Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Im beginning to think this impasse is that Manchester United do not have the cashflow to meet Dortmund's demands. So unless Dortmund compromise, there can be no deal. Dortmund think we are bluffing, so using brinksmanship to force us into a move.

Sancho himself will also have to compromise with his wage demands.

There is a long way to go before this transfer can happen.
I don't think any club has that sort of money, especially as it appears Dortmund want a large chunk of it up front.

There is no deadline. This night not get done but this deadline is a joke. It simply bisnt real

You say so, but i'm not so sure.
I guess we will see once/if United can pay the 120. In my opinion Dortmund is trying to build up a reputation in the market, they could very well quote the "deadline" to refuse the money this year, if they're sure that they can get a similar amount next year. They aren't in any financial trouble (yet).

Dortmund are literally goading us into paying what they want.

All these posts with Sancho, there players going public about him staying... it's all to be like "we've got him ner ner ner ner"

They're trying to get Woodward angry so he will storm in with the warchest fully loaded.

Highly doubt the powers that be at Dortmund will turn down £120m. Can see it dragging on a right while though if he doesn’t start pushing for the move.

Pique did the same with Neymar. The club would never brief the players about stuff like this. The leaks would be everywhere in no time.

It's not as if the club is saying to the players: "Sssshhh guys, of course we're selling him if they pay what we ask. Now go out and pretend you're happy."
No i dont think the club tells them anything, but he might have told them himself.
I really really hopes we sign him btw.

He's worth every penny and then some.
Also, the effects of Covid on a multibillion company like United would be minimal at best, barely a drop in the ocean. Dortmund will be very much aware of this.
Stating that Manchester United is a 'multibillion company' demonstrates just how little you understand the finances of the club, let alone the impact of covid19. In 2019, our total revenue was €711m. Let alone multi billion, Manchester United does not even turnover 1 billion.

Also, Id like to know what authority or evidence you use to determine that covid impact will be minimal 'barely top in the ocean'.

You should become more educated on this before writing such inaccurate opinions.

Not going to lie I am a bit worried by how buoyant that Witsel sounds in that interview about him staying

It’s possible but it’s also possible that that is the hand we are playing. Dortmund’s Ace is “Deadline over, no longer for sale” in the hope we come back in with their demand and get it done. United’s Ace is that they know that Dortmund do actually want to sell and we have no competition to drive the price up so we just wait it out claiming that we don’t have access to the cash they are demanding and hope that they fold before we do.

Well apparently the two clubs never directly communicated together in dialogue. Did the intermediary not informed United about this? It was allegedly all over the papers

It’s more that during negotiations Dortmund never said to us formally “you have a deadline of 10th August” and more they just said it to the media to create the narrative. Which is pretty likely.

According to Forbes, the club is worth about £3B. So that does make it a multi billion company, no? Unless i've got it wrong.

one of yesterdays briefings was that United proposed 60m upfront and 60m in instalments. That suggests that our cash reserves are not fluid enough to meet Dortmund demands. Dortmund either don't believe us or don't have immediate cash requirements themselves.

If Dortmund have their own cash requirements, then the hope is that they fold later on in the window. Either way, this subject is on ice for a while.

His point was about transfers, not company valuation. Transfers get funded from profits or reserves held on the balance sheet, hence linked to our income and not on company valuation.

I think it’s more they’re baiting Sancho to either hand in a transfer request or declare he’s staying. This story doesn’t go away until of those things happen. Hopefully something happens either way this week as it’s getting a bit tedious now.

Yeah. I think this because one of yesterdays briefings was that United proposed 60m upfront and 60m in instalments. That suggests that our cash reserves are not fluid enough to meet Dortmund demands. Dortmund either don't believe us or don't have immediate cash requirements themselves.

United cant invent cash from a magic tree. We simply dont have enough cash available right now.
Yeah, especially when it looks less and less likely fans will be back next year.

