse to explain his poor 'form'). I want him gone any which way possible, so will gladly accept him not accepting a contract and moving on a free

I reject this premise.

I think you're right he'll get pelters all season, regardless. It's probably just best that he runs his contract down and I don't blame him for that, he may have been a misguided thinking he can get into the first XI, but we should have made that abundantly clear.

I dislike him as a player and I never want to see him play for United. So my preference would be him running down his contract and leaving because the club seems unable or unwilling to sell him.

Ole's quotes about him yesterday are deeply worrying though. It seems that his latest purple patch at West Ham genuinely convinced Solskjaer that the evidence of the previous six years is somehow misleading.

I mean the guy literally has a brand - clothes line, in his own name, and a hand gesture celebration for said brand. To even think to that requires a certain amount of ego. Which people would forgive, if he was in any way the level required for where we are aspiring to be. So no, it really is not hyperbole.
 
I remember getting pelted on here years ago for saying that if Lingard wasn’t from Manchester/academy graduate then he’d have been sold years ago but it’s so obviously true. Baffles me that we want him to stay.

It’s hyperbole if you think that’s why a professional footballer, born in Manchester, at United since he was 7, a United fan through and through only wants to stay at United because of his clothing line. Hmmm I wonder what other more logical reasons there may be?
 
I have no issue with a player trying to stick it out at his boyhood club and I sort of get the club’s reasons behind trying to…..[shudders] preserve his value, given that he was performing well at a high level last season but what troubles me more is the club creating this environment where highly paid players, with a long history of underperformance - whatever the reasons for that - at the club, are allowed to nest.

I suspect Lingard will sign a new deal and then drift out of the first team reckoning within a season or so. We already know almost everything we need to know about him. At times he’s a good squad player, at others he’s well off the level and I don’t see that changing. Rewarding him with a contract that may well make selling him near to impossible is more of the same stuff that we’ve done with the likes of Darmian, Jones, Bailly, even Matic when he got that new deal after a month or two of good form. And we keep getting burned.
 
Most telling contibution Lingard currently can make at United is by running his contract down because it seems once again United are struggling to cut the cord.
 
Lindgard should leave, better for him and club, and I tire of these circumstances really. We all have a bit of a soft spot for him, but we need to move on, that's what big, well-resourced clubs do.

I see the whole Lindgard, and Pogba for that matter, contract debates to be about money.. get them into some sort of contract and at least get some money back when sold. Letting Pogba and Lindgard both go for nowt' is simply, corporate madness.

I dont, he consistently underwhelms on the pitch, and I find his eternal peter pan manchild schtick grating as hell. You are 28 Jesse, time to grow the feck up a bit.
 
According to Moyes, Ole told him early in the summer that he wanted to keep Lingard at the club. So it sounds like it was Ole's decision, not Lingard's.

Thanks. But I don’t get that at all, he has had plenty of chances here and proven he isn’t good enough for we’re we want too be, he was performing great at West Ham and was wanted there. Plus it would of got us a bit of money.
It was a win-win for everyone if we sold him
 
Notwithstanding lingard's clothing line, he isn't skilled enough to be our kit man.

Sneak him onto the west ham bus after the game and run in the opposite direction.

Yeah it’s a really strange decision for me. Far down the pecking order (one would hope) and in the final year of his contract. That money could’ve been put toward central midfield.

Tough to believe it. Lingard must definitely have been on the transfer list of the club. What will Ole say to refute it - that Lingard was for sale and Moyes never coughed up the money so we are stuck with him!

If it is true, think Ole needs to be sacked on this alone. We can blame the club all we want but if the manager won't sell a player, then not much the club can do without upsetting the manager. Don't really understand why Lingard has been kept unless the thought is to use him when Pogba leaves on a free, which in itself is a horrible thought.
 
Nothing against Lingard, felt he's gotten a bit too much flack at times but at the end of the day he's not stepping up another level here and should move on. He's well within his right to run out his contract but we would be sheer idiots to extend it. Not on the Ole-out train but it should damned near be a sackable offense if it happened.

No idea why he didn't stay at West Ham, looked like everything was going well there for him.

Moyes claims Ole blocked the move because he saw his future at United. Pretty damning if true.

Hopefully Jesse doesn't oblige our stupidity and runs it down. For his sake as well as ours.

If that is the case then I would ask Moyes how much were they prepared to pay for Him?.....tried to get him on the cheap I would imagine.

Would be really ironic if he runs his contract down and leaves for regular first team football after all the abuse he’s received for “stealing a living” and whatnot.

And no it would not be a good look for the club at all as you honestly couldn’t hold it against Lingard at this point in his career.

It'll be a better look leaving him to run it down and leave on a free than offering him more and more money until he signs an extension.

One offer and it getting "rejected" and him leaking it to the press made the club and Ole look idiotic enough. Being held to ransom publicly by a player nobody other than Ole rates is just embarrassing.

1) Academy graduate - rising star.
2) First team - scored a couple of important goals - minor fan hero.
3) First team - doing little.
4) First team - teamed with Pereira - stunk like rotten cabbage.
5) Wilderness - collecting pay-check.
6) West Ham - glimmer of hope - beginner's luck!
7) Back to M16 - see #3 - rinse and repeat

Why would Moyes lie? It's not the first time. We did it for Matic and Mata. Hell even Lukaku and Young said Ole wanted them to stay
 
Ole will keep using him, rotating him with Sancho and Greenwood on the right wing. Sancho looks like he needs time to settle in and adapt to speed of PL.

Calm down. It was just a throw away remark.

Also, the manager didn't need him last season. He even loaned him out. Now we have strengthened ourselves in the position Lingard plays and he is not better than any of the players who will be playing there. How on Earth then is he suddenly non-transferable if what Moyes is saying is true. This isn't a hoarding house. If we aren't going to use players, why not sell them and use the funds for positions we need.

Moreover we have the likes of Amad and Pellestri waiting in the wings. How is Ole going to integrate them and then keep fringe players like Lingard? This is just either Moyes not being completely honest or Ole keeping a hold of players we won't really need with the quality in attack we already have.

We have Cavani, Ronaldo, Sancho, Greenwood, Rashford, Martial, Bruno, Pogba who are first team players (along with Amad and Pellestri in the wings). I really don't see the need for a fringe player like Lingard especially if he is out of contract next season. Might as well use him to get some money in for a CM we desperately need.
 
It seems to me like it was a question of pride for Ole.

He must have looked at David Moyes getting Lingard to perform at that level last season and thought he could easily do the same.
