Bayern have only loaned Cancelo and given that he's barely been playing lately and his buy option is high I doubt they're going to make it permanent.
Mazraoui has so much health/fitness issues, a shame. Malo Gusto sadly off to Chelsea.

Weird timing on this comment considering a couple days ago it came out that Bayern has already decided to send him back.
I’ve been avoiding football news since Sundays debacle & hardly keep up to date with Bayern as is.

The fact they loaned Cancelo is hardly an endorsement but I guess the Caf is on the Frimpong train. Choo choo.

Loved Frimpong at Celtic. He's a right back. He cannot play Right wing , we tried it multiple times. He struggles with his back to goal. As a right back though going forward he is a sensation. His dribbling and pace regularly rip defenders apart. His technique for the final ball can let him down a lot though. Has a curly toe as neil lennon would say.
His recovery pace and getting back to defend is brilliant.

He will be an assest to any club he joins.

Is he a good defender?

Not sure what he is like now. When he was with us, his pace shut down many wingers. However he would sometimes be drawn to the winger and the ball between him and the CB would catch him out. He usually got back with his pace but it could lead to dangerous situations.

1 on 1 defending he is good, decent tackler and when he wins it he usually carries it far up the pitch with his running.

A big weakness would be back post headers. Positionally he's usually there , but he is very small so his best bet a lot of the time is to put the attacker off as he isn't winning the header.

Nice thanks for the insight

Tbf that last part doesn’t concern me too much if he can make up for it in attacking output. There aren’t too many fullbacks I can think of who are absolutely stellar defensively and attacking.

The issue with someone like AWB is he’s a defensive fullback first and foremost, but still has glaring deficiencies (like defending at the back post, concentration, etc), without having much attacking output.

Shaw is generally one of the most balanced fullbacks around, but even he has suspect moments at the back post.

This guy deserves a start over Dumfries in the national team. Dying to see what all the fuss is about as I've never seen him play.

The best RB in Europe. Still crazy to me he didnt play one minute at the World Cup.

Whether he's average at defending or not, his breakneck recovery speed should put out of lot of fires. When you're fast in isolation it's not quite enough to make a [top level] career from (Dan James) - but when you're decent enough at the other stuff, that speed is almost like a luxury cheat code to go along with all the other stuff.

Laird was my big hope but the lad is injured again and it happens too often to rely on him as our next RB.

I’m now on the Frimpong train. And although I’m a fan of Dalot, I really like the defensive strength AWB provides so would keep him as back-up.

Leaps like a frog though. This season he got at the end of a few pretty high crosses. Only in the opponent's box, though.

He's improved massively since he joined us, too. Looked a bit lost positionally in his first few games even though you could immediately see how exceptional his pace and dribbling is. Basically on his first few touches after being subbed hin, he carried the ball almost from the corner to the opponent box only to feck up the easy pass. He's become much better at passing, too, especially at cut backs. His passing range is pretty limited but his link up play has become excellent. Not only in attack but also when playing out of high pressure situations. A feint here, a quick one two there and then wooosh, you only see his backheels.

I believe Dumfries is suspended because a yellow/red during that shootout at the World Cup. Maybe we can finally see Frimpong play in orange

Apparently the 4th most dribbles completed among all players in Europe's top 5 leagues, behind only Vinicius, Messi and Alphonso Davies, and just ahead of Bellingham. We could do with two of those.

People have such a high view of managers and their (technical) staff, a lot of the time they are morons.

I mean, I love Geertruida, but Frimpong is a world class talent.

I guess Koeman is not going to play wingbacks and reasons Frimpong is one?

Dumfries plays for Inter who also play with wingbacks. It isn't like Frimpong is Perisic's age - he's 22, he can play at fullback against Gibraltar.
Not only that, Dumfries is also suspended for the upcoming game :wenger:

Pretty stupid. Thought that he might get a break because he was on the edge of an injury recently but if he's playing U21, that's just stupid.

Koeman really is a fraud.

Makes it even dafter to exclude Frimpong then only for him to play U21. If it was fitness related, fair enough but he won't be getting rest.
As a close follower of Dutch football in general this absolutely baffles me. Koeman smoking something here.

For anyone who regularly watches German football and Frimpong in particular would you say he’s better going forward than Dalot ? Better crosser ? Better passer ? Better positionally ?

He’s certainly quicker from what I’ve seen and I like the improvement of AWB under ETH and who’s probably the best right back defensively in the league so needs to stay as a different option, we tend to play with one attacking full back and one defensively sound each game with the side alternating.

I don’t agree with this, I think he’s a bit weak defensively. He is excellent in the tackle but very poor a ball coming in from the opposite flank and is susceptible to letting off ball runners in behind him. He has improved going forward under ETH but he still needs to improve the defensive side also.

Very disappointing that Frimpong wasnt called up for the first team. He pulled out of the U21 with an injury so i guess he does get some rest now.

Injury to his pride? (Would make sense!)

He was subbed off against Berlin two weeks ago in the 29th minute and wasn't really fully fit afterwards. Pride could still play its role, maybe he would've played through the pain if he had a chance to start for the first team.

Nah, I was kidding. Although I would understand if his threshold for the pain/trouble he is willing to go through would be a good bit lower for a U21 call-up.
