Lingard has always had the work rate. He runs his socks off every time he’s on the pitch. I’ve always rated his qualities and I just hope he goes on to find some consistency and confidence now.

Credit where due was excellent yesterday well done kid, now keep it up.

Shit at celebrating. Good at football.

Very capable finisher, just erratic at it. A bit of consistency in front of goal and he can claim the #10 role for now. He's definitely doing better than Mkhi and Mata so far.

He ran about and local ladded all over the place. Hope he keeps this level local ladding going in to the Derby and locals all over them.

Even against Huddersfield he was trying to drive the team forward, try the difficult, positive things. I got shat on for trying to fight his corner. His movement and application is fantastic. He never complains and comes up with some great goals.

His celebration was great btw!

People, myself included, forget that Jesse is still young. At 24 Lingard is younger than Lampard was when Jose arrived at Chelsea first time round. We all saw how Lampard developed after that point in his career.

Jesse has always had goals in his locker, consistency is what has dogged him. However, that's often the case with younger players. Not everyone can be brilliant by 21 like Ronaldo and Messi. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the season in which Lingard starts to put together good displays on a weekly basis?

Good to see him play in the middle of the pitch. I thought LvG cracked this code toward the end of his period with us, and we saw a few quite good performances. I was dissapointed when Mourinho again pushed him out wide.

Hopefully he will be viewed as a squad option through the middle for the future.

The new Park Ji Sung~an attacker with pace for the counter, but who can put in a defensive shift and be tactically disciplined. Also someone who has a goal in him and isn’t cowed by the big occasion.

He is still a squad player, those calling for him to be as consistent as he was last night, every week are only setting themselves up for disappointment because you’re raising the bar to impossible heights for Jessi but not holding Mata and Mhiki to the same standards.

I’ll be pleased as punch if he can get 8+ goals and 8+ assists in the league, that would be a fantastic return for a squad player.

However we need Mhiki especially to be comfortably getting 15+ assists and 10+ goals, likewise for Mata.

Show me one player in the EPL with a better off the ball running than Lingard. Maybe Sane. I can't think of anyone else.

People are showering praises on Martial for our second goal due to that brilliant flick. That's typical modern day fans' obsession with the aesthetic aspect of the game. We no longer value the worker bees of the game. But please watch that goal again. You've got to admire Lingard's run into space for Martial's flick to produce. It's the kind of run you show at football academies for kids learning the game. It was superb. And let's talk about how he harassed to win us that ball in the first place.

I only wish the kid was more naturally talented and consistent. He would be impossible to handle.

He links up well with anyone and every one that is why every time he plays we seem to improve offensively.

It's a testament to how well he's developed and worked on his game that I now prefer to see his name on the teamsheet than Mkhitaryan's. He really is an impressive link man, makes very intelligent runs and finds space very well. If he had the technique of, say, Dele Alli, he'd be one of the best players in his position in Europe.

To be fair, he has good technical ability. The problem was that he wasn't productive or consistent enough - every time he played you struggled to think of what he offered offensively besides good movement. Now that he has added goals, and really big game goals, he's viewed in a better light. Hopefully he continues adding more end product to his game, and more consistency.

I agree; I'm not totally dismissing his technical ability. He is undoubtedly a Premier League player and international standard, but if he was even that bit more technically proficient, alá Alli, he'd be a world-beater.

I don't think anyone is asking for him to be as good as he has been in his last 2 games or score every week. I can only speak for myself when i say he needs to be more consistent i mean he needs to keep up to a good level of performance if he gets a run in the side.

In the last two seasons he has had a good game and then quite often followed that up with 5-6 anonymous performances. Now to be fair to him the majority of the time he has been played at RW which just doesn't suit him. So lets hope if he gets a run in the centre that he can put some form together and develop into a really good player on a consistent basis.

Deserves the no.10 spot now, has shown some very accomplished performances this season. His dance moves make me like him more, I was laughing my arse off when he Milly rocked and everyone else was joining in!

Watching David de Gea give him the Man of the Match afterwards was the worst miscarriage of justice since The Guildford Four.

Let's see at the end of the season eh.
Let's see what? The fact is top teams on average have 2-3 players who get 20+ goals + assists. You claimed this would be a good return for a squad player which is nonsense because no squad player is going to be in the top 2-3 of his teams scoring because if they are doing that good then they'll be a starter. If Lingard keeps it up and gets 20+ then he won't be a squad player anymore. 20+ is completely unrealistic expectation of squad players.

More than that, he would have to be more prolific than our 2nd and 3rd best goal/assist getters of last year, combined!

Had you actually read what was there you would see that I said if he keeps up these performances he will definitely keep Mata and Mkhitaryan out of the team and thus play far more games. So yeah, I think it's perfectly reasonable to say that he could get 4 more goals and 6 more assists before the end of the season. Mental, I know.

What? So you think it's completely unreasonable to expect him to get 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season when he already has 6 goals and 4 assists :wenger:

Shit at celebrating. Good at football.

That celebration pissed off a lot of young Arsenal fans yesterday because of what it means.

I'm told the icing on the cake was that he got it right, whereas a lot of people flop it trying.

No. I'm saying he is already on his way to bettering last year''s second most prolific united player.
Setting inflated targets that can then be used to justify future criticism, is unreasonable.
:wenger: back at you.

No what you said exactly is 20+ goals and assists would be very good for a squad player. Which is wrong, its very good for a starter and would be unbelievable and unheard of from a squad player.

Righteo. Considering we aren't even halfway through the season and he already has 6 goals and 4 assists, I think it's fair game to say he should be aiming for in and around 10 goals and 10 assists. No one said he has to so get your panties out of that knot, but it would be great if he could get in and around that mark. Yeah last seasons second top scorer is a great barometer to set.

Can you quote that post. Thanks. I said 10 goals and 10 assists.

More insane expectations. What squad player is getting 8+8?

And 15+10 in the league? That is verging best play in the league territory, something which Mkhi isn't even close to.

If he played like he did yesterday with more regularity then he wouldn't receive half the stick. It's quite simple.
