Agreed. He'd be fighting for top scorer if he was at Chelsea, Arsenal or (god forbid) maybe even Liverpool. There's a begrudging respect from all opposition fans when it comes to Hernandez - that's the greatest sign of his quality. Every team is envious of a player that can guarantee goals, particularly one with such a great attitude.

Hernandez and Suarez in the same team would score alot of goals.

He's exactly the player they're missing.

I think top clubs would definitely want him but whether he would start on a regular basis is another thing. His all round game is showing signs of improvement but personally I still don't think it's near the same level of our other attackers. With him playing he's likely to pick you up a goal whether you're or he is playing well or not, but with a better player if a lesser goal scorer I think the team itself might get more goals or attack better as a unit. For example at Real I'm not sure if Hernandez would give Ronaldo quite as much as Benzema does even if Benzema isn't the direct supply.

Love him! Some things are just meant to be, right from the moment he scored in the Charity Shield by kicking the ball into his face.

Get the feeling he's going to score big, big goals for us, ...like Ole did.

You saw yesterday when Chicharito came on how the game opened up for both Rooney and Van Persie. Rooney stung Guzan's hand, Van Persie rattled the crossbar. As soon as Chicharito came on and started dragging the Villa defence backwards the space opened up for both Robin and Wayne and they were loving it. You think Ronaldo wouldn't?

Yes Benzema has more strings to his bow than Chico in terms of natural talent but its arguable who is more clinical and Benzema certainly isn't as quick. Defending Benzema is a slightly different task than defending Chico in so far as, as a defender you can afford to chance your luck at playing a higher line than against Hernandez. For players like Rooney, RVP and Ronaldo what this translates to is less space between defence and midfield for them to pick up the ball in and play.

Real Madrid are so dominant that most of the time it doesn't matter anyway and their team is technically good enough to play through teams that are squeezing them 9 times out of 10. But I think its quite clear that any gifted attacker would thrive in the gaps opened up by Hernandez's running. It was one of the main things that turned Rooney's 2010/11 season around and were he at Madrid I don't think it'd do Ronaldo any harm...

He'd do great for Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool

He'd do great for them, but the only one of that group there's a realistic chance of him going to in the slightest is Chelsea. That's even a push as I don't know if we'd want to sell for them. While he's here, Arsenal and Liverpool would be nonsensical moves for him to make. Less success and less money for him.

I don't think he'd ever want to leave here full stop, there's not a chance of him moving to another PL team.

There were stories in the summer we rejected Chelsea's offer for him.

Hernandez certainly made a difference but what also helped was taking off Young who was offering nothing attackingly, I doubt at the likes of Real/Barca they'd have a player who was offering so little in his best role.

It's not a slight on Hernandez, he's a good footballer and one of the best finishers around but for me that isn't enough. Even if he went to Real when it came to the big games they'd play I doubt he would get in ahead of someone like Benzema even if he isn't as good a finisher.

I guess the test will be whether he stays in our team or not long term. He's done enough to deserve a start but much like Dzeko at City, there are other players who make the team better even if they themselves don't get the goals. Personally I think that if Nani or Kagawa hit some form they'd come in over him most times and that we'd be a better team for it. I like Hernandez and consider him an important part of the team, but for me I wouldn't name him in my best 11 and certainly don't think he'd definitely start at the likes of Real.

Really rescued us and its a shame that the second goal isn't going to be counted for him. Looks like he is going to start in the next match as well. Definitely well deserved as he is in very good form at the moment.

Let's imagine (if you have frivolous imagination) for one minute that we were Liverpool... I think it would be the right time to sell Chicarito and get an over-hyped player telling everyone that it is the new Pele/Zidane/Messi (please tick where applicable). :wenger:

I liked Ian Wright's suggestion yesterday that he couldn't stand it when Hernandez scored as it always reminded him of what the Bummers are missing and that they went for Carlos Vela instead !

By the way does anyone know if Mexico have a friendly this week? I'm hoping the answer is no.

He's improved so much this season, and I laughed at the suggestion that he'd be worth £20m back in the Summer because I didn't believe he had it in him to become this good. I though he'd be behind Welbeck but on the evidence of the past two months he's at least third choice and at times could even get in ahead of Rooney as he's far more clinical. He's definitely an amazing option off the bench, shades of Solskjaer.

At the start of the season he was 4th choice, now he is bordering on 2nd in his current form IMO.

Not sure what has changed for him so drastically in the last few months, but whatever has happened has made a huge difference.

He has regained a lot of his pace, which is a big asset. He also seems to have grown in confidence. More impressively, he has started to play well; his link-up play has improved drastically, and he is even taking on players these days. No doubt the lad knows where the goal is - didn't even have to look up to score his first against Villa.

Just something funny I saw today. Jorge Vergara the owner of Chivas Guadalajara once offered Chicharito to Chivas USA in MLS, but the coach at the time (Preki) said no as he didn't think he was good enough.

I'm guessing this is at the time when he wasn't getting any playing time and wasn't sure if he was going to make it as a pro.

He's easily worth 20 million. Even in his off season last year he scored the same number of goals as Welbeck who had far more minutes.

Fergie attributes it to rest, and I can't disagree with him. He went 3 years without a prolonged break. I never doubted him. Frankly Welbeck needs to prove he can score 20 a season like Hernandez has done to even warrant being called "third choice"

IIRC there was an article posted very early on in the thread where Hernandez spoke about how he came very close to deciding to quit professional football. Might have been right around that time.

It's strange how different he is on and off form. He seemed to have hit rock bottom in pre-season this summer. Predatory finishing having been his biggest strength, he suddenly looked completely incapable of putting the ball in the net. In one game (can't remember which) he was given the ball five yards or so from goal twice in the space of about a minute, and air-kicked both times. I remember understanding for the first time why he had got close to quitting football during that bad spell at Chivas. But look at him now!

There is something about the courteous, humble and sincere nature of Javier Hernandez that fascinates Jose Mourinho, who wants to bring the Mexican to Madrid for closer study. And the Portuguese is confident that Sir Alex Ferguson will let the dangerous striker go, what with the Scot having already driven out Dimitar Berbatov for next to nothing. But just in case someone at United decides to play hard ball, Mourinho is prepared to sweeten the deal by throwing in longtime Ferguson crush Karim Benzema.

Taken from the Guardian transfer gossip section today.

Smells and reads like bullshit but would anyone take Benzema for Chicharito? Personally I wouldn't swap him for anyone in the world at the moment, bar the obvious Ronny or little fella from Barca.

That excerpt once again shows how far journalism has fallen. I could write that even if I was high. Littered with inaccuracies.

I hope that is bullshit. Benzema is an overall better player, but Chicha is the better goalscorer and offers another dimension to the game, especially from bench. Also, I don't think that Benzema would be happy spending most of the time in the bench. And probably he is on a higher wage too.

I would swap him for Benz. Benz is unplayable on his day. It isn't going to happen though.

I'd swap him for Benzema in a heartbeat, he's a much better player.

I somehow doubt it's true though so this is a little pointless.

I'd keep Chicharito. If we really want Benzema then we can go get him without relinquishing the best goalscorer at the club.

It's obviously bullshit as Benzema has with good reason a higher market value. However saying that id prefer Hernandez who has a great team ethic and really fits the ethos of a Man Utd player. Seems to get on with things even when not playing regularly and loves playing for the team. That kind of thing is immeasurable and invaluable in equal quantities
