He's wank. Seriously boils my piss seeing him start for us.

If Mourinho is half the manager we think he is, he won't be starting again for a long time (sub appearances for the foreseeable future).

Indeed.

Bang average footballer, no real skill that will make him stand out against the other wingers in the league. Will score a screamer every once in a while.

Local lad and all that but he's not cut out for this level.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, he's nowhere close to the level of a player that should be starting for United. He'll have moments in games against almost anyone, but he's just not at the level required.

Starting him today was a huge mistake but it fairness not the only one. Miki was miles off the pace, Blind had a shocker & Fellaini looked like the old Fellaini we are used to :(

He's somehow made half of the caf believe he's very good and should be used in the big games. Why would starting him with his close control be a good idea against a high pressing top team be a good idea?

I'm not Mourinho (obviously) but Lingard would have a big black mark next to his name if I was manager. It's not that he didn't do anything with the ball - that happens - but he looked completely unfocused and was pretty much invisible. He has a lot to do to earn another starting spot ahead of Rashford and Martial.

He's probably lost a lot of credit in Mourinho's book today. It's fine to not be up to the mark in terms of attacking and invention, but to fail with simple passes and not be able to control the ball time and time again. This isn't down to form but mentality in big games.

Certainly dispels this bullshit of local players 'getting' the occasion. He was spineless out there and I hope some people wake up to this idea local players in a derby means jack shit.

As most posters say, squad player at best. Still a few that think he's great, don't see it myself. Was hoping he could kick on a-bit under Mourinho. He's only back from injury to be fair but that was a pathetic half of football from him.

He's a handy player to have in the squad as he's capable of playing in a few positions and has a goal in him. He will get plenty of games in the cups and some league minutes too. Still not sure he has any long term future here. De Bruyne was shipped out by Mourinho after a-few average to poor performances and he's a far superior player.

Dreadful today. Silly starting him in such a game considering he's returning from an injury.

Very poor game. Didn't touch the ball much and when he did, lost it almost every time! Why was he thrown into this derby game without any minutes under his belt in recent weeks?

Can't be bothered to read 2 pages of what I am sure is criticism, he simply didn't look match sharp to me.

Surprisingly enough he's being criticised in a thread about his performances after a woeful display. You must have psychic powers.

I'm also sure Mkhitaryan etc are also being slated in their respective threads about their performances.

Come off it, the Caf doesn't like Lingard and are on his back all of the time. He hasn't played for weeks and didn't look match sharp, there were far worse offenders than him out there today who people are fanboying over.

He was terrible. Which is a shame, because when he does well and puts in the graft then he has value to the side.

No idea why he was even starting. He hasn't kicked a ball in weeks.

Did his future chances no favor. He could be a reliable squad player, but not with that kind of performance.

I personally think Lingard has far too many 'fanboys' as you call them. They come to this thread calling people 'haters' when he gets a goal and are nowhere to be seen after a bad performance.

He was shit today. Whether you 'like' him or not, it's a fact. As I said earlier, maybe he wasn't match fit but he was atrocious. As I said too, others were shit. That's being discussed in their respective threads, though. So it's not like anyone is singling out poor Lingard (you would swear he's a victim on here, the way some go on when he gets any form of criticism).

Lingard has some fans that have watched him from a kid that stick up for him regardless, I agree, but there are way more that simply don't want him in the mix at United no matter what he does. I've said from last season that he looks a squad player to me, but the way many go on you'd think he was some championship player. He actually improved towards the end of the half after a nervy start, and Ibra should have scored when he pressed Bravo into an error, yet we have 3 pages shitting on a guy that played a half while Rooney is somehow 4th in the MOTM voting and he was dogshit for 90 minutes bar one turn..

Lingard usually puts in a good solid shift at worst so I can see why Jose started him. Sadly he didn't look at the races and put in quite possibly his worst ever half of football.

Expect to see him on Thursday, hopefully a bit more up to speed.

On the whole players get criticised for poor performances and praised for good performances, other than those who are clearly favoured by certain fans who have clear favourites and think their favourites can do no wrong- or have a convenient excuse

Some are saying that he shouldn't play on the left but last season people were saying he would play better from the left when he was criticised playing on the right or in the middle.
Next excuse -he's not match fit - why the hell is he is the team then?:wenger:

If you take the general consensus of opinion , it's clear to most people that he is not good enough to be a starter.

Shouldn't of started today, looked off the pace and I don't like him on the left anyways. Still question marks for me whether he is good enough to be at this club but that's nothing new.

Should not have started over Rashford or Martial. Should have brought him off earlier too

I don't get this "put in a shift" thing. I could do that ffs. It doesn't mean it warrants a freaking start. He was abysmal. Couldnt control the football to save his life.

He's a squad player at best alright. He's definitely improved since he's come into the side. I initially thought he was utter shite but he got some good goals and gradually improved. He did have a few months last season where he was piss poor and he constantly gave the ball away, though.

He was rubbish today but I was surprised he started given he hasn't played since the Community Shield.

Doubt you can blame him too much. He just came back from injury and had to play the period when our tactic was shit.

Can't blame the lad when you know what he can do and what he cannot. After his contribution of expanding the trophy room with FA Cup & C. Shield he still can be useful but perhaps in different type of matches.

One lesser performance in a sea of better ones. He'll be alright.
