You make it sound like we’re in the trenches with him.
Animosity comes from the fact that he’s shite. That’s what it all boils down to.

Last bit is laughable. You do know this is a forum and people will get criticised. I mean people were slaughtering Nani, Berbatov and plenty of others when we were winning... Lingard is more than fair game. He deserves the criticism.
Obviously the vitriol that he gets on his social media is out of order.

Laughable, lord. If you read my post, and perhaps I wasn’t clear enough, I was entirely concerned with the ugly nature of the criticism especially as it relates to him as a human and not as a player. But as I said, I could have been clearer.

Still, there’s criticising a player for his performances, which Jesse is undoubtedly deserving of, and there’s the ugly tone it takes (for the record, it isn’t just Jesse who’s been on the receiving end of ugly criticism on here, it seems to be becoming the norm to go beyond mere analysis and inject personal venom into the critique). All our guys are obviously open to criticism - it comes with the territory of the profession. It’s just the tone that’s gotten out of hand for me.

That said, my original objection was toward the personal attacks, unrelated to Jesse’s performances on the pitch, that he so often receives from the fanbase. It’s just weird and offputting. As you said: this is a forum and that’s my opinion. Take it or leave it, we’re both in this supporting the same club at the end of the day.

Don’t mean to unnecessarily bash the guy it’s just a bit of fun after all but there seems to be a real maturity issue for a 26 year old man. And the reaction to a scab coming off his knee at the end is genuinely embarrassing, even though that word is overused here. Same guy who was melting down on the bus at west ham away (which to me remains the game I started seriously worrying about the way the culture and mentality of the club was going)

It’s fully like watching 12 year olds

"Look at that, it's white broo"

There is a culture at United amongst the playing staff that in a large way contributes to the absolute tragedy on the pitch in recent years, Lingard is the walking epitome of that.
Through him we hate the culture and fan's clamour for a action against it by getting rid of him and symbolizing a change in culture.

1 goal and 0 assists in his last 1000 minutes of football should reflect an equal amount of attitude and courting of publicity. Or you'll become a joke and a parody, Lingard is just that.

Who is the guy who is taking corners? He would be useful more than Jesse. His every cross was good

Thought the same and had flashbacks of every one that hit the first man, about two foot off the ground, this season

I like jlingz, think hes a graet player. I ordered his hoodie a while back. If we built our team around him we can get the best out of his talents. His teqnicue, his vision, his passing, his pace, his work-rate, his passion for united are top class and can get better then ever.

You're not going to last long lad with posts like this.

I like Jesse but obvious WUM is obvious.

Some say Jesse is useful as a squad player, but if he has no vision and doesn’t provide assists or goals, why keep him? He shouldn’t be a squad player; he is just taking up a spot in the squad that could be going to Chong or another youth player.

Would Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern or Juventus keep carrying a forward player such as Jesse? He would be long gone at any of those clubs. Jesse is a symbol of everything that is wrong at Manchester United.

I reckon they’ll be the same story about Lingard that there was about Scholes when he retires.

Fergie said “in all his United career, not one club ever asked about the availability of Paul Scholes for transfer”

That of course was because Scholes was United through and through and Fergie never would have sold him, he was that important.

Lingard’s will be for a very different reason though.

This had me in stitches

Watching him interact with Rashy in those videos makes it seem like he has some semblance authority and that really worries me.

It’s been the suspicion for a while that Lingard is influencing Rashford, and that that influence is a bad one that’s been reflected in his performances. I’d happily sign no one if it meant we could ship this clown off to somewhere else.

They did at various times of their history but what they do is that they never keep them for long

I think it's been rumoured that the coaching staff aren't happy with the influence Lingard has over Rashford and some of the younger players trying to break into the first team.

Not that he's negative or anything but the attitude of 'I am Jesse Lingard, I have my own clothing line/everythings a joke' is grating on some.

The footballing talent of a gas cooker, the iq of a lawn sprinkler and the personality of a burning orphanage.

This 100%. Been known for a while about his influence on Rashford (not that Rashford is actually much better talent wise) The problem I now see is that in Ole we have someone who just doesnt have the balls to do what needs to be done. Neither of these two should be starting for us.

Can anyone explain that "broke the wheel for he new gen"? Been angering me for the last few days and I want someone to tell me my interpretation is wrong. Who does he think he is?

Probably in terms of players doing and developping businesses via social media but then again many were doing it way before him.
Tbh, I have no idea :wenger:

I think he's talking about the new generation of United academy graduates. I feel like slapping him with his stupid glasses.

In the last 1000 minutes of football he played he has 1 goal and 0 assists

And yet people are still tryna claim Lingard is a good squad player. Get to feck. Should be shipped off to a mid table team dumb enough to take him.

Shocking.

The guys just not a winner. I hope Ole has the wherewithal to make the tough decisions and get shot, no matter how popular he is in the dressing room.

God what kind of dressing room is that guy a leader of? Blimey.

And somehow I would find it within me to accept it if he was a workhorse retrieving the ball, if he was stretching play with his runs, if he wasn't hiding from the ball. I can look as hard as I can, I just can't find anything redeeming about him.

I think for an attacking player to go with 1 goal and no assists in the last 1000 minutes, it wouldn't matter how much they ran.

It's a pathetic return

Nothing I hate more than him making speculative flicks or one-touch passes in tight spaces. It’s so clear his lack of talent from the accuracy of the passes and more of a hopeful punt. In comparison, see how MG releases him through in the game against Cardiff. He is really not good enough and should be made a squad option for the rest of his career, or sold to raise cash for other transfer targets.

This, and his unbelievably annoying childish character and behaviour doesn't exactly help his cause either.

This !!!! You nailed it regarding the forced flicks and backheels that go nowhere and produce nothing. Like somehow it is supposed to make him a genius or something

You honestly watch him play and can't see that happening?

This whole thread is amazingly mean-spirited so I'm not sure why I'm getting involved. Especially after he's had such a poor season. I just can't help it when people are literally making stuff up to have a go at him, though.

The top teams rarely get exposed with his runs though i do accept that it comes off on a couple of occasions. However, for every Arsenal game, there are 10 other games which he contribute nothing offensively nor offer a glimmer of hope for a moment of genius. We are overrating his offball movements cos we have the most static bunch of atttackers. Workrate and non-stop pressing shouldn't be a virtue but the basic requirement of a modern day footballer. I take a 17yo MG in a cup final over the likes of Lukaku and Lingard anytime and if you cannot see our point, i respect your views nonetheless.

Yes I can. Running away from the ball and running intelligently to create space for others is very different for me.
I have seen do it many times, I don't need to make stuff up when I see it happening so consistently. It used to be his best asset but this season he has been a bit of a ghost

I could film you a 5 minute video of me doing decent crosses into the box its such an easy technique. Yet pro footballers are really struggling with it. Look at Beckham at 44 yesterday was unreal still.

He's the player I most want gone. What can he do? Other than run around a bit and score a belter once every 30 games? He can't pass, he can't finish, he's got a shit first touch, he can't cross, he's slow, he's weak, he's not a leader. Like seriously, what is his role? When I think of the "Banter Era" I think of Jesse Lingard more than any other player. We need to cut a lot of cancer out, and this cnut is #1 for me. Obviously he's not alone, Young and Jones are just as detrimental for us, but please, get this cnut OUT of our club. He is absolutely stealing a living for club and country. Once we bin him off to a Watford or Southampton level club where he belongs, England will stop picking him. The Tom Cleverley effect.

Eveything about this guy annoys me. Even the way he dressed at the charity game yesterday, a complete premier cnut.
