Come and get me, Fergie! £30m-rated Porto ace Rodriguez eyes Manchester United move
Manchester United have been put on red alert after Porto ace James Rodriguez issued a come and get me plea to the Barclays Premier League champions.

It is understood that German giants Bayern Munich have also being paying close attention to the sought-after Colombia winger.

But the £30million-rated 20-year-old has declared his ambition to play at Old Trafford, putting United in pole position to sign him this summer.

'I am only focused on Porto at the moment but I could not reject to play for Manchester United. It would please me,' said Rodriguez, in an interview with native newspaper Nuevo Estadio.

Rodriguez has impressed in Portugal this season with 12 goals in 21 league games helping Porto top the table - form that will undoubtedly encourage United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Oh I feel free, just normally I can find one already, this is the first time I coudn't.

His name keeps popping up, it seems we are watching him closely so wont be surprised if he was one of our signings this summer.

My only question is....do we need another winger?

Is this in your mind or do you have a source?

No source but a few sites incl twitter keep mentioning we've been watching him and that we have first refusal...

So Gambit & Brwned

His basic stats look good but is he any good?

The Mail and the MEN are running with the story, claiming that Ando will be going the other way.

Thought he was more an attacking midfielder then winger? Bit like Hazard who can play either.

Really looking forward to seeing him play but I'll never find the time to watch any more than 1 game from the Portuguese league a season.

To me he's in the same mold as Kagawa, his primary skill is his dribbling but he has enough talent and creativity to pull off wonderful passes. But I wouldn't say it's his specialty so as a central midfielder it would be interesting. He does have a knack for scoring goals so why waste him sitting back in central midfield?

We've mainly used James as a winger, though I don't think that's his best position. I think he has the skills to play at AM or in the hole, and he usually tries to drift into those positions anyway.

He dribbles well, has a good pass and shot on him, and is very intelligent for his age. Very composed finisher as well. Not very fast (not slow either, just average) and doesn't help much in defending.

I don't think this is the proper moment for him to leave though. Another season here and he would get first team football every game and probably be the star in our team, as Hulk is likely to leave. He still has some limitations, mainly that he seems to do A LOT better when coming off from the bench than when he's a starter.

He's already a better player than Gaitan and 4 years younger. Our best scorer in the league this season and a good number of assists.

Some rumours here discussing the possibility of a deal involving Anderson, which I would hate as I don't see much future in Anderson any more and I think James Rodríguez can soon be worth the full value of his clause (45 million euros).

From the very few times I've seen him, looks like a good intelligent player who comes infield from the flanks like how Nasri and Silva did against us. If Hazard goes to City then I wouldn't mind him here as a cheaper alternative. Midfield is the main priority but a player like this could help our attack create through the middle and help us hold the ball in tighter games despite playing wide rather than cm.

Could you tell us a bit more about the Gaitan comparison?

In terms of playing style they're not very different, they occupy the same position in the pitch, i.e., they've both been used as wingers and both can play as AM (and are probably better at it).

Thing is, Gaitan seems to have stagnated a bit and is much less consistence than James. In his moments of brilliance he is certainly as good as James but these "moments" seem to come far less often, he had a far less productive season. James is consistently improving every season, unlike Gaitan. He can (not saying he will, but he certainly seem to have the potential, with such maturity at only 20 years old) become one of the best players in the world.

On the other hand, and for all the above reasons, James will probably be a more expensive option than Gaitan, certainly 10-15ish million euros more.

Sounds promising. I remember reading that Carlos Valderrama believes he can become a central midfielder in the future, or at least play there for Columbia.

I've almost decided that this is my Muppet choice for the summer. He's said all the right things about coming here and he's very much under the radar compared to players like Hazard, whilst it seems we're following him closely. Sounds like the type of signing we'd make. Plus he's still only 19.

Cheers for that Arruda, hope you visit here more often, it's nice to have a view from Portugal in here.

Anyway, I've heard that James has quite a wand of a left foot; crossing, shooting , hype or true?

Are there any genuine central midfielders playing in Portugal who we should be interested in?

What has happen to the two wonderkids and eventual legends in FM, Veloso and Moutinho? And there's another who used to turn up for Everton, Fernandes or something?

Yes, he has a very good passing range and shoots very well. He has an extreme composure in front of goal for a 20 year old, very rarely wastes a chance.

These are my favourite finishes from him, the Benfica one specially because it was a high-pressure game and that goal basically put us in the title run again. He slots it as calmly as if it were in training.

Obrigado :)

What's his style like, dribbler or playmaker?

From what I've seen, Witsel looks an interesting player. Tall, skillful, mobile, tricky. Could be our answer to Toure.

Obrigado :)

Yeah I'd like to know too. What is his dribbling like?

Manchester United are willing to offer up Anderson in order to land James Rodriguez, dubbed the ‘new Ronaldo’, from Porto this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Rodriguez is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe, with the Colombian winger playing 24 times and scoring 12 goals to help Porto win the Primeira Liga title.

The 20-year-old fits the bill for Manchester United as they continue to invest in young talent, however the talented youngster’s proposed £25 million fee could be an issue for manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who is always keen to find value in the transfer market.

A solution to the problem may have been found, with United ready to offer Anderson back to his old club as part of a player-plus-cash deal, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The Brazilian midfielder has featured in just 11 games for Manchester United this season and has been out of action through injury since January as his career at Old Trafford continues to underwhelm.

Having cost £18 million from Porto in 2007, United would have been hoping for a greater return on their investment, and are now willing to cut their losses with him in order to make the deal for Rodriguez happen, it is claimed.

Reports suggest he could leave the club at the end of the season regardless of his part in a move for Rodriguez.

The Manchester-based paper also reports that Ferguson has his eye on another young talent attracting interest from around Europe, Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa.

Ferguson has sent scouts to monitor the 23-year-old, who has told the Bundesliga champions he wants to play in England next season

Yes, so we buy the "new ronaldinho", and then trade him back to the same club we bought him from to sign the "new ronaldo"
They really need to stop doing these labels, it never helps. Also it makes no sense that we would trade a central midfielder, considering how weak we are there already for yet another winger, a position we are well stocked in.