If he was so keen on leaving then he wouldn't have agreed to extend his contract for another year and If he wanted to force a transfer then he would have done what Dembele and Aubameyang did but he hasn't.

The club reportedly had an option to extend for a further year in the original contract he signed, I believe. He didn’t sign nor agree to extend for a further year recently.

I would rather have this go on for another month or two than Sancho declaring he's staying.

Woody will get his man at the end of September, saving 2 months of wages, so around £2M.

True. I don’t think Dortmund sell in 6 weeks though. As much as the August 10th deadline is clearly nonsense because they’d still have plenty of time to get a replacement in I don’t see them selling last few weeks of the window.

Regarding the part in bold. I've seen it on several occasions in this thread. It appears that a lot of people are still not aware of financial impact the pandemic will have.

I love United except when it comes to transfers I cant stand the same crap every year :/

One of the usps of Dortmund is that they do not stand in the way to deny a star player a transfer to a bigger club. Will they do it for Sancho?

The comments from the Dortmund side are putting me off. Let’s see if Sancho is willing to force the case otherwise I really wouldn’t be against us walking away, we have a mint front 3 as it is and there are other ways to strengthen the squad.

That suggests we’re looking for a “better“ deal as we are not looking to solely buy Sancho this summer. I’m sure we are well able to pay the full amount but it would restrict our remaining transfer budget. If push came to shove we would pay up and he would be our only signing. It’s been widely reported he is our primary target, we won’t just give up that easily.

To be fair, they have been pretty open. The price is €120m and they want the deal done asap. I don't think that's an outlandish price, given that the player has three years left on his deal.

If we can find the money, then it will happen. I'm not sure we can find the money, though.

There are deals where we shouldn't pay whatever the asking price as it's just OTT, these are usually PL deals like Maguire and to an extent AWB. But players like Sancho are class, we shouldn't be losing the player because of transfer fee. IMO 120 million is a fair deal for player like Sancho who is just 20.

Agreed. I don't think 108m pounds is bad value, considering we paid close to 130m pounds for Maguire & AWB.

Have paid so much fees for Slab head and AWB (Basically the amounts their respective clubs wanted) and set the wrong precedent in the market itself. But why is BVB in the wrong to have a similar stance? Now is not the time to experiment Woody, not a single player is as good as Sancho in a position we need to fulfill ASAP, given Chelsea and Arsenal's acquisitions.

People keep saying we have good front three. Greenwood is 18, he’ll have drops of form. Rashford is still inconsistent and his performances fluctuate wildly. There’s also injuries and fatigue to account for. And who do we have on the bench? Daniel James?

It’s like United fans are allergic to having a strong team/squad and quality options.

Hahahaha, exactly. Some of these people with their, finger in the air financial quotes, are laughable.

We should only pay what we think is fair. Arsenal have just announced redundancies and we have retained all staff, even match day employees, and continued to pay them. This, annd taking care of our finances, is important than buying Sancho.

Some considerations -

Signing him after EL completion makes some sense.

- We earn X amount depending on how well we do in EL. This might have a knock-on for sponsorship payments?

- We save £ on wages by not signing him before our season has finished.

- Could a signing now disrupt the squad and our EL efforts?

- We have some time now to sell players that we may HAVE to sell for funds.

- Winning EL and then signing Sancho is probably a good look for investors.

Just some ideas about what may play into the transfer.

Facts.

It's just about the money, they don't have to sell, so it's up to them what they'll accept. Evidently, that's 120 mill.

We'd sell any of our players if the right amount of money was put placed on the table.

Think its more about the timeframe on the installments/addons , the money is there but we'd like to have some cash left for potential other transfers this summer.

Didn't we brief the press that we pulled out of the Fernandes deal in the summer? Or was that Griezmann. Either way I expect us to do the same for Sancho if a deal can't be reached. Hasn't happened so far and as long as this is the case I remain slightly optimistic. We love doing it all publically way too much to remain silent if the deal was dead.

Precisely this. I wish Woody was this adamant last year before spending 130m on 2 average players.
