Was just thinking that very thing, then my heart stopped and I gradually turned feint. This must never happen.

Agreed. If you think Owen for Nunez was a bad deal for us back in 2004 it will be nothing compared to this. If you have to sell De Gea to them it better be for Bale or Isco.

Not even Chinese clubs would be mad enough to pay 80 million for him.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Having an endless budget coupled with with sheer desperation for big names is a dangerous combo.

Terrible sources, but thanks nonetheless. If it's true it sounds like someone who's frustrated by his lack of minutes and it could easily be solved by another manager. A football player in a speeding incident isn't peculiar either. Think he's absolute class and if he's being played regularly, he's going to perform.

I think he'll end up in the Premier League this summer. Not sure if I'd want him at another club helping or improving them. I think he would improve Arsenal and Liverpool for example. We're a long way off Bayern/Barca/Real level and it's gonna take a while to get there (if ever) so one or two of their fringe players might be handy to us.

I would hate to lose De Gea to Real for many obvious reasons, but as part of a swap deal for Bale? Well, that's another matter entirely. It would be impossible to turn down. Bale, from a personal perspective, would be my dream signing for the summer. Yeah, I'm well aware that I'm clutching at straws.

A big fat no from me.

This.

He's a soft lad, another one for the Spice Boy club who would flop in the PL. We really shouldn't do this.

There's a certain type of signing that has started to become a bit of a staple under Woodward - though I don't think it's Woodward's fault...

Woodward can only be prepared to splash the cash, which he has done with aplomb, but the lack of a DOF, or, I guess better scouting has lead to a bunch of big money players being signed who are mentally/physically soft, and don't have the consistency of performance, or the grit to make it in the PL let alone at Man Utd...

di Maria
Falcao
Memphis
To a degree Pogba - clearly mentally weak, very high 'Spice Boy' tendencies
Mkhi too, while better than all the others, is famously fragile mentally and is soft physically

James Rodriguez would without doubt end up in this list.

Don't do it.

Although I wouldn't touch James with a barn pole you lost me at Pogba and Micki.

Yes it's hardly 'crime of the century' stuff; allegations last year that his lifestyle was not exactly compatible with a career as a professional athlete, and, more-recently, signs of irritation/impetuousness re. his lack of football. He may do (very) well elsewhere when he moves. Replacement for Dybala if Barca make a move, perhaps.

Nope

Doesn't Mourinho prefer the 'Willian type', so what role would he give James?

Wasn't that just for the one season which prompted Real to sign him ?

Scored a similar amount in his 2 seasons of regular football at Porto too. He's good for 10-15 goals a season, maybe more.

Exactly what we're looking for, a creative attacking player who can score, I think he would thrive at Old Trafford.

Can someone post the abligatory YouTube comp and be done with it.

He's a top player.

I think people are comparing him to Di Maria stylistically - which I think is even more absurd. Di Maria's a brilliant dribbler, and creatively a gunslinger (tries a lot, some of it works - most doesn't) and generally a poor goal scorer. James is more efficient, probably not as creative and definitely not as good a dribbler but much more capable in front of goal.
Fair point. Just disagree Di Maria is more creative. He's more industrious. Problem with James is that he doesn't get involved, imposing himself enough. Perhaps due to having to play second fiddle to so many players? In a team, he's closer or be the main play maker, perhaps he would get involved more thus his creativity can affect game more?

James would prefer a team that may not be in the CL next season? I wonga why?

Its a big yes please from me. :D
Already won the CL. Must fancy winning the EL ;)

He would be a terrible signing for us at the moment, he's a luxury player and not the type of player to sort our needs right now. Silk hat on a pig and all that.

Madrid want to sell him more than anyone wants to buy him at the price they want to sell. They probably want to raise money to sign de gea so it will be self damaging. Id take him at 30 million max and if we dont get anyone else. Last on my list.

But James is not that much of an upgrade on Mata as a winger. I mean James is not fast for a winger. Getting James would mean we wouldn't go for Griezmann and I prefer the latter.

James will be better than Mata as a winger. Mata is the classical number 8 (in the old traditional definition of a number 8). The problem is that James could be underutilized if he is played as an out and out winger.

I don't think both can be classified as winger, or any good playing too wide. James played a wide play maker, which is similar to David Silva, Ozil at Bremen. James is more influential in play making than Mata while arguably also offer similar goal threats, final ball.

Doesn't Mourinho prefer the 'Willian type', so what role would he give James?
Mourinho likes a proper traditional no 10 too, which I believe James can be that. Willian type is a winger Mourinho would use to offer balance for the team where either no 10 or the other winger ain't the type working hard enough in defensive phase. Di Maria Ozil Ronaldo comes to mind (Benzema had to chip in in work rate too since Di Maria couldn't alone offset 2 players lack of defensive workrate)

They're both quite clearly mentally weak, soft players, to the point that it's effected us getting what we paid for from them.

With Mkhi I addressed that he's a better player than the others, and I want him at the club. But if you wanna do the whole 'stopped reading as soon as you said something I don't agree with', that's fine, good luck.

This type of signing though has become 'a thing' in recent years. It's a problem that should stop ASAP.

I wouldn't mind James, but not for the price Real will try to recoup on him.

Yes

Then again, a few weeks into the season and Mourinho will throw him under the bus

That one is written in the stars, particularly since he isn't a training pitch player, at least he wasn't at Monaco.

Explanation please.

He was on Ranieri's bad book because he was slacking on the training pitch and wasn't defending enough, he improved the latter with Ancelotti if I'm not mistaken.

What happened to him anyway? I thought he was excellent for Madrid during their 20 game win streak under Ancelloti. He was creative, worked really well with Kroos, Modric & Isco and did a fair bit for them defensively to make that midfield work.
Different factors: Benítez and the confidence in a midfield more balanced with Casemiro, The subsequent good work of Casemiro while the BBC was still untouchable (he played a lot because of Bale's injuries, and Modric?).
Cocky statements in the Colombian press about his lack of minutes, night life while his wife was in Colombia and he had a couple of injuries.
Some periodists said that he had a depression.
I remember a match last season against Atlético at home. Zidane was in his worse moment and trusted Isco and James.
They both played an awful match. After that day he lost all Zidane's confidence.
According to other periodists Zidane thinks that is too slow for European football and can't hold well the pressure when he has the ball.
He had some more chances playing with the "B team" and didn't impress.
However Isco used better his minutes (especially against Atlético in Calderón).
He has a great left foot and probably would be great in a 442 in a diamond or in another system where he doesn't have to defend (Colombia NT).
He looks more focused lately and probably Zidane has been a bit unfair with him.
Still today there are a lot of Madridistas in Marca,Twitter, forums etc defending his quality and place in the team (perhaps many Colombians )

I hope not, Ive never been a big fan of his to be honest. I remember the year he made his name at the World Cup and Real Madrid went in big for him

Since then, he has never really managed to re-create that form and from what I've read his attitude and off field antics stink. We already have enough rubbish at the club that we need to get rid of, last thing need is another 60m+ plastic bag.
