Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

We spend 25m in interest payments, a few millions in taxes, and around 20m in dividends. Everything else stays in the club, so I guess roughly 600m or so.

Corona has affected us badly. Cash reserves are under 100m (they were 300m last summer, though we spent big since then) and last quarter we reported losses (and in total 30m less than same quarter last year). The projected revenue for this year is likely going to be more than 100m less than last year. People who think that this won’t affect transfers are fooling themselves (though on the other side we got a debt of 150m pounds, but no idea if we will use money from there for new signings or only for club’s expenses).

We still have wages to consider, as you say, second highest in the world, expenses such as maintenance etc.

People look at revenue and completely dismiss expenses

Jesus Christ, the minimum possible? We have the second highest wage bill in Europe and have had the second/third highest net spent in Europe since SAF retired. Yet they are somehow frugal.
How do you know we have the 2nd highest wage bill in Europe? I suspect we might have the 2nd highest wage bill in Greater Manchester, but Europe? Someone posted a table in the last few days that had us at 7th and even then the whole thing was called out as clubs rarely publish their wages in detail.
I appreciate it is the muppet thread but your statement is pure speculation.

At one stage, despite the feckin around, I thought this deal might get done. Now Sunday Telegraph reporting:

"The chief executive of Borussia Dortmund has insisted it is "set in stone" that Jadon Sancho will not be sold this summer and rounded on former Manchester United players Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves for claiming the German club were bluffing"

I thought that was the other bloke! but what I was saying is that I've lost faith in this getting over the line - having said I thought we might get there in the long run
Yeah, its the other bloke Watzke. But Dortmund are known to talk a lot about their potential outgoing transfers. The deal is only dead if we come out with briefings of reasons why we are not proceeding with the deal or if Sancho definitely says he's staying.

I'm glad Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is putting pressure on the board to get this done, He's delievered what they want, They need to return a favour and get him Jadon Sancho this summer.

Glazers have taken over a billion out of the club in the last decade. That is 5 Mbappes. It is their money and they have the right to do what they want with it, I am not denying that. But what we have been spending since they arrived is not in line with a club of our finances.
During Ferguson's years they were very frugal. They have opened a bit since then but only through necessity. They will tighten the purse strings soon again once we are decent.

Don`t take what they say at face value
The same guys said they wouldn`t sell Dembele/Auba but sold them the moment the money came in. Yes they forced moves but people forget BVB never reduced the price tags and Barca/Arsenal in the end still matched BVB`s valuation. If we match their valuation for Sancho they will sell especially during a pandemic that has cost them a lot of money.
Heck remember after losing Hummels and Gundogan in 2016 they said there is no way they sell Mkhi/Hummels/Gundogan in one window and that Mkhi will stay and everyone thought they`d do a Lewandowski with him and keep him till the end of his contract? Guess what they still sold him.
There`s still more to come and I suspect after our EL campaign ends and Lyon get knocked out of the CL(Depay reportedly the man they want as Sancho`s replacement) we`ll hear an avalanche of news

Think about it this way; if we’re £10m apart in the negotiations, Woody/Judge will save 10% of that in 4 weeks of delaying by not paying his wages.

A few weeks of Alexis being off the books on top of that and we’re there.

Be ready, the next argument is going to be "but they've taken out £1bn from the club since the takeover!!"

5 points for MDFC Manager.

This. Whatever we’ve spent has not been our limit.

Apply that to Barca, Real Madrid, City, PSG You cant because they all spent to their absolute limit (and City even beyond that as we’ve seen.)

We’ve been hamstrung by this ownership and everything we’ve achieved is in spite of them, rather than because of them, unlike the likes of City, PSG.

It’s like tying weights to Ussain Bolts ankles and expecting him to compete with the best in the world.

Because of the Glazers we are chasing the pack rather than being chased. I’ll forever despise them for it.

Know it’s frowned upon but might have something for the hard core muppets to feed on. I don’t usually post here and the only time I’ve come out with something like this was mhkitaryan which ended up true (check if you want). Although I take this one with a pinch of salt compared to the last time I’ve ever heard something which was nailed on.

