Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Why are we all certain that this is a club briefing? Isn’t it more likely that one journalist wrote an article and everyone followed as there is nothing going on the trf front. More than happy to be corrected though.

It’ll be the new offer too. I don’t see us going above that. Make that bid official and Sancho pushes for a move I don’t see them rejecting. It’s a very generous offer.
thing is, they've completely backed themselves into a corner. They'll already look really bad if they sell him after saying that'll definitely stay ... if they drop the price as well, media and fans will tear them a new one.

think it'll be the full €120m spread out over two or three years.

It’s on the BBC as well and they don’t ride on anyone else’s tails

When all outlets start reporting the same story at around the same time that means the PR team have briefed the media.

They’ll just paint Sancho as the devil and say they had no choice to sell. And then brag about getting £90m for a 20yr old in a COVID market when the player wanted to leave and go back home.

I don't get all the euphoria here, it's not like anything has changed. F.Romano had those "news" weeks ago.

Dortmund are still adamant that it's €120m or nothing and we don't seem to be willing/able to pay all that in one go this summer.

This actually somehow seems like a desperation attempt, briefing the press in order to show the fans that they're at least trying hard. I sure hope I'm wrong though.

I don’t believe they are truthful but a brief doesn’t buy you time, there’s clearly been a breakthrough and frankly if it’s not the purchase price so it must be the personal terms and agent fees.

That much is clear. Likewise believing every word a journo in Italy says on an English player moving from the German league to the premier league is naive.

No the brief that wages were an issue (when reported a couple weeks ago) was what bought them time. Now they probably reckon they can agree a fee at some point, so they have briefed wages aren't a problem.

In reality it's likely the case that as Romano said, wages were never a problem. That's why foreign journalists are better in this regard - they don't get played by the clubs as easily.

He says things about nothing. So spending 120m on player isn't a "quick fix"?
He's been a target for Ole since March of last year when he took over so wouldn't exactly call it quick

We've also had improved play there from Greenwood but Sancho would provide a more consistent 'fix' there

Absolutely certain they aren't asking for it in one go just want it in guaranteed instalments rather than bonuses (addons)

He says things about nothing. Also, spending 180+m on 3 players last season, 40m on bench player, and 120m on one player are not a "quick fix"?
You're focusing too much on the prices of the players rather than their profiles. Young great players who can only get better.

When even the muppet slayer Howard Nurse is reporting it, you know it’s a club brief...

Why on earth would the club do that and only increase the fan expectation and ultimately the pressure on the club

There’s a lot of irony in this post. What point are you making?

He’s clearly referencing our new recruitment plan to secure young hungry players who want to play for our club, rather than short term fixes like we used to go for.

A quick fix would be getting someone like Perisic. He is old and maybe good for 2 more years. Then we gotta rebuild again. He meant getting good, young players and building for the future even if it means not fighting for the title next season.

I hope he doesn't crumble with that price tag. Its too much money, he will need thick skin because the anti United media will be scrutinizing him every day.

That just sounds like a convenient way to flip the reality of what’s been tweeted by them all thus far in order to (again) protect the fecker.

The club even supposedly gave a certain journo a verbal slap recently for getting ahead of himself, no prizes for guessing who.

I don’t blindly believe briefings but this one is pretty clear cut, even the likes of the BBC.

Even though it's not the deal Dortmund want, the fact that Utd have put a deal together that can "potentially" be 120m euros is very positive. It will probably take a couple of adjustments to that structure and changing the add-ons to installments. This is close!
I think the phasing of payments is what makes or breaks this deal. We simply cant risk/afford too much up front, given the upcoming uncertainty.

Because the club has briefed progress on the deal, meaning that the deal is likely to happen.

If it doesn't happen there will be a great fan backlash. Of course the club would rather want this to die out quietly to avoid that if they weren't sure of making a deal.

This notion of "who want to play for our club" is just bogus, imho. Almost everyone wants to play for the club, if you pay him enough. And he's been buying mature players like Maguire and Bruno. He's also reportedly chasing Joshua King.

Like I said, Ole's just saying nice things about nothing. Nothing wrong with that though.

He’s English though so they will be FAR FAR more lenient on him than they were on Pogba as an example.

Damn - went out for a run and come back to about 30+ new pages and a chime in from every reputable news source going. Looks like it's happening people.

Ok take that to the Ole Out thread then fella.

There’s a clear difference between a player buying into the club and wanting to be here compared to some mercenary just here for the biggest pay check.

Also I’d urge you to look at the shambles of a squad Mourinho left us with and how we shape up with this lad in the starting 11. Night and day.
