I don't rate Garner as a top talent or anything but selling him before McTominay is a fecking joke.

Comparing this to Pogba leaving on a free is pointless. Garner has gone out on loan and did alright at a club that got promotion. He’s obviously not shown it in training or he’d be getting his chances.

he was probably outshined by Fred and Mctominay. Anyone would be. McFred are larger than life

Some of the outrage over this is funny. This is what we should have started doing ages ago. Make a quick decision on young players. Do they have it, or no? If no, sell. Don't keep them around to be shit starters or shit squad players like McTominay and Elanga. Just sell them. Put a buy back if you feel they might step up one day. It'll be better for Garner to develop elsewhere and maybe he develops enough that he is good enough to be here. But you can't keep loaning him. Better to sell.
Spot on. We need to do the same thing with Henderson when he returns next summer, and probably at least two of Laird, Pellistri, and Amad.

Pellistri probably yeah. Amad we invested so much in that it's dumb to sell cheap. Laird depends how he does, but if he does well then absolutely should get a #2 RB role to start with here (given our struggles and it being hard to find a good one).

Are you guys feckin thick or what? If we had prime Scholes and Keane, we would care less a decent talent being sold off because he would never get a chance. Well right now our midfield is complete crap and we have one shit player who has played more than he deserves for the past 3 seasons. Garner has shown he's better and more consistent than McT, so why isn't he afforded the same time as McT?

All I want to see is that "ruthlessness" that EtH is supposedly known for. Drop the fecker and play the next midfielder - Garner, Donny, Hannibal, Savage, Zidane, Mainoo, whoever.

Redcafe: sell players we don't need!

Also Redcafe: why are we selling players!?

I would say we do need CMs of any sort of description at the moment. We are honestly one major injury away from a meltdown assuming we only get Rabiot in.

What we don't need are more CBs, FBs and AMFs.

Lots of shite to sell off there.

He hasn't shown that. He hasn't had the chance to tbf. He does deserve a proper shot but if ETH doesn't think he's good enough and prefers Hannibal/Savage/Iqbal instead then that's fine by me.

If ten Hag is happy to sell him then we're obviously getting someone in.

At this moment in time, some people may be baffled as to why we're getting rid, especially having had a promising loan, but I look at players like Iqbal and Savage, and I personally feel they higher ceiling than Garner.

I have zero issue if we sell him - I've honestly never thought he looked good enough. I would throw in a buy back clause, just in case.

Let's be honest, he's had decent games at Forest in the championship but hasn't shown anything near the required level to start for us.

Doesn’t make any sense to me. We have sent him on loan and he did very well there. If we don’t think he is good enough to start yet, the next step should be another loan. The 15m does nothing for us but he can develop into a solid premier league midfielder. If somhow our midfield is stacked with talent, he can be a reserve (yes we need those as well).

There are plenty of other ways to make 15m. For instance, asking DDG to lower his wage to 150 from his current 350K and getting rid of Brandon Williams (who has been tried plenty of times).

I am all for getting rid of non performing players but we should give youth time and a chance. Otherwise we are just a generic club.

yep, fans on here and in general tend to rate players that don't actually play for this team very highly until we actually see them play and then think "oh! so THAT'S why they weren't playing". Seen the anger on here for many years regarding players like Kagawa, Andreas, VdB and it always ends the same way.

EtH sees him everyday in training and if he doesn't think he's good enough at the moment then his judgement is probably correct.

He has shown that last season on loan at Forest. At least he has shown more consistency than McT if he gets games. McT has had a handful of decent to good games so far for each of the last three seasons, two against Leeds. Handful of games out of thirty in a season. I have nothing against McT, but he's not good enough, and at the very least he has been given ample time to prove he really isn't good enough.

Literally every time.

With all due respect McTom would be Stevie G in the championship. I have no doubt about that. Probabably score 15 goals from midfield. Would perform how he did vs Leeds but more frequently. As a striker I think he would so a job also.

Surprised he is allegedly for sale. Said all summer he wasn’t going to go into your first team but was expecting a loan and a Palace level club in all honesty. Was definitely overhyped on here but probably more out of desperation to see an end to McFred more than anything.

