James Rodriguez| Is considering his options

But James wouldnt go to Spurs in a million years.

Wages and transfer fee way more than they can afford with new stadium to pay for.

So do Everton but it doesn't mean he's going there.

The issue isn't what they need. It's that James Rodriguez to Tottenham is nowhere near a realistic transfer.

Not sure what their wage bill appetite is, but I don't think they're capped anywhere different to Arsenal? Could be wrong though.

If I'm not mistaken Arsenal are one of the biggest wage payers in English football and Spurs are considerably behind.

I wouldn't mind him on the condition that he is played as nr 10 and Mourinho builds the rest of the team around that. Else we shouldn't bother. I think he is a better 10 than anyone we have in the team and has the talent to be the best 10 in the PL.

Valencia-----Bailly-------Rojo--------------Shaw

Mkhitaryan--------James---------------Martial

I'll not say not no to that

Why would Arsenal give to Rodriguez what they reportedly don't want to give to Sanchez or Ozil?

Surely Rodriguez wouldn't expect the same sort of wages he is on at Real? It was a serious fluke he was offered that pay package in the first place.

If he's just after the money he'll go to PSG/China as the sole suitors, but I'd like think he has a bit more ambition than that.

Hes a good player, but no world class or galactico level. After his good wc he was the ideal new shinning toy for real Madrid and they overpayed, but it was pretty obvious he wasnt going to be a madrid "10" legend.

His best destination is todays serie A, i think he would shine there helping an italian giant making their comeback to europe elite

Do not want for united tho

He will lower his wage for a club willing to build around him, Arsenal won't do that since they don't need him. So why would Arsenal give him a big wage and why would he lower his wage significantly to be in competition with Ozil?

If Arsenal are resigned to losing Sanchez (which in time they will be) could be a direct replacement?

But why spend that money on Rodriguez when you can do it on Sanchez? That's the question, if they are not willing to do it for their best player they are not doing it for someone else.

Couple things with Sanchez - does he not want a price thats greater than what James would be introduced to at Arsenal? And whilst it could be bullshit, he also specified his reasons for considering a move being down to club performance.

James just seems to want to play and be valued. Arsenal could well suit him.

Not sure where he will go.

Maybe Arsenal will go for him. It's realistic.

Spurs' top paid player in on £100k a week max. It's completely unrealistic to put them in the mix.

Maybe PSG.

Without image rights, he is supposed to earn 7.7m per year.

What makes you think Spurs could afford 70m on a single transfer fee? As for wages no one in their squad will be getting close to the type of wages he'd be getting offered at PSG/Chelsea etc. James to Spurs is pretty ridiculous.

Wouldn't have taken him at the start of the season, as he would have been coming into a squad with no cohesion (complete disarray). Now that we've settled down, I'd be completely in favour of this transfer. He could compete for Rooney's spot, and if he flops, he flops, but he has undeniable talent. It's just a consistency issue with him.

James. His wage plus the transfer fee make little sense for Arsenal, Draxler is a more obvious option.

But he's not going to realistically command the same wages anywhere else, and its apparent that playing is more important than wages for him.

Draxler would be a massive downgrade to Sanchez. Really don't rate him.

I'd have him. I don't care if it didn't work out and we wasted 70 odd million. I don't care if it ruined his career. I just don't care about these things anymore. It would look mint to have to him in our starting 11 with the likes of Mkhi, Pogba, Ibra and if he did flourish here then it would be great for us.

The risks don't bother me anymore as they don't really affect me as much as the benefits would.

Maybe it's a crazy rumor but I also read about a swap,James-Martial.What do you think?

Not remotely the same type of players. Doesn't make sense to either club as well. Can't see a purpose for Real to buy Martial at this point - they have Bale/Ronaldo at the wings so he won't get a game there and Benzema is a much better fit than him to lead the line. He needs games to develop.

As for James I can see him doing well here, he's a bit of primadonna so would require some bedding in but I can see Jose utilizing him well.

Don't get all this 'we don't want' rubbish when he would be an ugrade on Rooney, Mata etc. especially with Depay and Schneiders apparently on their way. People getting a stiff one when Schneiderlin signed and turning their nose up at Rodriguez?? I'm 100% convinced he would be perfect under Mourinho, especially the way we are starting to play. I'd hate him to go to the Chavs.

I don't think we need him personally, but it'd still be concerning if one of our PL rivals got him. He is an excellent player on his day. Hopefully he goes to PSG.

Though I won't be complaining if we do sign him.

Maybe people don't want him because we don't need to replace Rooney and Mata? We need to upgrade our wide options and someone like Bernardo Silva is a better fit than James Rodriguez.

I get that Rooney has his contract and all the sentimentality stuff and he would be difficult to move on, but performance wise he DOES need to be replaced....and James would be a significant upgrade. I would have him over Mata and Rooney anyday. I would argue that if we are losing Depay and Schneiderlin and Carrick is coming to the end, Rodriguez would be a perfect replacement in the squad.

No he doesn't need to be replaced, we don't need him and we don't use him much.

We need someone at the opposite side of Mkhitaryan and that's not James Rodriguez, we need someone to replace Carrick and that's not James Rodriguez, we need to eventually upgrade Herrera and that's not James Rodriguez.

I think that you see where I'm going here.

Herrera's going nowhere. And no, I don't agree but that's just my opinion. People constantly whinge about playing 2 games in 3 days. It's a squad game and the depth could definitely be better. We're still carrying a lot of average players. I don't understand how people can't see that Rodriguez would improve the squad we have currently? People want Griezmann. Where would he play?

I didn't say that Herrera was going somewhere, I'm talking about depth and eventually improving that position.

We played our best football with a midfield three, James Rodriguez doesn't fit that midfield three, he also isn't ideal wide. So it's not about not needing players to add depth, it's about who should be targetted and it's the same problem with Griezmann.

He wouldn't play for us a lot for the same reason he doesn't play a lot for RM. He is a 10, and we play without 10. I thought even the last person understands now that we play best with a 4-3-3 with Pogba being the attacking central midfielder. It's clearly what Pogba is best at, this formation is clearly where we are best at. James wouldn't fit anywhere, nothing else then a big waste of money. We need wingers. The rest was already very good answered by @JPRouve

Rodriguez would not improve our first 11, for everything else he is to expensive. Griezmann would play at RA, just like Messi or Bale, and he is the one we need

Why would anyone not be excited if we were to sign James Rodriguez, unless your name is Juan Mata or Wayne Rooney, that is? He's a bum's off seats kind of player, he's absolutely class if he's played in the right system. He excels on the counter attack, but he has the technical ability to play in a more controlled possession way too. He can also play from the right.

The only reason that I can see to not want him, is the fact that it would probably block any path for Griezmann to join us (if that's even a possibility). Any question marks about temperament or attitude shouldn't be considered. Trust in Mourinho - if he wants him, then great. If he doesn't, then we can move on to other targets or develop from within.
