He is such a bang average player. Just because you have energy and run around a lot doesn't make you a good player.

He could run around for another 180 mins and there would still be no end product from him!

No end product? He scored in cup finals, he scores in big games, his press causes all kind of problems, he’s a good player. Not every player in a team needs to be world class.

It's inevitable we'll have to upgrade over him in summer. Decent squad player but playing every game for United is simply wrong. You have to be super content with mediocrity if you're still defending him to start.

Right now, with the players we have, I think he should be starting for us with what he offers. But reality is, we need better quality in his position and he should be the guy we are bringing off the bench last 20 mins.

When ole compared him to park, I really had my eyebrows raised.

This comparison tend to happen a lot here and I really can't get it. Park was twice the player. Maybe the same type but definitely not the same quality.

He’s a terrible passer when it matters and weirdly today after he played that pass behind Martial the first one he kind of had a 5-10 minute period where it looked like he mentally collapsed. It really is a shame he can’t pass because there are times when his movement creates something and he can’t execute with the needed quality.

What worries me is I don't really rate Lingard, yet I now see him as an important first team player. That speaks volumes about the shocking state of the depth we have in attack. We need to upgrade this lad and relegate him to squad player. He'd be a far better option to have on the bench that Juan fecking Mata

Park was twice the horse power, double the energy and slick with his feet.

It's not just about scoring in big games! Both Sanchez and Mata have scored in big games and in recent cup finals but they're both garbage too. I get that he scores some important goals now and then, but it's about consistency and he is just consistently average.

Read the reviews from the other posters, on the whole they all tend to agree that he runs around a lot but lacks the quality required at this level. That happens to be my opinion too.

A series of careless passes that wasted opportunities to attack, then got injured on one of the few occasions he found a United player.

Same with Jesse.

Not at all, you're forgetting the team we had back then. Would Lingard ever get into that 11? Not a chance. Park would walk in to any team we've had for the last 6 years ahead of Lingard. He's a decent player who is benefitting from the fact we have nobody else who could replace him at this moment in time with Mata being awful and Sanchez barely being able to run.

As I said earlier, Park's legend grows every year.
He used to get pelters on here. Same as Fletcher.
And yes he was in a better team.
Do you not think that would be helpful to an individual's performance?

True, at least they have some work rate. The likes of Mata and Sanchez offer the square root of feck all.

I would imagine Mo Farrah has an exceptional work rate but you wouldn't play him in a Utd shirt.

Just because Lingard runs around a lot doesn't make him a good player This whole Lingard and work rate thing is getting ridiculous now.

Then get him in cause I'd have him instead of Sanchez and Mata
It's no surprise our game fell apart off the ball when those two came on.

Don't get it twisted, he can't be a starter after the summer. However right now we are thin on options. We have had managers spend ludicrous amounts of money yet have very little quality.

Love the way people are getting on his back over the ball played slightly behind Martial, it was still a relatively easy ball to collect but Martial let it under his foot.
Thought he was lively enough but lacked the true class to be our bridge between our midfield and attack( basically Rashford as Martial was asleep).

I would love to see Park for this team. The guy is one of my favourite players but would seriously struggle playing with the players around him.

People expecting him to provide consistent performances when all he had was a significant consistent style of play that was useful for our big games. He played alongside some of the best players United have had & so his performances are enlightened.

Pretty much this. His movement and pace create havoc for the opposing defenders. His finishing is really good. But his passing isn't consistent enough and tonight that seemed to get into his head.

I have seen this side of his game a few times in big games against the bigger teams, especially when he is expected to deliver and a couple of mistakes take his confidence away. City at OT a couple of years back sticks out among them but he has had similar. Plus his final third passing is average at best. We really need an upgrade on him to move to the next level as he is now a starter here.

As I said before we really need an improvement in his position. For all his running and effort he puts in, he cannot make a useful pass in the final third for the life of him. Also his end product is too few and far in between as well. Great option to have off the bench, but never a starter quality for a club the size of UTD.

That misplaced pass to Martial he made when he were on a dangerous counter, could have changed the game in our favour.

Shame about the injury, wish him a speedy recovery, hopefully it's nothing too serious.

If the thing a player gets more talked about is workrate then something isn't right. Ideally he would never start for us but we are sadly in that situation.

Park would actually look better in this team. You downplaying his ability. He was one of the key players for PSV when they reached the semi final for the champions league.

A lot of our squad players from the past would look better than our current players. I would take Brown ahead of any of our CBS. Fletcher as CM.

Could Jesse be a good rotation option to Martial?

He is after all right footed and very fast

There are some players who you can tell they learned football on the streets and there are some you can tell have been coached in a professional setting since they were a little boy. Lingard is the latter - the guy has very little individualism when it comes to 1v1 dribbling and closed spaces. For a forward he's not a player you look for inspiration. But he has instincts developed about where to run, how to position himself and to pick the ball up on the half turn all the time.

Park was a better winger. Lingard is probably better when played in a central position. Obviously we play Lingard as a winger so Park would have been quite a bit better for us.
And Park played with better players in much better teams too.

The least of our attacking problems imo. If a defender gets a choice of going up against Mata, Sanchez or Lingard, he's third on the list.

Yes, but individually park was way better than lingard in every way. He had a better engine, double the energy and slick in his touch, passing and precision.
