Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Simeone was desperate to keep Griezmann, and Dortmund are desperate to cash in on Sancho. They're entirely different situations. And Morata... didn't we drop him as soon as Lukaku became available?
I thought we just got sick of Real Madrid being knobs over the price / keep raising it.

Either way, examples aside. We’ve let quite a lot of deals that look as good as done slip through our fingers in the Woodward era. Wouldn’t surprise me if it happens again

I'm surprised how underrated Sancho is on here oddly enough. Is it just because people haven't seen that much of him or they think everyone bought from Dortmund is an automatic flop?
I think its some hesitation due to Goetze and Dembele who were the other really hyped young footballers from Dortmund who didn't or haven't lived up to the hype. Although, a lot of Dembele's issues come down to his inability to stay healthy. No idea where it all went wrong for Goetze (outside of it happening when he arrived at Bayern).

Although, I think most people are all aboard on the hype train and will be going crazy if we eventually land him. We've just seen so many crazy threads fail (Thiago, Vidal, Wesley, Snijder, Griezmann, etc), our track record on transfers post-SAF havn't exactly been pristine, and its also just a crazy time in the world where we are wrapping up our season in mid-August, the Euros canceled/delayed, and a lot of peoples everyday lives being completely uprooted.

every club signs players that flop, and every club has transfers that fall through for some reason. Makes no sense to be pessimistic because "player X from the same club flopped" and "we didn't get transfer Y over the line". Every player and every transfer is different.

My prediction is that Sancho is a Man Utd player this friday. #JadON

Set the alarm clocks nice and early muppets

The actual lyrics from the muppet show theme tune is quite apt.

“Why do we always come here,
I guess we’ll never know,
It’s like a kind of torture
To have to watch the show“

Option 3 is always the way with our transfers.

When we're linked with them their crap, but if it was City resigning him or him going to Liverpool there would be meltdowns that he's going to rip the league apart.

Whats everyones thinking will this get done quickly for once or will it drag as always considering there is a 10th of August deadline I believe it is ?

I‘ve avoided this thread because it seems like the usual transfer bubble. Is there any specific reason Sancho could want to join us? I mean reasons HE would want to join us, not why WE think he should.

We will give him a massive pay-raise, we are the only ones in for him, he's friends with some of our young English core (mainly Rashford) and he's used to Manchester. Plus, seems no one else is in on him at the required fee or wages this summer.

Erm, the fact that he’s agreed terms with Utd already would suggest he wants to join us.

(Been confirmed by a number of tier 1 reporters)

357 pages so far is quite a poor amount of muppet enthusiasm for potentially our biggest £££ ever signing?!

Surely we need to up our game?

The way he plays he'd probably excel in the no.10 role as well, 3 positions covered pretty much. These sort of performances remind you why Dortmund are holding out for £100 million plus.

Just pay Dortmund 100m, I dun understand why it is so hard for us to do the deal. In few years time, he will still be in his early twenties, and may worth well over 150m (assume this COVID situation won't last for few more years). Whatever way you look at it, it will still be a bargain in long term, and he may even have over a decade of top class football ahead of him.

If we buy someone older and cheaper, we may end up paying more anyway as we will need to replace with another one within a decade for sure.

tbf it is the right time to negotiate a better price. Dortmund have to/want to sell him this transfer window as Sancho has only two years left on his contract and is not at all looking to renew it which means holding onto him till next summer will decrease the amount they'll get for him (just look at Sane). Additionally, this time we are the only club looking to get him and willing to get anywhere close to their asking price.

edit: by a better price I still mean around 80-90m + add ons of about 10-15m.

Sure we still have to negotiate and try to get a better deal, but if Dortmund insist on their asking price, we should still just pay up. Its still much better value than the 80m we've paid for Maguire last summer (don't get me wrong Maguire is still a decent defender)
If next summer the market is back to normal, even though Sancho would be in his last year of contract, I reckon they could still sell him for at least the price we are offering to him now, but they have 1 more year service from him.

Look at Dortmund players & our players now, if you are Sancho which players you would rather play with?

20 year old that has bagged double digit figures for both goals and assists for the past two seasons, in a position we’ve neglected for years and I still see people asking if we should really be in for him. Mad.

Having him and Greenwood is the stuff of dreams.