A close friend of mine who I met through my golfing years works for a company based in Ireland who supply teams with GPS training gear, has been told by someone high up at Nike that Sancho will definitely head to united and it’s pretty much a done deal. Same guy also said in November time last year that he had a meeting with Sancho’s agent Emeka obasi to discuss a deal with the company and when negotiating why Sancho should receive more dollar from the deal his agent said he’d be coming back to the prem the following summer.

As I said I don’t post here often and when I’ve done so in the past it proved right. Albeit this time round its coming from a mate. But yeah, I’ve got a good feeling we’re gonna get him unless we royally feck this up which Woodward is very capable of doing.
800 posts in 7 years is good enough for me it’s SanchON

Yeah posted something similar the other day. They might be looking to save a months worth of Sanchez and Sancho wages.

It’s a big chunk of money whichever way you look at it. Plus Dortmund can use that delay to posture and make out they’ve made it even harder for us than they have.

It’s a good a theory as any for the delay in the absence of a briefing to the UK press that we’ve pulled out.

Someone enlighten me. Whats the differnce between telling your manager you want to leave and handing in a transfer request. Like do you have any kind of law behind you to get you out if you hand in a request?
Wasn’t Rooney’s called “wanted away” ?

That was reported last Wednesday or Thursday.

Tonight's result has a much bigger impact on our finances.

We have plenty of cash. 120m euro up front is a lot though, in a punishing structure. Could well be that this is our whole budget for the year, or close enough to it that we realistically won't get another player in. We don't have a Lukaku out to balance the books like last year

don't think the idea was ever a full 120m euros up front. The only credible rumour we heard about was a large upfront payment and haggling over the structure of the rest of the payments, likely over multiple years.

Ah I see... I guess the debate is united want to pay less guaranteed and more in add ons.

I think you guys make valid points.

I‘d been thinking in my head how the coming couple years may seriously impact our spending on transfers due to the spending departments like wages etc. The pandemic has essentially abolished ways to be able to calculate what our aggregate revenues could look like on a year to year basis and hence plan ahead. Pessimists like me wouldn’t even be surprised if spending on Sancho causes our transfer spending to not even go beyond 50m next two windows or something like that.

Our wage bill will most likely remain the same or a tad bit higher with Sancho & Pogbas new contract. Sure getting rid of wages from players like Lingard, Rojo, Smalling etc may reduce it but there will be other replacements brought in as well.

The club obviously plans a couple years in advance and they must surely know they need to keep substantial reserves on hand just to guarantee the coverage of essential expenses for at least the next 5 years.

When clubs like Arsenal are letting go of staff, it’s a very alarming situation in regards to how much they’ve cut down on their annual expense budget. Makes me wonder where is our club taking into account the impact of COVID and offsetting any resulting losses that we’ve incurred.

Moreover, until fans are allowed back in, and I’m not talking socially distanced audiences, I’d imagine full stadium audience revenues is what would allow us to maybe dip in our reserves again more comfortably. And until that happens I’d assume our transfer budgets may even be redirected towards other expenses instead of utilizing reserves if need be.

But at the same time I think being back in the CL along with avoiding a deduction in our Adidas income as a result of our return to the competition will also go a long way.

I also think our academy is truly helping us A LOT at the moment. We’ve had players like Rashford, McT, Greenwood and Williams save us critical outlays and the emergence of players like Mengi, Laird, Mejbri etc may also allow us to limit our outlays next few years.

On a side note - keeping all this in mind, what are your opinions on bringing in players this summer. It’s clear our squad needs reinforcements but I think Sancho being a generational talent does justify having to spend an impractical amount despite the current pandemics’ effect. As well as despite the fact that it’ll be at a cost of foregoing other acquisitions. Sacrifices will have to be made somewhere. Should it be quality over quantity or vice versa?
We’d also again have to rely on our academy to provide reinforcements but not sure if the players I mentioned are ready to come into the fold right away. If they can be then that’s basically avoiding buying new players and redirecting those funds towards other obligations.
For instance Greenwood & Williams have literally helped avoid a sum equivalent to what a player of their caliber would’ve cost us in today’s market while also taking into consideration an ongoing pandemic. Mind-boggling! But a blessing no doubt.

