Jamie Carragher

Any reputable news sites or is it click bait trash designed to get views?

Define reputable I guess, online is just one big clickbait fest anyway.

Likes of Mirror, Sun, Daily Mail etc so not just the sports sites.

We need to make a list of other potential jokes Carragher will make in the future:

"I still think we can win the league. My hope is still alive!"
"Unlike your dog who died last week!"
"I don't think Manchester United can make Top 4 this season"
"Unlike your mother, who is among the top 4 fattest in the world"

Because this hasn't happened in a vacuum. The show's whole shtick is that they banter with each other, it's not like it's a serious show and he's said this out of nowhere.

He definitely crossed a line but all the calls for him to be sacked for it seems a bit over the top.

Maybe if this was an isolated incident but he has a history of spitting at children so multiple cases of unacceptable behaviour warrants him being sacked.

The vacuum part is irrelevent - even if it's a show based on "banter", crossing that line should rightfully be noted and discussed - which is what happened here.

As for calls for him to being sacked, they are (from this thread alone) marginal at best (how many posters actually said this?), so if your point regarding an "overreaction" relate only to this... then no, there hasn't in general been an overreaction.

On tonight's show:

Carragher "that was a great goal, really well defended but you can't argue with the brilliance of the finish"
Kate "you're spitting facts there Jamie

There were a couple. It seems I overreacted

Literally every clip I've ever seen of that coverage is some sort of joke at the expense of one of the panel. The whole set up seems designed for them to pull out TikTok/Instagram clips that can go viral, so it's not surprising that we've reached a point where someone has crossed a line with a joke.

Micah Richards has said that they're given more freedom "to be themselves" on CBS than when they work for Sky/BT/whoever. As it transpires, Carragher being himself is Carragher being a massive tosspot.
Yeah the show is deliberately contrived for social media engagement. Only a matter of time before someone went too far and it was always going to be Carragher.

It’s not a joke. He very clearly sees red after the loyalty joke (which is hilarious how that would offend you)

He is visibly angry, it comes out, and then he tries a big laugh when he realizes what he has said.

When things like Liverpool losing, Arsenal winning and being called “disloyal” have you visibly losing your composure, it’s time for intervention.

You might say “you don’t even know him”, but I also don’t know anyone who spits on children over a football result. He needs anger therapy.

That clip is painful to watch

It actually is, I watched it once and then went back a second time because people commented on Micah’s reaction, but I can’t bring myself to watch it again

Do you not see the difference between fan discussion and an ex-player talking from a supposed position of experience?

I see both for what they are. Opinions.

Ex player Carragher argued that Martinez is too small to be a Premier League defender and many fans agreed. Other fans argued that Martinez his height wasnt a problem. Who was right?

It’s Carragher that has humiliated himself so I could watch it on repeat.

Absolutely no surprise that out of the the four it would be Carragher that took a joke too far.
He’s literally ‘that guy’ of a group. You know the guy, gets too comfortable making jokes then says something dodgy.

I don't understand why he even said that. Has she cheated on him before or something? If not, I'm struggling to understand why he said it.

I couldn't get myself to watch that more than once...it's way too embarrassing

I doubt it, I doubt there’s even a shred of truth in it. It was probably just the first thing that popped into Jamie’s little mind and he thought it would sound funny so he went for it.

Having watched it, I can't come to any other conclusion than the immediate dismissal of Micah Richards

He is a knob, loves to go along with the banter as long as he is the one giving it.

Never forget the banter “2-nil Jamie” resulted in him spitting in a kids face.

Pretty weird to say something like that if there is no truth in it. If you're going to try and make a joke like that, it has to be true, and the audience needs to know about the cheating that took place. It would still be inappropriate to say if it were true, but I could understand it in that scenario.

I guess that's the end of him trying to be funny on TV.

What does he even say? “Not to who??” I can’t make it out.

Nowt will happen. He spat on kids and kept his job.
