Interesting how today you only need a twitter account, complete the courses called "speaking like fortune teller" and "how to say the obvious but still sound that you know something" at the adult education center to count as a journalist. They make their money for living out of talking BS all day long. The saddest part is that they stil find some people reading their guesses and clicking on it.
You're so right. Even seasoned respectable journos get dragged into the mire

I mean I don't recall him mentioning Sociedad having interest at all.

Seems like he got that completely wrong(D.Silva and Lazio).

Lazios president came out and said he 'rates the player but doesn't respect the man'. Which pretty much tells you that Silva had given him his word on a deal and he went against it.

Deals are not set in stone guys. everything could be agreed and someone can still bail. you want Romano to only report when the fax has been sent to FIFA?

There's only one way this is going, we'll pay the asking price and spin it as much as we can to make it look like we got a good deal. There's no way we walk away from this one, the fan backlash will be on a scale not seen before.

There is a clear pattern of the last few years of the board backing the manager when they are out of the CL and trying to haggle and save when they are in the CL. The fans are not going to be fooled and blame OGS if things go south next season. It's happened too many times for it to continue to be the managers fault. The team needs serious quality investment with a view to win trophies and that means paying what Dortmund are asking for. The investment is worth it in the long run.

You seem to think the glazers care about fan back lash?

What gives you that idea?

Interesting that you can become a member on redcafe by just creating an account, and have an opportunity to make ten shit posts every day without check. The saddest part is that other redcafe members have to read it.

BREAKING NEWS!!!
Sources From within Dortmund have confirmed that if Manchester United offer a figure that represents their valuation of Sancho he be sold. Tune in at 6PM for more bullshit!!

I guess I’m ITK now as I’ve stated the fecking obvious.

These journalists don’t know shit.

The irony in all of this is, you can just ignore them and not read it.

It is like going on youtube to watch conspiracy videos and then getting mad.

Don't really understand opinions like this. Do you really think all journalists don't know anything? Journalists will know people in the game whether it is agents, current or ex-players and staff or have direct contact with the club. ITK's are simply people who post on areas like reddit or forums claiming to know information. The difference is that journalists will put their name (and reputation) to something whereas ITK's will not. So they are not the same thing.

Secondly, looking at how this thread had developed has really shown how hard it is to be considered a good journalist. Sure, there are some pretty crap ones, but the moment a journalist makes a mistake, it seems people like you and the individual below are ready with the guns out to crucify them and claim "oh look I was always right all along". The reality is transfers are fluid and changing and anything could be happening. It was the main reason the tier system on reddit was created, whether you like that or not, it was an attempt to identify journalists who tend to get things right rather than wrong. Romano has tended to be one of the better journalists over time.

Lastly, yeah, sure, I will concede that even the very best journalists will add some spin to it, to generate clicks. But guess what. Their whole job is to sell newspapers or to get people reading articles. It is the nature of the job. In this particular instance however, Romano has simply repeated what he has said all along, after people keep asking him over and over for new information.

:D

In fairness, it is us the fans that are to blame. Like ravenous wolves on twitter demanding by the hour updates.

Of course some of these journalists have contacts. But in all likelihood the chosen few are probably only given one genuine update a week. Which means we get an awful lot of bullshit to fill in the gaps between genuine updates

Being a sports journalist is money for old rope. So much of it is guess work and just plain old fashioned bullshit and that is what annoys people.

What gives you that idea?

I didn't say the Glazers specifically, I said the board which comprises of the Glazers and others. The Glazers might not be affected as much but...

That was before we eventually signed Bruno in January. Not condoning the behaviour but that's how raw the emotion is on these issues. That along with fans on social media and (at some point) in the stadiums is something that the board will not be able to ignore for long.

There's trolling and WUM'ing and then there's posting a video like that for a laugh. I'm pretty sure any non-united fan would've gotten a warning had they posted something similar.
Well it quite literally wasn't meant for a laugh nor was it ever implied that it was in any way besides all the unexpected hand wringing and outrage over it but whatever.

I'll keep the apparent new rule changes in mind next time I see images of abuse of our players or staff members posted on here since I see now that's only acceptable in text form, not visually.

I dont think hes worth 120 million
feck it - walk away
Why I think he is worth that, aside from the fact he's feckin' incredible in a position we desperately need to strengthen is that we could waste 50, 60, 70 million on testing players on the RW, that's before their wages.

We need to buy guaranteed quality, like Liverpool have to finally get themselves over the line.

Specialists in positions that we need to strengthen, players that are guaranteed to improve our starting 11. That's the way we need to go. It will mean less players signed in each window but it will improve us more quickly.

I'd hate to loose out on Sancho now, to waste money on the likes of Costa who ultimately doesn't want to be here, same goes for the likes of Dybala etc. They don't want to be here. Sancho wants to play for United, which makes a huge difference. Especially as we've eluded to the fact we will only chase signings for players that want to be here, no more Di Maria's.