Think Gabriel is on the verge of Napoli.
We will struggle to shift deadwood. Think Smalling will find a home but who would take the rest?

Hope someone can take Jones/Rojo/Mata on a free transfer ? And we can get money on Smalling/Jesse/Perrera

That would leave our squad with right group of players and we can build on from that base.

If still anything left like Bailly and Dalot we can shift them next season.

Pretty much none at all, but it is one of those Twitter legends. It might make fans hate you so the clubs might decide to sell you, but for most part there is nothing. Losing bonuses changes nothing considering that they are small in comparison to wage bump with the new club and the signing on fee.

Most players don’t hand a transfer simply cause it achieves nothing. Going in strike and refusing to train is actually the only way to force the club to sell you.
You lose bonuses and other fees when you put in a transfer request.

Wakes up, fills a big cup of coffe, puts my ass in the chair, opens chrome, clicks on redcafe... NOT EVEN ONE TRANSFER TWEET?!

The f*ck... was expecting something... hell, I'd even take some negative shit from Jan-Åge :boring:

Loyalty bonuses are typically triggered when a player is still with the club after the window closes.

My understanding is the loyalty bonus is what a player would be paid if they see out their contract but it may be set payments throughout the duration of the contract. When a player is sold by a club the club owes the remainder of that loyalty bonus to the player as they’ve decided to sell them which usually comes out of the transfer fee. It’s why we had to pay 5m to Sánchez as we didn’t get a fee and we still owed him it.

However, if a player hands in a transfer request they are then no longer owed the remaining loyalty bonus from the selling club when the transfer takes place.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned but us letting Chong go out on loan must mean we’re getting Sancho (or another winger). He’s one of the few genuine wingers we have at the club. If we weren’t getting anyone I’m sure he’d have got more game time this season.

I’m sorry if I don’t follow the consensus but from judging our two three latest annual reports this narrative isn’t correct. In fact it’s the opposite.

The club has from a financial standpoint done whatever it takes to back Ole in his rebuilding project. The numbers is there for all to see.

Secondly the club can’t just spend “whatever it takes” in this financial climates. Why should we jeopardize our future? The Pandemic could be a marathon and right now nobody can predict the future and when we’re back to normal. Why is this so hard to understand?

Under any normal circumstances buying Sancho for “whatever it takes“ would benefit us in the long run, but when the money isn’t there what should we do?

I’m 100% sure that if Dortmund would accepts a three year installment we would be all over this deal in a heartbeat. Solskjær has in his short stint proven to Woodward and the owners that he know what he’s doing. I think the Bruno deal in January 2020 perfectly illustrated this. The last 18 months the club have stretched their financial muscles to the limit. What more can we as supporters demand?

I said this a few days ago that whatever Woodward decides to do I support his decision.

He has done tons of mistakes, literally, from Fellaini up to Sanchez, deals, wages, you name it, but whatever opinion we have about him remember that he’s in charge of a successful business. At the moment he do good things. If we want to criticize him when he’s bad then he deserves credit when he’s learning from his mistakes? Isn’t that fair?

Jadon Sancho will be a Manchester United player if the club thinks they can afford to pay whatever Dortmund wants. Make no mistakes. Previous transfers since Ole arrived is a testament of that. Take that onboard and enjoy the ride. This rodeo isn’t over yet.

Not talking about 1 transfer talking in general. If the club don't back Ole enough to try close the gap they are a disgrace.

If in general you mean since Ole has been manager don't you think they have backed him?Otherwise, you know, the financial climate is somewhat different at the moment.

Why do some people think today is the day? I'm assuming I've missed something when skimming through the thread.
