Is it fair to say if this doesn't go through, Fab, Falk etc will take a big hit on their reputation? The foreign journos have been saying it's close for some time now while the British press have maintained that we are far apart

I wouldn't say so because they haven't said themselves that he IS going to move to United, especially Romano who basically just gives updates of the stage of the deal. We might pull away from negotiations due to the fee, Romano has said there's no agreement thus far on the fee, so he'd come out fine, the rest I'm not bothered about. That Jan guy basically said we've agreed a deal with his '70-30-20' tweet, so he'd coming out looking like an attention seeker, nothing new though.

Is it fair to say that ED can only try to deal with one transfer at a time?

He's not even the main man doing the deals so I just think this is a myth that people have run with and now talk about it like its fact.
We literally don't know.

You're both right, but we've been concentrating on this one transfer for a very long time and we also need a couple of other signings - that is if we actually get Sancho.

We don't know if we've just been "concentrating on this one transfer for a very long time". People need to stop taking everything they read in the press as gospel. For what its worth, it's very unlikely we've just been solely focusing on Sancho, I'm sure plenty of other work has gone into other targets too, that's just common sense.

Okay, so I guess he goes for free in two years then? If Dortmund don’t want to negotiate.
Who will pay 100+ Mill this year? (No one except maybe us)
Who will pay even 50 Mill next year when you can sign him for free in dec? No one.

I think we called their bluff. Its too much money for them to not negotiate. They know this is the last chance to get good money for him. And we’re the only club interested it seems. They won’t even get 80 Mill from any other club in this Covid market.

Havertz isnt sold yet is he? But yeah, Ziyech 33 Mill, Werner 50 and Pulisic 50. Price for Sancho should be around 80 with those transfers in mind.

Hummels have never left Bundesliga. He’s like Götze and Reus, going back and forth Dortmund/Bayern.
Gundogan can’t be considered good for city surely?
Pulisic not had a season in PL yet. But looks promising. Lets see after next season.
Dembele looks promising, but not at that price. Injuryprone.
Mkhi/Kagawa just bad.

2 years is long time to wait for a player
That is why we are in a strong position to sign him, no competition

Who will pay £50m? Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern, Barca, Real, PSG, Juve and signing someone for free will still be 2 years time. Look at Hazard, no competition and he went for £100m with 1 year left.

So now you want to move the goal post? You mentioned Havertz not me. Why are you comparing Pulisic which was a signing 18 months ago to signings now? Because it fits your narrative? Werner would have been more but for a release clause in his contract. Ziyech is 29.

Why cant Gundogan not be classed as a success?

Mikhi / Kagawa came to Manutd and were played in the wrong positions from the get go.

So, again what is the alternative, you seem to think there is one? Who?

We will call their bluff? there is no bluff. They do not care if they don't sell Sancho, they will be perfectly happy to keep him for another season and wait till next summer.

We did not pay him 52m to leave that's BS.

I totally agree we did no pay £52m, many fans forget we paid Alexis a signing on fee of £25-30M which was subsequently built into his 525k per week wages reported by the media so circa 100k per week was paid up front as part of that figure over four and half years, then a basic wage of £375k per week plus playing and goal bonuses, it’s why he wasn’t played last year to avoid paying additional fees, the sort of thing only Woodward would instruct!

I think we wanted a transfer Fee, inter said no or pay him off and the reality is, both teams came to a compromise of Paying him £10-15m each with Inter agreeing signing on fee and us a Golden handshake to leave.
Alexis is rumoured to be on £170k per week from his new contract so he’s obviously been given £25-30m upfront which based on a 3 year contract is an £160-190k per week.

To be fair all parties have actually won, Inter have a rejuvenated player that’s cost them prob £15m, Alexis has put playing over money unlike Mesut Ozil and still received a handsome salary and United have removed £40m of their wages budget for next two years and can probably justify Jadon Sancho’s considerable investment financially and whose wages should be Only slightly higher than Anthony and Marcus at 250-275K per week not the £350k which is being widely reported !

The club needs to remove Jones, Rojo, Dalot and added to Sanchez saving, the club should have another 500k per week added into the wage budget.
(Let’s all remember that Bruno is currently getting paid between a third and a half of salaries Pogba and De Dea are being paid so Sir Bruno , Greenwood and Pogba will all need new contracts very soon !!!

Fans forget Maguire was on big wages 180k but Bissaka 90k and James 25k not so much probably all 3 combined on 300k and removing Romelu Lukaku was adjustment of probably only additional 50k per week as his rumoured salary was 250k per week.

I would say if Smalling stays, quite possible then we will only buy a right winger and an attacking midfielder to replace either Mata or Lingard and a free signing like Mandzukic would come in if Igalho leaves?

