I wonder how much hernandez has benefitted his development due to being able to learn from Michael Owen? Similar kinds of player, and Owen has a wealth of experience he can pass on.

I had a chat with my Spurs supporting mate the other day and he said, and I could hardly believe it because he's quite the "Glaston": - never mind, van der Vaart, Hernandez is the signing of the season, hands down.

Doubt it really. He looked a player at the world cup too.

Unlucky to be subbed. Never got a chance to run in behind Bolton today. He certainly had the beating of their defence. Received feck all service.

I was disappointed to see him come off.

Fabio on for Wes was the right move (injury or not) but I felt Berbs on for Chico was an incorrect one despite Berbatov getting the winner. The only reason I can think of is purely height. Obviously we lost Wes' height so Berbatov is more useful than Chico when defending set pieces.

The way we played in the second half though I reckon we'd have scored much sooner.

If Berbatov, the substitute, gets the match winner, how can that possibly be the wrong move? Having a sub get the winner sounds just like the right choice to me.

Even if Berbatov, scored 100 winners it'd be the wrong move.

But nah, I was disappointed Berbatov didn't start, but then I was also disappointed to see Hernandez come off at half time, I thought he looked dangerous. Berbatov still did fairly well when he came on though, don't think he was any less involved than Cheech was.

Yeh I know. It makes sense to me though.

Great call. Fergie confirmed that was exactly why Berb and Chico swapped h/t.

I thought Berbatov deserved a start today. He is far better from the start than as a sub and Hernandez could have come on later if needed. However, had Hernandez stayed on I am certain we would have scored more and earlier as his pace and quick thinking would have paid off. All around a great result for United and keeps Berbatov top of the goalscorers list.

From the beginning, i thougth Berbatov was more suited for that game.

I agree with you, had one coming, I was shocked Cahill caught him that time he was in as well, he should have scored on that play

Who's to say Hernandez doesn't score second half himself? It's not a zero some game, there are any number of possibilities and combinations of right and wrong moves. Fergie might make a sound, logic decision, and on the day it not work, on another it work magnificently. This is football after all

Is there a United fan anywhere who didn't think for that chance Berbatov got clean through when he was chased down and tackled by Cahill "ah, if only that was Hernandez"?

I certainly wouldn't change anything that happened though!

Would you say that we could have won 100-0 and it will would have been the wrong decision?

By the same token though, would we even have got that chance if Hernandez had been on the pitch? There's a fair chance Bolton would have been playing a deeper line so they wouldn't have got caught out like that.

You could also wonder what would have happened if it had been Berbatov that the ball had been played up to some of those times in the first half, maybe he'd have held it up and allowed us to put pressure on Bolton rather than Hernandez immediately looking for the run in behind. We could have got an early goal and cruised the rest of the game getting 2 or 3 more. You can't draw any conclusions from considering hypotheticals on those levels though, swapping Berbatov for Hernandez or vice versa in either half means you have an entirely different game.

Bang on as usual.

Good to see Berba getting some game time though and three big, big points, I don't care how they go in.

3 class strikers and a good striker will set us up well for the run in, Owen could well nick us an important goal before the season's up too.

Must admit, that was my exact thought. Somehow you just knew Berba wouldn't have the legs to go clear. Little Pea would have burned him off only to be brought down in the box with a wild lunge from behind. At which point the ref would have waved play on.

What says Hernandez would have been on the end of that ball through? Highly unlikely they'd make the exact same runs.

People are still calling him 'the fastest player at World Cup'? Really? Wasnt Sol Campbell marked down as one of the fastest players in the league as well last season? Do me a favour. You cant be the quickest player in the tournament if Aaron Lennon is in the same competition. Unless your names Theo Walcott.

What Hernandez has, is great accelleration. I wouldnt fancy many players in the league beating him over 15 yards, but anymore than that and theres probably a few in our squad that would beat him.

Name them then?

Great thread on him on Arsenal Mania. It's rare for them to praise anything United over there without a "but"

Arsenal Mania - Forum - View topic - Javier Hernandez - Chicarito

That's a great read actually. I completely agree with some of the comments on there, Chicharito suits us perfectly, playing off the shoulder, making intelligent runs and being clinical in front of goal. With Wenger's insistence that every player makes clever link up, 1-2s etc, I don't think he'd function as well. Having said that, a clinical goalscorer like Hernandez, free from all the interplay outside the box, at the head of Arsenal's front line, would be pretty deadly.
