Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I've long thought that we'd be interested in him this season or be quite advanced in negotiations with him just due to the fact that City felt compelled to put in an anti Utd clause in the Brahmin Diaz contract.
Same. Apparently, we tried to sign him from City but told him to wait. Something he wasn't willing to.
Think the Diaz clause has to be related. Why not put for other epl rivals?

It's verging on ridiculous how much of a perfect fit Sancho and United would be.
It's like you've dreamt of the this player,at the perfect age, who plays in a position we're desperately lacking in and here he is.

He'll be a great signing for City next season.

Is he being slightly overrated here given how perfect the situation is.

Given that he's 18, English and playing in the position we need most - it's a no brainer if the talent is really there.

I haven't seen enough of him to know either way but is he worth the £100m being discussed?
Probably a bit overrated, although I do reckon overpaying for him now would be worth it, I can see him being the next "big thing" who all the top clubs are fighting after so getting in early and securing him could be a pretty smart move on our part.

I can see me being in this thread a lot this summer. I'm not all that hopeful the deal will happen this year, but we're hearing enough little noises to make me want to believe.

I already want to see us play the diamond with a front 4 of Martial, Rashford, Sancho and Gomes. Not too much to ask is it?

He's talented alright, but he'll be 30 in 12 years time and I don't know if the risk is worth it.

Exactly. It won't be long before he's 29 in a decade, then it's just a waste of time. Too much money, plus £500,000 pw. Meh.

Seriously though, this seems a no brainer. Something Rooneyesque about the signing. A top class English player, young enough to be here for many years. Fills a glaring gap in the squad. If we were to spend big on anyone at all it should be this lad. It feels weirdly doable too, just seems 'right'. Do it!

I agree, but with Scott being given more game time nad the sheer amount those two would cost to get in, I very much doubt we would be able to get a DM as well.
Koulibaly and Sancho would be 180m minimum. I agree Matic should be rested better next season with McTominay as cover. Ideally we need a replacement/cover. However, I think a back up LB should be a higher priority. One injury to Shaw and the balance of play is gone. If we buy smart with a balance of bargains and star signings we should be okay. Sancho, Koulibaly, Tierney and someone like Thomas Partey who can play across multiple positions would benefit the team. We need the depth especially with Valencia, Darmian and Rojo out. Signing Sancho should be a priority but it shouldn't prohibit depth in other positions.

We basically only spent 42m (taking expenditures into the picture for this season (Fellaini, Blind, Johnstone) last year.. So yeah either:
- We're saving up for a big transfer-window
- Glazers are not into spending big

Around 200m sounds plausible, considering a new manager usually already gets to spend something to build a project. But 300m seems a bit excessive, considering there probably wont be a lot of expenditures. Rojo, Darmian the most likely ones - probably their fees will just about cover the sacking of Mou of 20m.
200m net should be doable for next season. If we get rid of a few players, then we should reach 250-300m. Otherwise, hard to see us competing.

I guess we'll see what will happen in the summer.

I thought too that Dortmund might want Greenwood. Not on loan though. Why would they develop a youngster for a season? Doesn't make sense.

It's amaizing how much people do underestimate Dortmund. They'll do everything to keep Sancho or will invite competition for him and drive the price above his market value. Wishful thinking gets the better off the transfer muppets on here.

How do you explain Adnan Januzaj's loan then? The point I'm making is that by the start of next season Greenwood may well be ready to start for a Bundesliga side and make a huge impact in the league...why would Dortmund not want a player with his potential as a sweetener for letting Sancho join us?

Is Sancho a City fan or are we not that far into his personal life. Every transfer season we find out that our targets support X team

I think it will be another generation, assuming they keep up their success, before City start getting City fans in their academy.

He looks quality. My girlfriend got me the Dortmund home jersey with Sancho on the back of it. Don’t have the heart to tell her he might be off soon . On a serious note, he looks a real talent and exactly what we need. Could benefit from staying another year at Dortmund though. Then again, we desperately need a RW.

I think 180m tops, personally. I think i've swung to De ligt though. I think we could deal with Matic/Mctominay if we have a more creative/goal output through Sancho. I also think we have quite a bloated squad as it is and would prefer to trim it down a bit and put a bit of faith in some of the players already at the club

Can’t decide whether to watch him or De Ligt tonight.

I always try to watch 2 games at once and it never works so I’m thinking flip a coin although I’ve seen a lot more of Sancho than DeLigt and I don’t even want to get my hopes up about DeLigt as I just can’t see us going for him. Decisions, decisions.

Perhaps if you watch him tonight you may decide you’re not very impressed with him, which may make you feel better about us potentially not going for him.

One poor match and the player is in a dip of form (since the advent of social media) apparently

His form has drastically fallen in the last few games,so i don't think we should get caught with the hype yet.

 And there we have it! The classic ehsanul negative post in a transfer thread! If this doesn’t prove that Sancho is going to be the Caf summer saga, I don’t know what is. Get ready lads. All the components are slowly but surely coming together.

Do you think they were happy with that loan?

Greenwood may or may not be ready to have a big impact for a Bundelsiga side. It's probably too early for him to have such an impact for a team fighting for the title though. Not every talented kid will be like Sancho. One can only guess at this stage, Dortmund wouldn't take less money in order to try to develop a teen for just one season. Doesn't make sense.

Or because it's so perfect, he'll flop.

I decided to watch Ajax and I’m really not regretting this decision at all, my word what a game. There are actually people crying in the stands. How is Sancho doing? DeLigt has been good.

So how is this Joao Félix guy instead of Sancho? Nicholas Pepe?. Joke aside, you can’t judge a player on a few bad games, when he has had mutiple good ones.
I just watched the first half and thought he was pretty good. Created two chances, some good passing. He was bad in the second half?

Dortmund were wretched in the second, after Spurs scored it looked like they were focused on not getting humiliated. Endless passing in front of Spurs’s 9 defenders. They barely created anything.

Bit of a stretch that. He had good and bad moments, mostly anonymous though.

Saw the first half. Most of Dortmunds attacks were going down the left and center, so he did not see much. When he did get the ball he was grand.

You have to judge him over the course of the season. Watching the first half tonight and you would think he is average.

Switched over to Ajax when Spurs scored so cannot make a judgement about the second half.

I think everytime he had the ball he was good. Make a pass to Reus in a corner that would be a Puskas. His passing was good. He takes very mature decisions.

He's been slightly humbled at this level but that is normal for a lad this age and relative lack of experience. If anything it makes him easier to acquire ... because I feel for him to keep improving, and facing serious competition.. he can't prolong his tenure in the Bundesliga. It is already too easy for him.
