How do you propose we do that? Nobody would want him and his wages are probably double what they should be for his ability.
I'm sure it was reported that Newcastle made a bid this summer? I find it hard to believe McTominay wouldn't have a few suitors, despite how lowly he's rated on here (and by me).

if we are indeed selling Garner to pay for Rabiot, then we really are very, very skint.

We have not even tried to use Garner, this is on ETH, I’m increasingly becoming a non fan of our new united coach, we could at least give the kid a game first with the dross we currently have in our midfield. Mctominay would probably raise £25m if we need cash for transfers.
I would trust a judgement of ETH who sees him train daily rather than the experts on Caf. Ideally both Garner and McT should go, I don't know why people get so attached to our young players so much that it just becomes a blind faith in them turning out good.

There was rumours on the tour he was the one who turned up late and subsequently got dropped.

If true then he's clearly not got on the right side of a new manager. Silly boy.
It was Garnacho wasn't it?

That doesn’t ring true - he was the model pro at Forest and Cooper is a stickler for punctuality. He is also desperate to make it at united so it seems very unlikely he’d be that stupid.

Yeah, would much rather McT being sold, but probably being kept for his physicality and height. Garner does seem to be the better footballer though.

I thought that was Garnacho? He went on tour and didn’t get a single minute, he only played in the game in Norway and OT.Garner was injured.

Shame I thought he was worth a chance, McFred have set the bar so low I can’t see how he can be worse.

£13-£15m is about right - what ever his potential he is a top level champ player untested in the prem. Having said that, for sentiment reasons I’d have him back even if it cost £20m.

The problem is we now have a lot of options in midfield. Mangala and Yatesy as number 8’s, O’Brien and Fueler at 6, Colback and Cafu as back ups. We need a 10 to compete with Lingard and Jimmy isn’t a 10.

I bloody hope he comes home though - my player of the season Last year

Maybe you sell Yates and get back like half the Garner fee? I imagine some Prem team needing CM depth or one of the bigger spending Champo teams would be interested after his strong last season. Garner is only 21 and has no Prem experience and Freuler is 30 so they can split time for a couple years until Freuler leaves and Garner is entering (the early part of) his prime. O'Brien backs up Mangala. Or just have 5 central mids for 2 spots which isn't crazy with injuries and 5 subs now, one of them becomes Lingard's backup and maybe Colback goes back to the Champo to finish his career.

Selling him now while his value is still good makes sense, not playing him for the rest of the season wont do him any good and loan moves can be risky. We should of done this with Mctominay after his first full season, when it was obvious his limitations.

We should be squeezing north of £20m out of Forest for Garner with the way they're chucking money about this summer. If we can't get that much maybe stick a buy back in on the off chance he amounts to something.

I do think this is the right time to cash in though. Garner's stock is relatively high and he still doesn't look close to being ready for first-team football here. We need to learn from previous mistakes with players like Tuanzebe and Henderson.

We also waited for Forest to sign 100 new players before making Garner available. Could have squeezed them for £25m a few weeks ago.

While I'd like to see him given a proper chance, I also haven't been entirely sold when I've watched him. Even at Forest which was a huge success, he seemed prone to being a bit invisible.

In the perfect environment maybe he would flourish but with everything going on and the level of toxicity at the club... sadly it probably is most sensible to cash in.

You throw him in place of McFred and he will flap around like a fish. This guy is not ready for PL level.
We need to buy a fecking ready to use midfielder.

Yeah, agreed on that. I suppose ten Hag wanted to have a look at him first but it's not ideal.

Sell Yates! He’s a club legend - a local lad who joined at 8 years old - and the most dedicated pro around - the lad comes in early to do a gym session and stays late to do one on one training and that’s when he’s injured! He came back for pre-season already match fit. The lad will be at Forest for life and probably manager in 30 years time.

United could do with a few like Yates in your dressing room

The only reason I see to sell him is Ten Hag has been told we need to sell before we can buy. And he's one of our only saleable players, just hope we have a buy back clause.

Why wouldn't he give him a go at least in the 2nd half when the match was over to see if he was capable against premier league teams? Instead we don't even give him a go? Idiotic.

To be fair, we all complain that we hold onto subpar youth products for far too long, ala the likes of Williams, Lingard, McTominay etc. Selling them on while they still have promise for a decent amount, possibly with a buyback clause does seem like the more sensible way of doing things.

Personally I haven't seen anything from Garner to suggest he's the answer in the middle, though would agree he's hardly been given a proper chance yet. If ETH doesn't plan on using him however, this makes sense to me, so long as the money is reinvested in Midfield reinforcements ready to hit the ground running immediately.

Some of our fans really overestimate our academy and academy players. A lot of these lads disappear off the face of the earth once they’re released by us, regardless of how they looked at the youth levels. I think any of them that can hold down a gig playing regularly in the Championship have done really well for themselves.

I think if you get a hypothetical youth squad of 20 boys. 12 of them may as well cease to exist in the football world after they turn 18/19, 5 of them will ply their trade in the lower tiers, 2 of them will be good enough to play in the top tier and maybe just 1 of them is good enough to play for United at the elite tier.

We need to sell more players. Sale of Garner makes total sense, but there are others in midfield who needs to be sold as well.

I don't understand why he hasn't at least been given a game. Would McTominay have been a standout performer for Forest last season? Not sure. It's not like the starters are undroppable and this is not an 18-year-old kid with no first-team experience.

Much rather we sell McT, but I’m not sure he’ll have any takers. Give Garner games and surely he won’t be worse than McT. We’ve already seen he is better and more consistency than McT during his Forest spell.

As bad as McTominay looks in a midfield like ours, he probably would thrive in the Championship. I remember Ben Foster waxing lyrical about him from when McTominay played against Watford in the cup a couple of years back.

We should be selling both of them, though.

Yeah that's annoying - they'd have definitely splashed £15-£20m on him earlier in the window.

Fully on board with his sale... so long as there is a buy-back clause its a win-win.

We should do this with most of our youngsters when they come back from a successful loan (obviously apart from if its really obvious they're ready for the first team)

Savage is better. I think that's probably factoring in to this decision.
How can you possibly come to that conclusion? Savage has had zero experience playing competitive football- Garner was one of the stand out players for a team that got promoted to the Prem

I have watched him in the youth set up and only watched him occasionally when Forest was on the tv. Nice footballer but the only reason I’d want to see him is cause I’m fed up with the current performances….that’s not the right rationale. I think it’s not his time here, the club is too toxic, he needs to find a club that’s going to develop him and that’s not us at mo….

Just make sure to implement a buy back clause like every top team would do

Probably the right decision to sell if we can get a decent fee, so long as we are certain of getting our midfield signings over the line.

Thought he looked mint for Forest last season, would have liked to have seen him given a chance.

If he's not good enough, fair enough. Better to sell now than see him rot on the bench for years. Glazers probably also want to sell to cover the Rabiot fee.

Would rather we sold McTominay, signed two Midfielders and had Garner as fourth choice or out on loan.

We're doing absolutely the right thing as long as we insert a buy back. We're doing what many on here lambasted us for not doing with Henderson
