The thing is he has shown the quality! Even if his output reduces next season, its all about consistency which is a common issue with young players. It would be mental to wait for another season. That would be so Arsenal like.On the other hand, his output could even be better next season and every club on the planet will want him in 2020 and then if he lights up Euros we could be looking at a world record fee for a 20 year old - which is fine if he's doing his stuff.. But then you think we could have signed him for 70 to 100 million which looks like a bargain suddenly. Some posters already made that point about Sterling. There isn't a person in a world that didn't think his asking price was incredibly steep. Point is, there will always be a degree of risk but at the end of the day, I think we can agree that he's worth that risk now. I'd rather we go for players with huge potential than don't to be honest with you.
