Makes no sense. Did he think he would roll up for pre-season and suddenly become a starter. Surely the signing of Sancho and Ronaldo will further limit his opportunities.

Especially with all these kids coming through added to the fact that the likes of Andreas are still to come back from loan. We should be letting Jesse, Jones, Axel/Bailly, Matic and Juan go.

Then a couple of days later he rejects a contract because of playing time.

See I can’t understand posts like this it benefits no one for JLingz to sit on the bench and pick up a paycheque not even him, he’s going to cost the club however amount of millions in wages plus whatever selling on fee he has and adds another year to his own stumbling career, totally pointless. It looks to me Jesse only is interested in a big signing on fee to end his career.

On a free Jesse will have more than just West Ham after him. He'll have teams in England, Italy and Spain after him and he'll do well wherever he goes, unfortunately the club should have at least got 20 m for him. If we sold Jesse we could've got a DM this summer. I don't blame Ole for this tbh as this seems to be a problem regardless of manager. Whoever is in charge of renewals/selling players needs to be sacked asap.
 
So many posters throwing their toys out of the pram saying we should have sold him, he didn’t want to go to West Ham, you can’t sell a player if they refuse a move.

If he wants to be a Cnut and leave on a free then let him. In no world should Ole be guaranteeing Lingard playing time, he’s consistently anonymous for United. Save his wages and put it towards a Pogba renewal.

Even if that was the case, so be it. It's our club that decides to hand out contracts like absolute madmen so why shouldn't he fulfil his. I'm pretty indifferent about it. The only thing that would annoy me a tad is if we renew him again.
 
We shouldn't have been giving Jesse hope unfortunately.

We keep saying the door is open for him and he can fight for his place. In reality we should have said you'll be playing very little and it's best to move on.

I don't blame Jesse for wanting to stay and try to give it another go, but the club should really be stronger in these situations. Now he's stuck in limbo, the club won't be able to sell him for a good fee like they could have this summer.

Yes, he turned down West Ham, West Ham isn't the only club in the world. It's not just this instance it's a problem we've had for a long time and there have been no signs of that changing. If Jesse played for Chelsea he'd be on his way to Roma for 35 Million. We're gonna let him go for free. If people don't see this as a recurring problem idk what to say. It's not sustainable to let our players go for free and expect the club to spend 100+ mill every summer. Chelsea just broke their transfer fee record but still ended up with a negative net spend and people will say Chelsea are ruining football.

I’d be very surprised if there wasn’t some kind of pre agreement with West Ham and he’ll sign at the end of the season. If I’m correct he’s a massive twat..
 
Makes perfect sense.

He WANTS to play for United. He will see how it goes this season. I don’t see it going well for him but that’s his choice.

There’ll be more clubs interested than just West Ham when he’s on free too next summer.

That’s nonsense he’s trying to milk whatever out of his brand as possible. If he was serious about football he’d be trying for a move years ago but no he happy to sit on the bench at United he’s even done it this summer again, what are you watching exactly?

Chelsea literally had a hard time getting rid of Zouma because he only wanted to stay in London. Players can only be sold to where they want to go.

If he knows it’s his last season why didn’t he leave in the summer?

He’s happy to get 100k a week and a signing on fee that’s why.

The difference is that I think Pogba wants to go to either Real or PSG for a massive signing bonus next summer. With Martial's future also uncertain and VDB continuing to underwhelm, Lingard is probably staying because he wants to prove he's good enough to be second choice at LW or 10.

Of the four players whose futures are up in the air (Pogba, Lingard, Martial and VDB), Lingard is the only one who's going to be willing to sit on the bench every week. Any squad that wants to win things needs that type of player in their ranks.

Of course we could not have spent another 75 million. But if we had sold VdB (who I rate, but Ole does not) as well that brings us down to 50m. Perhaps sell Fred for 25m and that brings us down to a new net 25m spend to bring in Rice (overrated IMO, but is unquestionably is an upgrade on Fred) which would have been worth it to address the hole at CDM.

We’re suddenly in a position where we can think about winning trophies now. Sales of Jesse, Donny and Fred — none of whom will be instrumental to whatever success might have this season — would have allowed us to bring in Rice to complete the first team.

See I have nothing wrong with this if that’s the case we need to have squad players as well as first teamers but to not sign a contract just doesn’t add up..
 
Probably wants to keep his 100k a week. If a club has to pay 25m they probably offer him less wages to what most of their squad is on. Maybe West Ham's contract was 60k a week.

I doubt he's going to get some big signing on fee but it will give the clubs interested in Jesse room to pay him around 100k if they get him on a free.

United though in hindsight should've lowered the price to either allow better contracts or other clubs to come in if Jesse simply doesn't want West Ham. I suspect Jesse just wants his wages to continue at a new club.

I had to laugh when I saw the report that Lingard had rejected a contract, he has played United like a fiddle.

So to reject a contract with the reason you want first team football is laughable when you had the chance to move for it. Can't stand players like this, money is important than playing time. The fact he is picked by England when not starting games for his club and someone like Greenwood isn't is more of a joke.

But he has rejected the contract offer saying he wants first team football so the above is not the case.

Except he doesn't seem to be fine with sitting on the bench every week, at least according to recent reports?

If that is the case and OGS doesn't have much of a use for him this season, I would've sold him. His value after his impressive stint at West Ham was probably as high as it has ever been.

I don't blame him for doing that, he must have seen what they did to Bailly and thought "I'm not getting into that situation". For Utd to offer him a new contract assurances must have been given to him that he will be part of the first team.
 
Strange we even offered him a contract since he's been barely used last season and I dont think he'll be used more this season given how many options upfront we have now. I really dont understand whats the purpose anymore. He isnt playing, isnt good enough, yet we insist on keeping him.
