Javier Hernandez | 2010/11 Performances

He really is closer than I would have guessed, which I suppose means he's played fewer minutes than I realized. Van Persie and Hernandez are at 95.36 and 95.45 min/goal, respectively. Berba is at 100.2 min/goal. Caveman Carlos is 4th at 119.3 min/goal, so a fair bit back of the top three.

I might note that this is a stat that doesn't necessarily give a great indication into someone's player. After those four, the rest of the top ten are Leon Best, Bibotelli, Harewood, Sturridge, Carroll and Walcott.

Berbatov plays nearly double the minutes they played though, pretty impressive.

The stat is only useful for those on the top few of goalscorers. Think RVP and Hernandez are top 10 in the league for league goals. The likes of Leon Best etc. barely play much due to injury or their team having preferred options.

Probably should have a minimum required of minutes to qualify for the best goal/minutes ratio just like how the NBA has when it comes to their race for the best statistical player in their various catagories.

Easily enough accomplished. If I limit it to players who've played a minimum of 30 minutes/game the team has played, that gives us the following list:

1) van Persie
2) Hernandez
3) Berbatov
4) Tevez
5) Carroll
6) Walcott
7) van der Vaart (Beckford would go here, but he falls literally 1 minute short of qualifying under the 30 minutes/game standard)
8) Ebanks-Blake
9) Pavlyuchenko
10) Kalou
11) Rooney

He's #2, just the slightest bit behind van Persie. Both have 11 goals, but the gooner's played one fewer minute than Hernandez. Berba is third.

Excal - where do you get these goals/mins stats? Can you get international goals/mins as well?

Great to see SAF rewarding Hernandez fantastic performances with more time on the pitch. SAF can be a stubborn man at times but he has also fallen in love with our mexican maestro. Yesterday in the first half we were crying out for Chicharito's pace and cunning and I was very happy to see SAF change it so quickly at half-time. He is becoming a 'must start' player for the vast majority of our games. For his first season his rise has been phenomenal. Well done Chico.

His attitude should also get a mention - whenever he comes on, he has that drive and willingness to make things happen. Fits perfectly in the United way

Yes but the pleasing thing is that he can back that up with his talent. It's all very well and good enjoying being out there but if you have two left feet and trip over your own shoelaces, it's still nice seeing you try but not much use.

I've never seen a defense not look panicked when he's on the field.

His movement for the Rooney goal was out of this world. You can feel the panic in the Chelsea defense when he is buzzing around.

Hernandez going off in the Premiership game against Chelsea was a big reason why United lost that game.

Think Terry's the only defender so far that can say he's kept Hernandez quiet!!!

Good game, almost scored 2 goals & he's always on the move. I like the Rooney-Hernandez partnership and it was good to see SAF went with it rather than the 4-5-1 with Rooney on his own that most people predicted.

Loved the bit when he tracked back and halted Drogba in his strides. Even if he's not getting chances, he keeps defenders on their toes, I don't think anyone could have foreseen him becoming such a key member so quickly.

Difficult for him tonight, he was chasing many lost causes but he does his bit and he doesn't shirk defensive responsibilities. I think that could be an important part of his game as he develops at the club. I almost think Ferguson would have been looking for that from him tonight, nearly as much as his attacking threat.

Same as the other Chelsea game this season really.

Another good performance tonight, he pressed tirelessly and I thought he did well on the ball on several occasions, particularly his ball to Valencia from the edge of our box that set us off on a counter near the end of the first half.

Not really the game he could really shine. It was more a game for Berbatov imo. He needed space and lots of passes and balls, which you just dont get in such a game.

His biggest weakness right now is his first time passing, these passes too often go the wrong way

The thing is, even if he's not getting loads of chances and coming close to scoring, he's still pulling their defenders all over the pitch and preventing them from pushing up. It's something that will be often overlooked but helps our overall control of the game.

Torres = 50 million

Hernandez = 8 million

Not as good as Torres, I grant, but what a bargain.

well he has been far better this season. And I would not be surprised if he is every season from now on. We are only seeing about 50% of what this boy is capable of. He is just going to get better and better. Torres will do well to get back to what he was like for Liverpool 2 years ago.

He really frightens defences with his pace and movement. His presence as a regular starter for United and Valencia's return have been huge boosts for Rooney.

Torres of late could use a fair few lessons from Chicharito on movement. That's not saying much though, because he looks so Lost even lessons from Hurley would help.

When he got subbed off today his stats were Attempts 0 - On target 0.

He was incredibly unlucky that Cech got a feint touch on the ball otherwise he was nailed on to bury that chance.

And was unlucky not to connect with Rooney's lofted cross in the first half.

His movement is incredible, straight to the near post and makes himself available, when giggs went past Bosingwa, hernandez instinctively went for the near post, and you saw him draw Terry away, leaving Rooney free in the middle to slot the ball home.

The kid is fantastic, and long may his development continue.

He needs to bulk up to face opposition such as Chelsea and their style of play. Berba is more suited to them.. Oh well.

He kept Ivanovic and Essien to always provide cover for Terry. Terry was going to win all the aerial battles but as mentioned by others Hernandez kept the Chelsea centrebacks squeezing play.

Agreed.

I noticed that as well. His run helped create the space for the Rooney shot. Rooney and Hernandez seem to have a good understanding.

Completely agree

Gonna be interesting if he starts on Saturday or is rested with Berba and Owen leading the attack instead. Amazing how he has become an almost 'must start' player.

Probably will start on the bench on Saturday if SAF plans to start him again next week.

hmm? They got a dodgy penalty on the counter against us after he went off, what could Hernandez have done about that?

Nothing to do with the peno, we played much worse after he went off in the league game as it allowed their defence and especially Luiz to really press the play high up the pitch.

But the peno's the reason we lost, and they got that after countering us, not from pressing high up the pitch.

surely when the first stat is 0, there is no need to give the second stat?

Tell ITV mate i'm just passing it on! ;)

But yeah you're right, I've never seen a striker play the majority of a game and not have one attempt on goal though.

But as I said his movement was very effective, and offers a very different dimension to our forward play. His ability to make space for himself and get goal-side is top notch, you could see Terry want to get straight to him, but that left Rooney alone in the middle.

I was glad to see Berba come on towards the end though, as we needed him to hold the ball up, which is something Hernandez doesn't offer quite as well.
