Jesse Lingard | Seoul singer

The hatred of Lingard in some quarters is a very clear by-product of fan frustration at our expectations failing to meet reality in the aftermath of Fergie’s departure. In literally every other era - including the doldrums before SAF - he’d have been a cult hero at worst.

Pretty much any academy product who scores an FA Cup winning goal in extra time deserves to be tbh… at any club. But he just happened to exists at the absolute worst time for our fanbase tolerating his kind of personality.

I don't think it is his personality on its own that garners the vitriol, it is that and DEFINITELY something else.

It's like McTominay situation, the longer you don't see some players play the better you think they are.

Lingard was underrated and Antony is being overrated. The main value that both provide is workrate, movement and positional discipline. Neither is/was great, though Lingard reached higher highs in terms in terms of end product. It's up to Antony to match or surpass him. He hasn't so far.

. Id wager less than 10% of our fanbase rates Antony.....

He has potential, but he's easily the weakest member of first choice front 6 (if we assume that Rashford is going to be a CF for the foreseeable).
for now True. Don't get me wrong thougg. Im amongst the few who actually rates him and sees what he could potentially become as ETH polishes him. I've just seen many a UTD fan moan about him. On and especially offline

Interesting stats, I'm a fan of Antony and maintain he'll come good for us, i'm sure we'll see an increase in his outputs but seeing Lingards outputs are interesting in comparison.

But loads of players have left the club under a much darker cloud than he did and are revered. I tend to largely agree with what @Mockney said, albeit with an added dash of talent versus hype being magnified by the age we live in. The quiet, solid pro who doesn’t do anything other than play football won’t exist in 10 years. These lads are being told from the earliest age that they have to market themselves in every imaginable way. Lingard’s carry on will look mild by then.
Nah this is way over the top. By your logic the whole league will be full of lingards in future. Name me the social media whores who play for City and Liverpool

The club are as much to blame for allowing Lingard to stay and coast on mediocrity for marketing buzz

Agree. That’s why we identify more players are as*holes currently than the previous generation. Because Lingard belongs to the social media generation doesn’t mean that we can overlook his ridiculous behaviour and call him a cult hero.

I will never have a bad thing to say about Lingard. He had a stellar youth career. Then for our seniors He ended our trophy drought post Fergie with a goal in an fa cup final at Wembley, yet we were down to 10 men. He will always have my respect for it.

Easy to forget that part of his career. But later, I think he should have stayed at West Ham. He did well there, the fans liked him and he seemed happy under Moyes.

Seems no ones rushing to snap up Jesse.

Doesnt help that he is constantly on social media posting nonsense. Him and Pogba are like the ultimate poster boys for this incoming generation. The day Juve get deducted 15 points, Pogba could post a dance video.

Maybe im just an old fart who doesnt get social media. But I feel theres a time to post bullshit/fun stuff and times not to.

And the time when you have lots of time on your hands because you are unemployed and don't have a club to answer to is a bad time?

Jesus Christ. Lumping in Pogba and Lingard together. One is among the most decorated players of his generation. The other is a distraction/footnote in the clubs history.

I Never compared their abilities to play football…

Im actually a big Pogba fan, the footballer.

West Ham would be mugs if they re sign Lingard. He rejected them for more money, I’d be like you’re on your own.