Perhaps, a big perhaps, Garner is being sold because United is getting a certain Dutch midfielder from Barca? :o

Sunk cost fallacy. If he turns out to not be good enough, we sell. Doesn't matter if he initially cost us 5m or 500m.

This is frustrating af. Garner being sold and McTominay as a first teamer is just all kinds of wrong.

When? If you’re referring to his time in the Championship then you’re insane. He’s looked average as feck anytime he’s ever played for United. And that’s being generous.

At least try and stick a buyback clause in there if he happens to develop.

The only person this makes space for is Rabiot.

Garner out, Rabiot in with the fee generated from Garner's sale.

This is Manchester United now.

Honestly, everything must come down to what they do in training. McT has been highly rated by all of the 3 last coaches, so he must be doing miracles during the week's training. Maybe Garner is not looking good during the week, hence the idea of selling him is out there.

That's true. But at least I see the reason with persisting. You don't sell on the back in of him losing all his value. He needs to show some promise and something that makes teams want to buy him before we sell him.

Can only imagine he's antsy for game time, and rightly so after playing a lot of football the last 2 years, he's probably 5th choice at most, which seems mad considering who he is up against.

Shame we couldn't see him have a few meaningful games in the first team for us before deciding. Looked decent last season, and seems to have things he's actually good at other than running around.

We don't need midfielders??
He has like 2 apps for us and is nowhere to be seen this season. I think it's fairly obvious we don't plan on using Garner. So instead of doing what we usually do (let players rot on the bench until they completely lose their value), we should cash in. Absolutely no point in keeping him here just to make a couple appearances.

We don't need mediocre mid table midfielders, we are overloaded with those.

Hardly fair to call him a mediocre midtable midfielder when the guy has barely gotten a chance. But you're right, this is what you get when you promote someone like McTominay above their station. We can hardly shift him.

I'd rather we make a Coutinho type of sale and sell someone like Bruno or Rashford for a larger sum of money than a young-ish player with potential. I get that there is no club in the world who'd be crazy enough to pay big money for them but I am so sick and tired of most of these first team players I'd be willing to get 30m for each of them and be rid of both tbh. Sell Ronaldo to Chelsea for 10m. Sell Lindelof for 5m. Sell Shaw for 2m. Sell Martial for 1m. Sell McTominay for a bag of chips and Fred for a pack of gum. I don't really care who we sell as long as they're part of the first team that failed so miserably last season. I'll be glad to see any of them go.

But to sell someone like Garner who's not had a chance and hasn't been involved in the shit show the team has served up the last 4-5 years is just so damned frustrating. What has happened to Manchester United when we're selling a promising academy player that has not been given a chance to make space and funds for someone like Rabiot? This just flies in the face of everything the club I grew up supporting was supposed to stand for.

Annoying but understandable.

If you're a young player who has been sent out on loan to impress, done so, and come back to see absolute shite like McTominay still be the main man, you must be thinking "Feck this."

With all due respect, both of you are overrating McT and underrating the championship, in my opinion

McT has played over a hundred games for United and he’s “average as feck” in at least 80% of his games. He has one world class game against Leeds each season. Honestly, I thought Scott would be one of the players who would respond best to ETH’s coaching and look like a new player, but pre-season and these first two games have shown otherwise, unfortunately. He can’t even control a feckin ball, let alone pass it properly. We’ve seen him at his best(aforementioned Leeds games), but we mostly see him at his worse or near it.

Moreover, Garner is probably the only midfielder we have left who can play the holding role or the deepest midfield role. Hannibal (who has since been allowed to go on loan) can also replace McT’s minutes. Let McT go, we blood two youngsters who, on paper, can probably reach a higher level than McT, they can split his 2000+ minutes. Savage and Iqbal can get some in the cups as well.

McTominay being average as feck doesn’t make Garner a better player. How often have you even watched him?

Have any posters watched full games of Garner at Forest?

These highlight clips are nice and all, but they are highlight clips and most, if not all, are under 2 minutes. Surely one can find more than 2 minutes worth of content in a 90 minute match? Not slamming the maker of the clips, he is very very much appreciated by me for making these reserve and loanee videos.
This post suggests you weren’t watching him.

If we need to sell a young player, then sell Chong (how is he still here wtf), Tuanzebe, Williams or Elanga.

Garner would be the last on my list to sell at this time because of the CM crisis.
