Once a potential signing builds steam on here, there’s nothing you can do to stop the train, posters will view the player and signing as a must going off very little. We saw this in the summer with Amrabat, you would have thought he was Makelele 2.0 the way United fans on here and all over social media were clamouring for his signing.

I get it with players like Kane who play in the PL or even players in foreign leagues but with a lot of exposure like Sancho, De Jong, etc but with players with a lesser known profile it’s never made sense to me.

I’ve watched him a bit and from what I’ve seen he doesn’t merit the fanfare that seems to be building. Not saying he isn’t a good defender but that’s all he is to me a good defender I don’t see an outstanding player there.

He definitely is not. Is not a solution at RCB paired with Martiez (who is not a solution at LCB anyway). Getting him would mean adding to our pile of decent but definitely not outstanding players. The only top defender we have in our collection is Varane, on whom injuries have taken a toll and can't be relied upon. Shaw and Martinez are good but not outstanding either. Rest are all mid to lower table quality.

Todibo is class, still needs to progress in many aspects, but think that we need first to sell two of Varane, Maguire and Lindelof.

If we agree that Licha is a definite starter ( based on last year's form) we have 3 players fighting for one spot, and Evans a sub.

If we add another player it will be too much players there and not interesting for Todibo not to play.

So think that we have to sell first before adding anyone there.

Not losing sleep over this. Its going to be at least two summers (or one summer of a big, intentional clearout) before we have flexibility again to do things in the transfer market.

Whether he comes or not we need to think about replacing the sum parts of a functioning high pressing side.

I don’t think we’ll make any move for anyone of note this window.

I believe those 8 years long contract they have been giving out to everyone, plus they’ve made a deal with Saudi buying all their deadwood’s last summer, done the tricks.
But i believe they changed the ruling so that a transfer fee can only be smeared over 3 years?

5 years isnt it?
Ah yes, about right. That would still do something with Chelsea if it would work in hindsight, which it won't unfortunately... Chelsea and only a handfull of other teams 'benefited' from this system (Chelsea is still terrible, mind).

Sir Ratcliffe and Ineos can be a big part and reason that lead him to Old Trafford.

A loan move in this transfer window? To see if he has the top level in him. I don't have access to French ligue. So i still have seen him full live yet. To judge and rate him. But yes i have heard and read the rumuor about this boy.

We wont be able to sign him in the summer if both us and Nice qualify for European competitions as UEFA rules will ban us an Nice from signing players from each other.
I really don't think this is accurate. Even the Red Bull clubs Salzburg and Leipzig managed to participate in UEFA competitions without officially violating those UEFA rules, I am sure Ratcliffe and his people will easily find a way around.

Those 2 clubs arent owned by the same people

How to put this politely you are being naive , to think Ratcliffe with his army of lawyers haven't thought this through doesn't make sense in the slightest .

Surely with Sir Jim we could do a 2 year loan deal with option to buy?

See how he performs and if good sign him

Branthwaite is my guy. Far and away my first choice, been impressed since I first saw him for Everton in the second half of the season two years ago and he’s coming on nicely.

Where possible without compromise on quality (and price), I always prefer for us to get an English talent. Branthwaite, I think, is in a group of potential world class centre halves around now and he is young and from the north west so should be favoured. He’s a physical giant which I think we need and I can see him growing into a real dominant centre half. He’ll be an England regular for years to come too, and will likely make the squad this summer even.

From the PL I’d love Branthwaite and Eze. Not so sure on Olise yet.

I agree on him, but if we sign him we need two CBs. And that is probably the case anyway.

Eze I'm not sure on, definitely the right style of player but not sure he's the right level. The role he plays, you pretty much need a truly elite player there to be a top club. Number 1 option for pretty much any club out there for that role would be Wirtz I'm sure, to be the most advanced midfielder of the 3, where they can carry and create and provide goal threat.

Agree regarding Olise, I'd much prefer we go for Nico Williams where has has pace, power, real dribbling ability and can repeatedly beat his fullbacks, going inside or outside.

Branthwaite vs Todibo, would be happy with either. Depends on who is more realistic and the cost associated with them.

You put your finger on it. That's exactly where we normally go wrong.

We should be pursuing multiple options at once and make your final decision based on the 3 or 4 deals on the table for the same requirement.

The way we normally do it puts all the power with the player and his agent.

I see Eze as a player who has elite ability and needs to make the next step. With Wirtz, you have to factor in the joke of a league he plays in to a degree. Also, Eze’s superior physicality is an appeal to me. He’s also not £100 I imagine.

Paqueta is another player of interest to me, and as a young, cheaper punt - Cherki should certainly be on our radar. I imagine our off-field team is about to become quite Franco-philed so I imagine they are well aware of Cherki’s potential, which is enormous if unlocked. He’s no less talented than Wirtz.

I think he's super talented. Him on the right side would improve us a lot in terms of picking up the ball, progressive carries and breaking the lines.
Him and Branthwaite are my picks, I think they'd compliment each other very well and would form a quality spine for us to build with for years to come.

Branthwaite plus one of Todibo, Scalvini or Diomande wouldn’t be too shabby.

I have my doubts about Tobido, especially watching how vulnerable we are to corners etc. he’s another CB whose strength is on the ground. I feel like we need an imposing CB

Need a younger Smalling. Dominant athlete aerially and defending space.

We need a centre back dominant in both boxes. Especially so if Martinez is going to be a starter.

Watched him 3-4 times and he seems to switch off AWB style a few times per game. I know many people will disagree but I'm not convinced he is Untied quality.

Never watch Todibo so I can’t put too much comment on him aerially, but based on stats he has 64.7% aerial duel success, which is pretty good. The one that low is his aerial duel contest. Either is because Nice dominant the possession so they rarely defend or he’s coward like Lindelof so he runs away from challenge. But he makes good amount of ground duel contest.

Judging by those stats Todibo and Scalvini would make quite a balanced pairing. Could we sign both perhaps? Sending Kambwala to Nice (perm or as a loan) as part of the deal could work.

Linked with Bayern now. I hope SJR vetoes this transfer and brings him to us in the summer.

My takeaway from this is that Todibo and Scalvini would be a well matched partnership!

My take exactly, and funnily enough we're strongly linked with both. Would be a very promising bit of business if we did and would leave us with an interesting group of CBs:

Martinez, Todibo, Scalvini, Maguire or Lindelof, Evans (deserves a 1y extension as 5th choice), with Shaw a viable cover option too.

Kambwala to go out on loan for a year hopefully and then come back in as that 4th CB replacing Maguire/Lindelof and Evans.
