Can you buy into his 0 in assists? He isn't the best of passers but then again, we bought him for the goals. Incredible knack of being in the right place at the right time, his finishing will only get better and better too, frightening.

Well he definitely doesn't have one in the league...10 matches, 4 goals. Stats are from PL.com, and those are official.

We haven't exactly been scores a ton in the CL...so it makes sense, and he's only made two appearances in the Carling Cup.

He isn't the best of passers

He's hardly amongst the worst. I've been impressed with some of his link-up play, and he even spreads the ball out well sometimes to bring the wingers into the game.

Thankfully, the things that he isn't great at can be improved well by spending time with our training staff, which he is doing.

Berbatov - all competitions
13 starts
2 subs
7 goals
2 assists
1 winner and 2 first goals

Hernandez - all competions
8 starts
8 subs
7 goals
0 assists
3 winners and 2 first goals

The boy has done good all things considering.

Rooney - all competitions
5 starts
3 subs
1 goal
3 assists
0 winners, 1 first goal (penalty)

You forgot Rooney.

There's something about this kid that reminds me of Henrik Larrson in that brief spell he had for us.

In the summer I thought 10 goals would be a great return in his first season. He has done very well to settle down so quickly.

You do realise we started selling our best players to Real Madrid long before the takeover?

Sure I do, and Fergie was happy to let them go with perhaps the exception of Ronaldo.

What I am saying is that we're in a weaker position now when it comes to holding on to players thanks to the debt.

 A fully-fledged member of the foil hat brigade, I see.

Everything must be about the debt.

New player, relate it to the debt, he will be sold to Real and the money paid off the debt.
Higher season ticket prices, money going to pay off the debt. More money for fat owners.
No pies on a Saturday at the game, it's because of the debt, can't afford them. Fat owners messing the club up.

Can't some people just talk about a subject other than their biased sodding debt and owners discussion.

Hernandez has been cracking this season, that's what counts. It's amazing how people can bring the Glazers into anything just to go on about how they hate them.

Long may Chicharito continue, I see Rio is tweeting about him. Looks like he is fitting right in.

Great post, I tip my hat to you Sir.

And he also is a wonderful cheat who wins his team penalties. He's had a good impact. The Arsenal fans for some reason were criticising him a lot after the Spurs game.

where does this fit in with united

Just seeing how 2 new strikers at Arsenal and United were doing. I think both Chamakh and Hernandez have done well for their respective clubs.

I think Chamkh will end up getting about 18 goals and Hernandez about 15 which are both good returns for their first seasons in a new club and a new country.

I think Chamakh will get more than just 3 more than Hernandez considering he starts every Arsenal game while that won't be the case necessarily with Chicharito.

Hernandez has 7 goals at the moment and if he gets 15 at the end I will be impressed. Yes we know goals alone are not the only measure of a striker but its a good indicator.

Any chance Hernandez could win young player or has Bale got that one sealed?

Why is that? If they didn't want to leave, I doubt SAF would let them go.
Are you in the 'we have no money' camp?

Given the amount of football still to be played I'll be a little disappointed if Hernandez only gets 15 for us seeing how he's started the season with not even half of it gone

You have to keep in mind though that with Rooney back he is likely to see less game time.

Not given the way Berbatov has been playing, then there's the Carling Cup, FA Cup remaining Champions League games (should be an excuse to rest players against Valencia if we beat Rangers). I think Hernandez will get plenty of football to hit at least 20 goals for us this season

Berbatov is not playing well true but I still think Fergie will go for him and Rooney in the vast majority of games and Rooney alone in the bigger games, if we get a good FA Cup run though maybe Chicha can hit the 20 mark.

Another tidy finish again on Saturday and could and probably should have had another one. He can sure finish, just hope he improves his general play. Either way, fantastic start to his United career.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has likened Javier Hernandez to Denis Law for his heading ability.

Hernandez has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign for the Old Trafford outfit so far, netting seven goals in 18 appearances.

The Mexican’s first against Stoke that really caught the eye, though, as he rose in the penalty area, then delivered a back header with enough force to power it past Thomas Sorensen.

For such a physically slight individual, it was an amazing effort, that Ferguson feels deserves comparison with the best exponents.

"He has got the spring but he also has the ability to just hang there for a second or two, just like Denis Law and Ian St John.

"Some bigger players had great ability in the air but it is that talent to hang in the air for a fraction that can upset defenders."

That's one of the most rewarding comparisons Ferguson would make. He holds Law in outstanding esteem

It's one of those old bollox cliches though, unless they can defy the laws of physics.

In reality it just means the ability to head the ball when you're just on the way down from your jump, a skill a lot of players don't have. Difficult to defend against if it's done well as the striker being up in the air between the defender and the ball makes it next to impossible for the defender to get anything on it. Once your player has a jump on you and has the flight of the ball you're struggling.

Who pissed in your cheerios? it's a way to describe how some players are able to seemingly stay in the air through the way they jump / contort whatever better than others.

A bollox cliche is responsible for probably several hundred million, if not billions of dollars in sales of merchandise - Air Jordan got his name from this old bollox cliche.

I think it is more, you can jump really high so you do stay in the air longer. This saying is hardly the sole property of football, so ya I'm pretty sure it just refers to how high you can jump since how long you stay airborne is a function of how far off the ground you propel yourself ;p