He wants to go back to the premier league and live in England (widely reported). He would want the lure of being the star #7 at United. Perfect spot open for him alongside others he already knows well, and players who would suit his style really well. Biggest and most historic club in England. Bonus of CL football now. Money. Fame. Widely reported that he's basically already agreed personal terms and wants the move, though not necessarily something he would push if the clubs can't agree a fee (have very little doubt that we will agree one though). We've been after him for years. An amazing player that timing situational works out for us as a run to get him with pretty much little to no competition (its stay at Dortmund or sign for United basically). He was at City's youth, there has been no indication that he wants to go back or that they want him back. Liverpool have their star front 3 and couldn't spend on Werner at half the price. Chelsea spending elsewhere. Others can't afford or are irrelevant. Think they've all felt for a while that United have pretty much had him in very advanced negotiations for a while. Its just a signing that makes sense for us and him, from all perspectives.

Nothing is guaranteed with Dortmund players, just look at Mhkitaryan and Kagawa.

They were decent but Sancho is on a different planet to those guys. Sancho is as guaranteed a prospect as Hazard was basically, if not more. He's just an amazing player already.

I don't think he is as talented as Hazard.Hazard dribbling levels is on a different planet.

Only the first video works for me in the country i'm in. He seems to do a lot of tricks that don't come off and his passing doesn't look the best? Is this kid THAT good? He kind of looks $60M good in the video.

Given all the chit chat on reddit, i'm 99.9% sure he's coming.

Why do we have to mount a title challenge next season? Surely it’s about improving the team with the correct players and if we have to wait to sign the next one then so be it, that’s exactly what Klopp did.

Also, your point about Liverpool’s fullbacks assisting 23 goals is irrelevant, it’s all about style of play, after all City won the league in 18/19 with Kyle Walker providing 1 assist.

This. Liverpool won the league with wijnaldum providing zero assits. I am positive Pogba, Bruno and Sancho can provide enough assits for us to mount a challenge.

One of his best attributes is his passing and decision making, esp in final 3rd. He doesn't usually do tricks for the sake of it. It's all part of the flow of the game.

If we run out of budget and no Grealish, don't see why we cant play Greenwood/Martial/Rashford with Sancho in the Bruno role if he was injured or needed a rest?

Yes. It would be different but imo both Sancho and Greenwood can play there again differently.

The first two videos aren't great, it looks like he's trying too hard and not trusting himself enough. The third video seems to highlight his skills more, his technical ability and productivity in the final third.

100 million is far too much. Have we not been down this route enough already......Pogba, Sanchez (in wages), De Maria, etc and not one of them worth the outlay. Yet on these boards posters almost wet themselves as if spending vast sums will somehow guarantee success. I reckon Fergie had it right with going for value most times.

Look up Hazard's dribbling statistics at the same age. You're comparing Hazard at age 22+ to Sancho's age 18-19 seasons.

Fergie broke numerous transfer records over the years when the right players came along. The important thing is that the majority of the time he was proven right and the players were worth it.

Look at the Bruno thread. This place was calling him a slightly better farmer playing against a league of farmers. They got hurt too many times before in the past, and have now resorted to calling players shit before they come to us just so that they can feel better. All players are shit and is going to be shit for us until they prove otherwise. That is how this place works.

Becoming an immediate world superstar by joining arguably the world's biggest football club at which he'll earn a ridiculously high salary are pretty good reasons for joining, I think, but that's just me.

Dortmund and Sancho's people have been fluttering their eyelashes at us for over a year now. If this transfer doesn't happen, it's because Dortmund aren't sufficiently willing to lower their asking price and the Glazers call it off.

Why wouldn’t he? We’re in the a CL again with a young exciting team that has a slot in its first team almost built for him. We seem to be building something that will last a few years before the next major refurb so he can expect stability. A big wage and high profile image are factors too.

Anyway, assuming he wants to move at all, where else is there? He seemingly wants to be in the UK, Liverpool can’t afford him and for whatever reason City aren’t in for him. So the only other option is Chelsea, who are already in for other players. Don’t see him going to Spurs or Arsenal.

Dortmund's strategy is to get these young players and give them game time. Once they develop and become stars, they are sold for massive amounts. Sancho is the perfect example of this right now.

So, to answer your question, it doesn't matter whether he signs for United or some other club. At this point, we are the only ones who want him and can afford him, so we are what fits the bill so to speak. He will join as a highly paid superstar and will be treated as such. Whether it is at United or some other club is really not part of the equation for him at this point.