To sign another CDM, Fred would have to be sold and leave!
I can’t believe I’m saying this but it looks like our board are starting to get their act together and value squad harmony, age and real values over wasteful foreign import signings that come just for the money and fame and not to play for the Coveted Red Devil’s shirt !
Time will tell but we are moving finally in the right direction, all be at such an incredibly slow Pace !!!

Nope Ed clearly only talks to one player at a time.

Does anyone remember when we signed Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger on the same day? Yeah, we clearly only do 1 deal at a time

It certainly look like the Sancho deal, if it happens, will be very expensive.

It's quite possible that we are only pursuing one deal, because that's all we think we can afford - Sancho might now be the only target this summer.

I agree, but last time I suggested that I got shouted down hugely.

In a post covid market it wouldnt shock me if we have this one massive outlay and wait until next summer.

Ridiculous post. If we buy Sancho, we will also buy other players.

This notion that we only look at one player at a time is such a fallacy.

It's possible, but why would this be likely? We are known to only focus on one deal at a time, and this one is quite complicated. There are plenty of reliable journalists that have suggested we have 2-3 target positions this window.

Moreover if we move on even half the number we are touted to (so even if its say 3 players we shift), that warrants 2-3 signings for quality in depth, if nothing else. I think we should let this play out and be wrapped up, then I think we will see a flurry of targets moving more in tandem. We might get 1 more, maybe 2, who knows. But I'd be surprised if we only bought Sancho this summer. Ole will be expected to push on from top 4, and he knows its not possible with just 1 more signing.

Its possible because Sancho will cost 100 million? And in a post covid world they might just do this one for now and leave it until next summer.

I hope you're right and were looking at a few but it's hardly controversial.

It’s quite impossible, on the contrary.
Buying Sancho is only needed if our intention is to challenge (for trophies).
To challenge for trophies, we need to strengthen several areas, so that’s what we need to do.
Besides, we can get quite a lot of money via sales: perhaps each sold player separately wouldn’t bring a lot, but there are just too many of them - so combined they may.

It may well come down to how much we can recoup in sales and whether we can negotiate down the up-front payments for Sancho.

Our transfer spend this year will be absolutely enormous (at least £184m in outstanding transfer fees are due) even if we sign no players at all this summer.

You think its impossible that our board might just complete one 100 mil signing and then decide to look at strengthening next window?

Also the last part is predicated on teams actually wanting our deadwood

I agree we need a few signings but we need to manage expectations here, players cost loads these days so don't be disappointed if it's just sancho.

I think a club like ours will be more defensive in the covid environment than others. So yeah, we are hit by the crisis but not as bad hit as so many others. This creates an opportunity for us, not to forget we have targets that we would be after, we can't just hit pause completely after Sancho. I'm not saying we should do a Chelsea and go all out, but looking over our shoulder at the likes of Chelsea/City who may be bringing in 4-5 players, I think we will go for 2-3.

Regarding the recouping sales amount, you also have to remember how much money you free up from the wage bill that is a big saving. Sanchez is major, but then you have Lingard/Mata/Jones/Smalling/Dalot/Pereira too. Take 3 from that and you will probably look at another £400k per week from the wage bill (e.g. Mata, Jones/Smalling and Lingard). I think the Adidas sponsorship being intact (£75m is it?) plus the confirmed Champions League revenues for next season builds for an added capacity to get players in after Sancho. It won't be £60m a pop, but we might be able to squeeze Grealish for example, if he pushes to leave.

Again, Ed as CEO is repsonsible for all transfer dealings and does revel in photo opportunities when finalised. What is disappointing is watching other clubs have targets and signing them why there is the usual low balling and stalling from Ed and Judge. That's so frustrating for a team on the edge of making a challenge, but no doubt the spin doctors will be informing us all that our supreme negotiators refused the demands of the selling team.

Meanwhile, Citeh and Chelski are bedding in their targetted signings and the so called biggest club in England doesn't, strange times ahead of Champions League and EPL starting soon.

English media have been announcing the change from
@Sanchooo10
as almost fixed. But the 120 million euros called up are likely to be too expensive even for ManUnited. He probably stays with
@BVB
:

Need Jiminez aswell if Ighalo goes, or another striker of that Ilk, maybe Thiago as an all round midfield backup.

If it’s true and we are only paying £60 million upfront we can easily get those two aswell which might cost another £60 million. If we don’t sign anyone else I would assume it wouldn’t be because of money.

Agreed. If we can find the money for further additions, that would be great, but even if we only sign Sancho, people shouldn't feel like the summer has been a failure. £100m deals will not be the norm this year.

Just pay the god damn money ffs. Why not just wrap up the bloody deal, he signs for life and we move on. We'll pay what they want eventually.

Ed is just waiting for this thread to reach 777 pages. Which hopefully happens on the 7th of august. We need to step up our game.

Jiminez and Thigo for 60M? bargain.

We always do, that’s the annoying thing. Weeks of haggling to pay what they wanted all along anyway. It just ends up wasting our own time.
