Jamie Vardy | One journalist's silly example of someone United could sign on a free this summer but probably won't because he has the wrong profile

What's Kevin Phillips up to these days?
Don't be silly. Vardy is a premier league winner, broke Ruuds record, and has had consistently excellent seasons year after year. He's older is the only thing but less a piece of work.

If you're comparing him to Phillips that's just being unnecessarily mean. Plenty of other transfer rumors that are actually that bad

Pretty sure he's just innocently asking what he's up to these days?

Incident with Rafael, taunting fans (sometimes it is too much) and his wife selling stories of other players (including his teammate) to tabloids.
I don't give a flying fi about his wife. the rafael thing is down to the ref - one of the worst bits of referring in the PL era

Fake news
According to Whitwell and The Athletic, he’s being considered as a free agent this coming summer.

Just how fecked are United?

Mod edit: read this post for the actual situation.

We’d be getting a premier league winner and a notorious goalscorer and people are still complaining
Whitwell says that we’re interested in DCL too. I mean I’d take him on a free as a back-up as he’s better that what we have at the minute I think, however, the Vardy link is bewildering — should have singed him 7-8 years ago.

I don’t mind if he’s a cheap squad player, he’s a good finisher and still quite quick but this can’t be the actual plan for CF surely?

Feck that. January free / cheap move to limp through the season? Whatever. If we haven't got a better plan than washed up freebies for the Summer though we are truly in trouble.

Didn't Nice have a bunch of freebie journeymen at one time Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley etc.

Granted RB had a renaissance at Luton

If that’s the thinking then I’ll not be surprised if we pick up other freebies such as pogba
Vardy, Pogba, Kimmich, Messi, Verratti all out of contract this summer, the ghost of Woodward will have one final push on transfers.

I can only hope the hierarchy have concluded that both Hojlund and Zirkzee need replacing.

Hence we’re looking to bring in more than one striker.

Hence looking at some freebies.

If he’s the only striker we’re looking at, then we’re fecked. Thing is you wouldn’t put it past this club. :(

Groundhog Day at Manchester United.

If this happens, I will have a proper laugh, nuke my account, and move on from this sport. If this is INEOS's grand plan, then please, just fold the club and call it day. No need to disgrace the memory of it any further.

Vardy won’t be the main striker signing this summer. Clear and obvious

I actually want this to happen. Just because it would be so funny if he actually scores 20+ goals for us next season. (And we still finish 13th)

Vardy was up there with the best PL strikers, especially in big games, during his somewhat late peak. Fantastic PL striker, but this obviously comes several years too late

I feel like he kind of deserves to play for a big club. He's a future hall of famer (sorry grandads). 38 years old though.

I'm not being funny but surely there would be better options available than a man close to 40 years of age.

Better, yes, but cheaper? I sense that cost (or, ideally, lack thereof) will be the driving force behind most of United's business in the next couple of summer windows, until the financial ship is righted. Keep net spend as close to zero as possible for the next two years and United should be able to clear the bulk of their transfer debt and improve their PSR position.

We don't create enough chances for Vardy to do that. Both he has been without doubt a top striker.
