I'm probably old skool, but I prefer players who like to shoot at the goal and score goals.
We have far too many player who fanny around in the middle of the pitch. Miki is the best example of this and he is useless.
Goals win your games. And Lingard scores goals.

Let's not forget that the most valuable/expensive players in the World are those who score goals, so I don't think I'm unique in this way of thinking.
No, of course. I'm not saying I'd rather one or the other. In just saying for us to be competitive at the top and challenging for honours, our #10 or RAW needs to have both to his game. He's got one nailed down of late, just wanna see the other.

Mbappe has posters of Lingard on his wall.

Of course his current form of goalscoring is unsustainable, they've all been screamers. Runs like that an incredibly efficient finishing are never sustainable. Signs that are good that point towards possibly sustaining runs of scoring is if you constantly get in good chances, even if you miss them. Allabout the 'xg' pretty much.

Aside from the goals though, Lingards game has definitely improved loads anyway. When the goals dry up, it won't mean that has gone back to old form, as he looks like a very good player these days. Takes great touches, always attacks the space, links up well, finds good pockets of space to receive passes, and obviously his pressing off the ball.

If Sanchez does come in, I'm sure he'll still have a similar role. The way I see it, is Theres 6 spots between the midfield and attack. Pogba, matic and lukaku start when fit. Sanchez would start when fit as well (and perhaps throw lukaku into less of a guaranteed start when fit). The other 2 spots will normally be part of the 3 behind lukaku, and so 2 of Mata, martial, rashford and lingard, whoever is in better form (like it's been this season).

Man Utd 3:0 Stoke
Uncharacteristically quiet today. Happens to the best of em.

I mean he did set up a few good chances this game; and his pressing got us the ball in dangerous positions a few times. Messi Lingard can't score a screamer every game.

Had mercy. Still shouldve had 2 assists in 5 minutes. Everyone in attack looked good in the second half (I missed the first half). nice movement.

Thought he had a good game and drove the ball forward very well. Didn't have a chance to score a screamer but he could have got 2 assists easily for Mata today.

He’s a good squad player. One good month doesn’t change that, the caf’s unbelievable over reaction to that one good month is typical of this place.

I’m delighted he’s improved but tonight and the vast (95%) of his performances just don’t make him the Man Utd number 10. Don’t get me wrong if he gets that consistency (over seasons) he may well be.... Personally I don’t think so.

He played well, don't know what some people are moaning about.

It's quite simple; he is pegged as a squad player and everything will be twisted to suit that narrative.

Several 8/10 games in a row - purple patch
One 6/10 game - squad player
More than one 6/10 game in a row - championship player

Sounds about right.

Already surfacing eh?

He was good today, just not as uncontainable as he has been recently. If anything Mata's determination to be absolutely everywhere for the entire game usurped Lingard's usual role. Some nice link-up and running off the ball and defensive work as ever though.

It’s not about surfacing it’s about not over reacting to one good month. He has one hell of a lot to prove consistency wise and tonight wasn’t an addition to that cause.

He did ok. Not his best game, but thats fine considering others around him did really well.
Thought second half was a bit sloppy by him. But its good to see some high press started by him. Can see the affect it has on others who then follow.

I thought he was thinking about it, to curl one to the far post, but thought better of it and passed it to Mata, who then proceeds to made an uncharacteristic miss.

He played well. Long term I don't think he'll be an automatic choice for us, but he'll be an important squad player as he is now, mainly because I think Sanchez will mainly play as the 10, leaving Lingard, Martial and Mata to rotate for the wings, with martial being the not talented one there. Rashford too, but he's not as far along development wise. But he's definitely showing that even if he doesn't score or assist, he can still have a good game in that position.

He played well. Involved Lukaku goal. As usual working hard to press, always moving around to look for space all the time on the pitch that distract defenders. I miss his screamer tough.

Absolute correct.

Quiet first half but should have had two assists in the 2nd and he dragged a defender wide to help open up a space for Valencia to shoot and was involved in Lukaku's goal.

Thought Jose had listened to me and tried him as an #2 but the half time heat map had him as a #10 in a 4-2-3-1.

He was his usual menacing self last night, without being brilliant. He was visibly creating space for others with his runs, as usual.

Was ok, I thought. I think Mata's place in the team is most at risk with Sanchez signing. Or well, it should be most at risk.

It's a good sign though that when 1 or 2 players aren't scoring/having a blinder, others step up and we're still comfortable winners (allbeit with some good DDG saves/bad Stoke misses).

Think Jesse needs to watch his back....there is a sleeper cell of haters that are just waiting for 2 average performances before they pounce.
Lad worked his backside off last night. I' say a big issue is having the likes of Matic being the player carrying the ball forward as he seems reticent to play it into feet sometimes.
Also Martial near the box was not for even looking for a quick ball in. If that's how we are playing it would be better if Jesse was the one coming deeper for the ball.

Cafeteria looks shite doesn't it? You'd think they'd have something better than what you'd expect in college. I bet those cooks are sick of Jesse
