I like Jesse but should drop to the bench today.
It's like colourblind people telling everyone else that colours don't exist. If you're not scoring boat loads of goals week in week out the CAF think that you're shi*e - The CAF doesn't understand the aspects of football that aren't always apparent.
Carrick is a fine example, players loved playing alongside him yet fans always criticised him "he always passes sideways" -
Yeah comparing Carrick's contribution to somebody like Lingard you my friend certainly understand the nuanced aspects of football for sure.
I was comparing the fact that just because he's not fancy and lights up the pitch doesn't mean that he's not an integral part of the team. Every single manager including SAF has seen something in him. So they're seeing something the majority of us don't.
The reddit post goes into detail as to why this may be the case. But because this is too detailed and analytical for the CAF, the CAF describes it as a 'Lingard Love In'
This forum is a place that thinks Pogba is cr*p and should be dropped and didn't contribute much, despite being top assist and top goal scorer last season. Yet because he's flash and has a fancy haircut, that means he IsNt fOcUseD oN HiS FoOtBaLl.
Dan James two weeks ago was being praised as the next best thing. His second game. SECOND GAME for United, he started and then people were saying he'll never make it here and that he'll be a squad player.
So to use your phrase yes the CAF clearly seems like the place that wholly "understands the nuanced aspects of football for sure"

Thank you for telling me the ins and out of pro football. As you say, us armchair fans are the worst.Well, with all due respect, that is a stupid way to judge a player.
Any one player - no matter who they are - only has the ball at his feet for 2% of any game.
Fans judging what a player does based solely on that 2% alone are missing the essence of team sport.. especially this sport.
Why on earth would you only base a player's performance on 2%? When in fact the other 98% is way more important. Discipline (and I mean this in terms of carrying out manager's orders) is the most important attribute any player at the top level can have. Yes, some of those orders come in the realm of that 2%, such as decision-making on the ball, but most managerial orders and indeed most discipline is done in the other 98%.
The unfortunate thing is; most fans don't pay one iota of attention to the 98%; they are only interested in what a player does during the 2% of the time he has the ball at his feet.
When fans were playing junior football as a kid, their coaches were only concerned about how they kicked a ball; could they pass the ball, shoot....
And now they can only relate their football knowledge to what they learned when they were 12-years old. They only judge players on what they do on the ball.
But that is not how professional football works.
Wanna know why Jesse Lingard is highly regarded by the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Solskjaer and Gareth Southgate? Because his 98% is top-quality! They know they can trust him implicitly to carry out their orders. And wanna know why he is disregarded by football fans on internet forums? It's simple: they don't understand the 98%.
Yeah no. You're not fooling anyone with this one. Off ball movement isnt sufficient as a lone skill to have. Even in his new #10 role he isn't doing it right. A number 10's off the ball movement should actually be geared to getting back on the ball and making oneself available as an outlet to the adjoining midfielders and attackers. Not running in the other direction from where the ball isIf you're not scoring boat loads of goals week in week out the CAF think that you're shi*e - The CAF doesn't understand the aspects of football that aren't always apparent.

Anderson was the European Golden shoe and was a top talent in his age group. Career didn't turn out as hoped, but at one point, did have great potential. We had the same shit with Anderson.
Hes got great potential... etc etc blah blah....
He was limited and had the odd good game.
Lingaard is the same as a player. But 1000% more annoying
Thank you for telling me the ins and out of pro football. As you say, us armchair fans are the worst.
Yet, only inside those 2% has there ever been scored a goal.Well, with all due respect, that is a stupid way to judge a player.

What an absolute crap. Dragging down Michael Carrick, one of the most cultured midfielders England has produced in the past 20 years in order to defend Jesse Lingard who is a worse player than Andros fecking Townsend. Yeah people don't understand football clearly and you are the one seeing the proper picture. If you're not scoring boat loads of goals week in week out the CAF think that you're shi*e - The CAF doesn't understand the aspects of football that aren't always apparent.

Played well against Chelsea and badly against Wolves.
Caf melts down
I would suggest that Jesses a measuring stick to see if fans truly understand the game. If you think Jesse is a bad player, you don't get it. If you see the performance in Lingard (like Fergie, LvG, Jose, Ole, Southgate do.. then you understand the nuances of football and don't just judge a player on the 2% of the time they are in possession).
So people who share your opinion, understand the game, and those who don't, don't. The closer someone is to your opinion on Lingard, the better they understand the gamePlayed really well against Chelsea and was arguably our best player in the first half against Wolves... He didn't let them settle at all and his pressing and disruption of their attempt at possession was the key reason we were so dominant in that first half.
But Wolves changed it up, Lingard's pressing became less advantageous to us and he had a poor first 20-mins of the second half, like most of our players did.
It's understandable why fans stick it to Lingard... most of his work is done off the ball and some fans can't, for the life of them, give credit for anything done off the ball. They are only interested in what happens to a player when the ball is at their feet (which is only 2% of any player's performance). Jesse is a disruptor.. a chaser - which is a key attribute required in Ole's gameplan. In fact, Lingard does this better than anyone in our squad. Yet, fans can't see it. Some fans can't see it; I should say. They can't even see that Ferguson played Lingard, LvG played Lingard, Mourinho played Lingard, Ole, Southgate - they all play Lingard because he is vitally important to them. Yet blokes with anonymous usernames on football forums can't see it.

How can anyone with a fine set of eyes watch that "performance" and say he played well enough is the issue here. Anything said after that is a pointless waste of time.No. He played well enough.
And your issue?
Yeah something like that Mick. And you are a Jesse Lingard hater in his eyes most probablySo people who share your opinion, understand the game, and those who don't, don't. The closer someone is to your opinion on Lingard, the better they understand the game
What is this mess?

Sorry but I really hate posts like this, just more of the "anyone who doesn't agree with me is just a caftard whose only understanding of football comes from FIFA'. Attack the post, not the poster.
Agreed.
If football has progressed to the point that modern tactics relies on a player with no end product in the final third to be an attacker then the sport is doomed.
How was he goofing around? He was goofing around as Lindelöf was being interviewed by mutv just now. I wish he'd take his job seriously. If he had scored a hat-trick recently then I'd forgive the court jester routine.
shouting at Lindelöf to put him off, this is at Carrington presumably yesterdayHow was he goofing around?