I think this signing would be the single biggest step forward we could take with a single signing. Even if we sacrifice a full on challenge for the title next year by having to wait until next summer to sign defensive requirements.

The irony in all of this is, you can just ignore them and not read it.

It is like going on youtube to watch conspiracy videos and then getting mad.

But I’m king Of the muppets mate. Been a member of this site for 15 years, was a lurker a few years before signing up and every single bloody summer I get drawn in hook line and sinker by the transfer sagas.

Every single summer I tell myself that I won’t get drawn into the bullshit and I will ignore it until I see the player holding up the shirt.

But like Michael in the Godfather part 3 every summer I’m like “I thought I was out, but they pulled me back in”!.

This is what I don't get, so many grownups getting proper tetchy and wound up. Foaming at the mouth that other people don't see things as they do. I know its a forum and difference of opinions is what its all about but the level of anger is baffling.

If I was Romano I'd tweet out the following just for lols

"Sancho to Man United, done deal for £108 million, here we go!...." 1/2

"...is exactly what I would tweet if Man united had just signed Sancho for £108 million" 2/2

 I don't think you would, the level of abuse and disgusting things that would be sent by utter cretins. There's a reason he doesn't say too much because there are so many morons on twitter. Nasty small little people hiding behind the photo of a footballer.

People holding journalists to these weird standards where if they don't know everything it means they don't know anything at all. Is this how you guys live life?

Everyone knows you can only offer one new extension every 5 years.

perfect response  I was so confused when I read that post

Look I hear what you are saying but the board dont give a shit about the fans when it comes to this kind of thing.
The financials will dictate whether they spend the money or not and that attack on the mans house was a disgrace.

So does getting sancho guarantee ROI in financial terms as there is certainly no guarantee that we will win titles if we sign him.
Fan always look at transfers from a team or team managers viewpoint. Fans just want the best team and to win titles, while that is only a consideration to the board who will be looking at long term finance and strategy.

120 million in the Covid world is just too much.

I've never been more certain a transfer would happen, as I was with this one. I could only assume things have been quiet because of our participation in the EL semis and the club wouldn't have wanted the focus to be on anything else. If next week there isn't any movement with Sancho, I'd say it's not happening at all.

Would be a shame, but I hope we manage to bring in a few other new faces to strengthen the lines.

The attacks on Fabrizio have been strange when he's never wavered or spun a different story yet on the Sancho stuff.

Seeng the Silva situation used as a stick to beat him with is also weird when Lazio themselves were certain he'd sign and had scheduled a medical already before La Real hijacked the deal last minite. Their team president has confirmed as much

Then what was the point of that post?

Mr. Whatshisname's (the manager) comments on Sancho was very weird but smart. Now if Sancho leaves, he can easily tell the media "I told you he was not mature enough and not focusing on his football, but rather the spotlight". Then if Sancho goes on to be successful, he can say "I told you he had a great potential but at the time we made a good decision, his mind was not for us" but if he fails, he can say "ManUnited spent a fortune for someone who was not ready for the move, I told you about his attitude". Smarty pants of a club this one, feck off.

What HAVE they sorted out in these weeks of talks then? Feck all it seems!

The negotiations are just Woodward phoning up each day to offer an extra million on top. He is up to £73m.

Then what was the point of that post?
I had come across it minutes prior and thought of this saga right away and how OTT the fanbase can be when angered but I guess it's more acceptable to describe in text form than video illustration.
Was only commenting on the inevitable meltdown if this falls through and we have a poor window going off past behaviour and history. Didn't expect it to be taken any other way but that was a lapse in judgement on my part I guess with how on edge everyone seems to be in here...

I don't buy into this because its a Lukhurst piece. I reckon he's slow of the blocks here and would rather trust the more credible journalists who have not pointed to agent fees being an issue

Its slightly encouraging to see signs that this isn't completely dead. Woodward has to find a way to make it happen.

This. Luckhurst never gets exclusive info like this. It could be he gets told what to write by United, but that 100% means its just smoke and mirrors.

why do journalists think we would find it interesting that an agent is involved or whatever. based on the reports they do on the financial statements, this is probably a totally standard and misunderstood thing from a journalist who has no experience doing a deal trying to piece together a complex process with tiny snips of info

In what world is he meant to be a Sancho alternative? Would imagine any move for him would be for depth purposes

I just received a tweet in a Whatsapp group from a guy called Sergio Amara that worked for United a few years back? He is suggesting he has information about the transfer, and that United are trying to structure up to three deals for this transfer window, and are attempting to balance all three simultaneously, hence holding up the Sancho deal (they need to see how much they can afford to pay up front whilst still pulling off all three transfers).

No idea if he is reliable. Does anyone know anything about the guy (says he lives in Salford)?

It's ridiculous. He reports interest. He doesn't have the final say on whether the transfer will go through or not. If anything, the whole situation oonly proves his info is sound.

He is VERY reliable. Thank you Sergio Romero.
