Every year it seems we're in for another number 10 while neglecting other more glaring holes in the squad. This summer is no different.

Personally hate this move. Was hoping we would move towards more pace as we seem to insist on counter attacking. Seems more like this is the best deal we could get for De he's rather than mourinho really wanting him over other players. Will likely be on 250k too.

On the other hand, since we can't really sign griezmann now it might mean serious cash to out to work on the defence and defensive midfield. Probably spells the end for Herrera as a starter but guess we have to trust mou on this stuff.

This is said about all the big names we sign, but not even Pogba commands such wages. Pogba was purported to be earning around £300K at the time of his signing. Zlatan is a different scenario since he came on a free transfer, for a single year (+1 maybe).

I don't think James is in any position to demand those wages.

Not sure why everyone is assuming that this is the only player we are going to sign...

Looks like my bernardo silva dream is dead. :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ladbrokes have suspended betting on him signing for us.

Have to say I have a really bad feeling about this one, like a lot of people on here. Just feels like we're continuing the scattergun Galactico policy which created such a mess under LVG.

Hopefully this is the rationale:
  • Our current No.10 is leaving, freeing up 300k a week from the wage bill. James will replace him while saving on the wage bill.
  • He's a huge name in South America and has been bought as a gift to the marketing team. We need to consolidate the Latin market after years of under-achievement.
  • Mourinho's still got a full budget to rebuild the squad - this is simply a commercial move that doesn't affect the coaches' transfer strategy.
  • We're unlikely to play with a No.10 in a lot of games anyway (Pogba will play AMC), so Rodriguez will simply be a glorified bench-warmer who plays in the smaller games.

We are lacking goals and scored only 51 goals in the league and you are thinking we only need a striker in the front row ?

This summer should bring at least 2 attacking players who can SCORE, other than this forget next season too.

We lacked goals for multiple reasons. 1)Mikhi didn't play in the first months 2) Martial was out of form until maybe now 3)from our cms only Pogba and Herrera are capable of playing attacking football etc. As I said James is an upgrade to Mata. We should upgrade Lingard, Fellaini, Smalling and Darmian first.

I personally think he'd turn out to be a good signing provided we are able to play him in a system that suits him.

irrelevant. Means nothing

Not sure why many think he is purely #10. He played in midfield 3 and also as winger for Madrid. All top teams play with fluid systems, players don't play or stay in one position all the time. They will move all over the place. For example in PL Spurs play with Eriksen and Alli behind Kane and the width is provided by full backs.

What we are lacking is movement off the ball, players making the runs and attacking the ball in the box rather than waiting for the ball to come to them.

he's one of those players that doesnt excite. and the fee is mental. For 25-30 id take him. 50? no

Pogba ?

And I'm all out for enforcing more offense much more important than having a world class GK in a team who can't score to save his life.

DDG obviously, our best player for the last four years, which is surely an indictment on our attack in that period. Pogba maybe a world class price, but has hardly being producing world class performances this season.

I still pray its not true and we go for silva. I think signing him means someone else gets bernado silva, If that is city well feck it.

Fecking hell, a glorified bench warmer. I bloody hope not. He's far better than you seem to think he is.

Even when Mikhi joined the team we were still missing chances and winning barely by one or 2 goals. We weren't scoring enough as any top team.

The thing you're missing that our current offensive options aren't natural goalscoring players. They can create hell of chances but scoring them isn't their best attribute, hence we get what we get this season: team creating a lot but never scores.

Some posters live in the past when we were a force. Turning your nose on James. Who would have thought.
Past are the times in which players played in just one position.
Also obsession with pace.its not about raw place in the sense you just let your players run wild but the movement with the ball. Our movement with and without the ball is too slow and if James will help with that then it's good.

Pogba is a world class no matter what. He has been unfairly judged based on his price that makes people count every wrong pass from him.

And as I said, Having a world class GK in a team who can't score isn't going to make you win anything. I'll trade anything to get a team who scores easily 3 or 4 goals per game.

Don't really want him. Good player but he's not exactly what we need and can't see him pushing us to that next level. Still think we need proper wingers.

  • He's a huge name in South America and has been bought as a gift to the marketing team. We need to consolidate the Latin market after years of under-achievement. when has this ever happened? And don't bring Dong into this, he cost about £12.50 and was hardly a massive name
  • Mourinho's still got a full budget to rebuild the squad - this is simply a commercial move that doesn't affect the coaches' transfer strategy. makes zero sense...we'd never recoup what we spent on him even if we just whore him out to South America full time to go round door to door getting people to support United
  • We're unlikely to play with a No.10 in a lot of games anyway (Pogba will play AMC), so Rodriguez will simply be a glorified bench-warmer who plays in the smaller games.you don't pay £40m+ for a bench warmer

Would he take a pay cut to move do you think? Players like that don't usually take pay cuts. He's on 200k now I'd say although obviously don't know. Either way I'd say we are looking at 200, regardless of what pogba is on.

Deals are structured anyway and pogba seems to have it heavily loaded on loyalty fees etc
