“We are close and optimistic, one would expect,” said Sunday in London in conjunction with the Emirates Cup PSG sporting director Leonardo on the leader of Palermo Argentine Javier Pastore , whose arrival is expected in Paris ” if possible before August 6. “

How are the negotiations with Pastore?
We are close and optimistic. We are pleased to be able to get him. We’ll see what happens in the coming days. Well, it’s a bit long but these are not things that are resolved quickly. It was a very good relationship with the player and Palermo but has yet to agree on everything. If you get there, everyone will be happy. Negotiations are going very well. One expects. The idea is to have everything completed if possible before August 6.

Do you want to continue to recruit next?
The base group is made. In this transfer window, it was a lot. We did what we had planned to do, and maybe even more. We tried to act by watching what happened last year. We had to do things quickly, but we did well against the market, our resources, our needs and based on the actual date.
So Palermo have agreed the fee, they're just working on he personal details now.

Argentina playmaker Javier Pastore has confirmed a deal has been agreed for him to sign for Paris St Germain from Italy's Palermo.
The skilful player has been tracked by some of Europe's leading clubs and Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has been hoping for a 43 million euro deal, which would be a French record.

"I can say officially that I am going to be a player of Paris St Germain," Pastore said on his own website (www.javierpastore.com).

Some details still need to be rubberstamped but his arrival is a real coup and the latest in a spending spree by underachievers PSG, who were bought by Qatari investors at the end of last season and have recruited ex-player and former AC and Inter Milan boss Leonardo as sporting director.

AS Roma's France midfielder Jeremy Menez is among other recent signings ahead of the French season starting this weekend.

Welp that's that.

Find it hard to understand this move for football reasons, but i'm glad he didnt go to City or Chelsea..

He couldnt have picked a better city to move to tho, its just fantastic. If PSG keep investing then the amount of top quality players they'll attract over the next few years will be huge!

I don't think he is going to treat PSG as a stepping stone seeing as they are paying nearly £40m to get him and will want even more than that if he succeeds. Who will pay that?

He'll be at PSG for a very long time tho man - have you not seen how many restaurants there are? There's definitley more than two thats for sure

Lucky fecker, I can see why he chose to go there. I love Paris, probably my favourite city & who wouldnt want to live there, well maybe except Kouroux - he's not that fussed on it tbh..

Although PSG havent the players atm, who's to say they wont be a force to reckon with in the next 3-5 years..

French football hasnt had the same draw for players as other leagues, but Paris would have always been a massive draw but for the lack of the right team & pay conditions to back it up... fantastic city!

Puzzling but at least it wasn't Chelsea (or City).

Is PSG cash rich or do they have a benefactor?

They were bought by Qataris, I think they might actually have a shot at creating a top side there - a fantastic city, a poor league that will be easy to dominate in and guarantee CL football year in year out (although they aren't in it this year), plenty of cash.

Aren't their owners the lad's who were originally interested in us? They're richer then City!

But will really top players be interested to join a team in the league where there is little domestic competition? There are some decent teams, but surely they'll be coasting soon enough and that would mean that the only tough games they'll be in will be the CL.

They'll just buy another club in a more competitive league & bring PSG's players with them..

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that.. I think it will be a eye opener to the other clubs like Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille (even though they are the current champions) as well as the likes of Monaco etc.. They too will try to up their game and spend more to compete better and eventually achieve more.. I hope for their sake, I am right..

qué jugador

won the game for PSG once more tonight

Yea. He was very good. Impressed. Lyon could have scored from one of their many headers.

why the feck did he go to PSG.... what a waste. No disrespect to French football but the french league is not of the standard of the EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga or Serie A. I havent actually watched it in a few years but even then it didnt excite me much.

$$$
He also said he wasn't "ready" for the likes of Madrid and Barca yet

He would have got plenty of meny at Chelsea (if indeed he did turn them down).

I suspect he is the sort of pleyer who doesnt fancy getting kicked about. A few years in France and he'll be off to Spain.

Pastore was seen as the jewel in the crown for the newly-rich PSG, now backed by the Qatar Invesment Authority, as they spent heavily over the summer in an attempt to join the European football’s elite clubs.

However the 22-year-old has indicated he sees his future elsewhere, adding that he will try and land a move to a bigger club by working hard in training to prove his worth.

"I train with great conviction in order to realise my dream of playing with a big team," the former Palermo playmaker told Radio Radio.

"It depends on me if I want a team that is bigger that PSG to call me." He added.

Pastore initially impressed after making the switch from Italy to France but has come in for criticism in recent weeks for a series of lacklustre performances, but Andre Villas-Boas in particular will be monotiroing the situation after coming close to landing his target over the summer.

Chelsea were expected to bring Pastore to Stamford Bridge after missing out on Tottenham’s Luka Modric, but suffered another blow when the talented youngster signed a five year deal with PSG.

Manchester United meanwhile could dearly use the services of the creative midfielder after a plethora of injuries that have ravaged their squad.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been forced to play both Phil Jones and Wayne Rooney out of position in midfield in recent weeks after Anderson and Tom Cleverly were ruled out for the long-term with injuries.

The long-term absence of Darren Flecther may force Ferguson to enter the transfer market when the window opens in January, although the Scot has recently reiterated his stance there is unlikely to be any new arrivals at Old Trafford next month.

:smirk:

Didnt PSG sign him for 40m
There is no way we are signing him from them anytime soon

What the feck is wrong with Argentinian footballers? He signed a 5 year contract with PSG about four months ago for Christ's sake.

They threw a pile of money at him.

Yeah but it's more than a bit stupid to start talking of moving away four months after signing for them, especially given the length of the contract he agreed to.

It's just so wrong.

Oh he'll just shrug those comments off as "taken out of context" if they garner any excessive attention.

I'm sure he's talking about going to Real or Barca, I mean, how many Argentinian midfielders have United had? Plus the fee would probably have to go up, and only those two would pay more than 45 mil for Pastore.

PSG are going to be a very luxurious stepping stone for many of the best young players from the looks of it, and they seem to have acknowledged this when they brought in a player like Pastore who talked about Madrid and Barcelona within days of signing for PSG. Wouldn't be surprised to see Lucas from Brazil do the same.

There's nothing PSG can do about the league they're in, it's not one of the elite leagues so they can't be one of the elite clubs, so they've just accepted that.

That may be true Brwned, but so soon after signing for the club it is disrespectful to the fans to be talking of moving already. Imo he would be better off just getting his head down and let his football do the talking.

Spot on, he is a talented player, but i wouldn't want us to go for him now. What would be the point, when every time he was interviewed by the foreign media, he would be 'dreaming of Madrid or Barca'!

I don't think it's fair to slag off Argie players in general though, players like Cambiasso and Zanetti have proved they are not all disloyal mercenaries! Saying that though they are from an older breed and it is only the distasteful antics of players like Tevez, and some ill advised comments from Pastore that are now giving them such bad press atm.

Oh I agree, ridiculous to acknowledge publicly that you have no real attachment to the club and just see it as a stepping stone. Not far to the fans at all.

He's having huuuge problems at PSG at the moment

Was whistled off the pitch yesterday evening as he was substituted 20 minutes before the final whistle, which prompted him to leave the Parc des Princes before his team-mates.

Despite him being a marvelous player, it looks as though the mediocrity of the Parisian atmosphere could bring him down like others before him.
