Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I am predicting fee agreed with BVB on this Friday, he'll go back to Germany on the weekend to say his goodbyes and clear his lockers. Monday preparation for his unveiling and contract signing, Wednesday official announcement and photos. He'll start on our bench for our first league game. Mark it down lads

There are transfers in footballing history upon which the fortunes of a club pivot massively, and you just know it in that moment because that signing works on multiple levels. Like when United signed Cantona, or Real signed Ronaldo, or Liverpool with Van Dijk, or PSG with Neymar, or City with a manager like Pep.

You just know that this Sancho transfer would be a watershed moment for United, kickstarting the best years since SAF. Everything about this transfer falls in place:
- World-class talent kicking up insane numbers
- Young, hungry and has the attitude that Ole is looking for
- Is an England national and is good mates with many United players
- Fills in the RW hole that has been vandalised by our recruitment since Ronaldo left
- His playstyle complements the slick, link-up based attacking football United have been playing under Ole
- United have a clear run at him in a window where no other club need him enough or if they do, can't afford him
- Is mates with another extremely exciting transfer prospect in Haaland - the Ole/Sancho connection might turn things in our favour in 2022
- We are the most exciting outfit we've been since SAF, just off a tremendous second half of a season looking unplayable at times
- We have just qualified for CL, which we haven't been able to do consistently enough to attract players like Sancho. We have no idea where we'll finish next season as of now.
- Liverpool have just won the league after 3 decades, and we have to choose if we're going to respond to that or if we are content with fighting it out for top four
- Chelsea have arguably had their best summer of the Abramovich era, and City will be getting Messi next summer by the looks of it - we need to show our ambitions

These are just off the top of my head. Point is, signing (or not signing) Sancho this summer will decide if our best season since SAF left is the start of something exciting again, or if it was the moment where we just fell off the races while yet another club overtakes us for good. I genuinely believed this would be wrapped up by early August - not making it happen this summer will be the club management's greatest failure since SAF, and possibly one with long-lasting consequences.

My strong take is that Woodward/Judge should be fired purely on the basis of this transfer happening/not happening.
 
I really want to believe this is happening, but there is fecking nothing but negativity and posturing
 
I don't get it.

Either Dortmund are stoopid for refusing 120 million + variables, or Ed is a liar and Man Utd cannot afford +80 million signings anymore. Or both.

While I'm not a fan off how Woodward has handled the football side of things as it generally been a mess since he took over. But saying he should be fired, for not signing up to pay the largest fee ever paid by a premier league club for a player, in the middle of a global pandemic, when the club's debt is rising sharply when we are likely to have lost 100 + million from ticket sales by the time fans are allowed back in the stadium(not to mention merchandise, overseas tour deals, catering on matchday sales .....) and at the start of what is likely going to be the largest global economic crisis in history (which will likely affect everything from ticket sales to sponsorship deals to merchandise sales) seems a bit daft.

Agree in regards to it being a pivotal signing. Such a big moment but one that I don't think we will take sadly. And like you say, we will pay for it long term.
 
People are seeing what they want to see. When Woodward came out in June and said it's not going to be business as usual do people think we're really going to sign 100m players?. i'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but everything about this transfer says it's not happening. I believe it's a media driven thing all along. Dortmund clearly said they were never in any negotiations with anyone. Not even through intermediaries in addition to two of their executive asserting he's staying. Now obviously they don't have time to buy a replacement.

United have put themselves into a position to say at least they tried. They may have calculated it's better to upgrade LB and midfield than spend all the loot on Sancho. It's very off that Chelsea didn't go for him given their deep pockets.

They were clearly lying!
 
Assuming we ever planned on signing him, why did he sign a new contract mid last season? what poor planning is this on our part for a team that supposedly plans their transfers years in advance.

I do think that this is a valid explanation of how things stand. We have heard from numerous sources that United will not sign a cheque for £100m in this market. Ed had said it, the brief from the club has been the same, Dortmund have said they wont sell, Jadon seems happy there. All roads point to him staying this summer.

From the clubs point of view, this is a media / fan driven signing. Fans will draw comparisons with Dembele, Auby etc but they wanted to leave and forced a move, Sancho has done no such thing.

I think us as fans have gone so far into believing this transfer, we are somewhat deluded that it will eventually happen. Lets see the process and why I think that.

June - Manutd priority, get CL we get Sancho
July - CL more money = Sancho, lets wait till season finishes and we will get him
Aug - Romano and other outlets saying terms are agreed, fans excited
Aug - Dortmund saying no chance he will leave, signed extension, United fans think its a bluff
Aug - After Europa and CL we will sign him.
Aug - After CL we will sign him
Sept - After Internationals we will sign him

You can see the theme, delay delay delay and we will be in October and fans pressure will be targetted at the board / club. The club are clever, they are delaying signings so that fans get hope on Sancho and they will deliver LB and Brooks which will take some pressure off.

How exactly does this take the pressure off? If we got off to a shaky PL start and then briefed we`ve looked at other targets and walked from Sancho the pressure would be even bigger and toxicity levels would be high beyond epic proportions after all the time wasting and ride they`ve given the fans. We`ve had annoying sagas under Woodward but of late if chances of signing a player are never genuine we never waste any time calling it off via the press. Haaland, Dybala and Griezmann the best examples. If this was dead in the water the period to call off things was between the end of the EL campaign and the start of the PL season where there are no expectations and backlash wouldn`t be as severe. Utd are definitely still trying to get Sancho whether we get him is the question but to suggest all this is PR is an extremely high level of cynicism.

There was pressure building on social media a week back, since the VDB signing the pressure has dropped, which is exactly what will happen.

Well, lets see how things progress, I have my doubts about Sancho given all the news coming out of Germany. Dortmund will say you've had all summer, now you want us to sell when we are about to start our season, completely messes with their preparations.

they are under no pressure to sell, the player is not causing any issues so the longer it goes on the less our chances become.

With Dybala, he was never a target and Griezman actually was until he came out and said he is staying. Haaland was a drawn out saga, it was in Jan so the saga was a shorter period.

(Hypothetically) If we get Haaland then what are we doing with Greenwood? Unless we foresee sticking Sancho on the left and keeping Greenwood in the right thereby demoting both Rashford and Martial

He has a release clause of £60m ishh, which means other clubs will be in for him. I am not sure you can trust United doing this deal. They would bid £40m and it would become a saga. Someone like a Real, Juve will just pay the release clause and give the agent more money.

It would certainly take a heavy heart to deal with that situation!

But in that scenario for me I would keep

Strikers - Haaland & Greenwood
Winger/Forwards - Sancho, Martial

If it meant we had to let go of one, it would have to be Rashford unfortunately. For me Haaland is the best striker out of the whole bunch. Sancho is the best winger. Greenwood and Martial are not far behind.

Their season starts this weekend so I'd be surprised to see this transfer go through now if he starts the season. If he's left out at the weekend then I suppose there's still a chance but I think this is off now and it's just the media and transfer muppets pushing it along.

Bastards probably wont to pocket the entire money, hence the delaying tactics. They can then tell their fans "big bad United didn't give us enough time to find a replacement!"
 
Would like to think we will hear something within the next '48 hours' to be honest. The German league cup games start this weekend don't they?

I'm sure it's in both clubs interests to settle this before the league starts.

I think they have enough players to play in various positions upfront. If they are going to go in market now, everyone will know that they are going to let Sancho leave. And that will shorten their hand in this game
