Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I love the way people are sneering at a 90m bid as if it's buttons.
That's higher than the Pogba fee right? It'd be our highest fee in our history!

Most clubs set a fee above what they'd actually accept, so it seems a pretty good bid to me.

Obviously this should have been done 2 months ago and not in the last week, and could easily fail, but it's not a joke offer by any means. Let alone in the climate.

All the closest sources to United are giving indications that we're very much still in the race for him. Whether you see that as PR spin for Woodward or not, it's at least positive reporting from reliable sources close to United.

Yeah I've posters suggest its a last nights Sancho news is to just shut United fans up who are angry right now and when he doesn't sign they can say they tried knowing it won't happen anyway. That's just gonna make fans even more angry. Terrible PR, Neil Ashton might have worked for the sun be he isn't that daft is he.

I'm reading it as the opposite, Ed knows it'll be rejected but it makes it look like he tried as hard as he could.
I agree but then also surely he / people at the club are aware of supporter sentiment and understand that we see through that. Although that infers a degree of competence that most don’t think he has.

I think they know that, but just don't care. What has hinted that Ed or the Glazers give a shit about the supporters? They'll always put in the minimum effort to not lose too many so the money keeps rolling in, why would they do any more?

There are people on here , I don't know if they are genuine Manchester United supporters or not but their attitude stinks. They are somehow convinced that we should pay 120 million for Sancho regardless. No negotiating of the price. For them paying more for Sancho is like something to brag about or it will prove how important Sancho is.

They would be the first people to castigate Woodward and the Glazers if Manchester United went broke because of irresponsible spending.

My only view or take on it is that these fans do not live in the real world. Everything is done for them and their mum and dad pay for their credit card.

Sancho is a good player but he is not worth 120 million.

If Ed or indeed Manchester United fail to sign him on that basis, we should all applaud them not condemn them.

People talk about 120 million like its 120 pounds. People are losing their jobs at the moment and for Manchester United, a club based in the North West where all these hardships are common place, it would be heavily irresponsible to splash 120 million on Sancho when most of their fans are out of work. It would be insensitive and could cause unrepairable damage to the club if they went along with it.

Personally I like Sancho but pay as low as possible and not at once. It would be a kick in the teeth to fans whose lives have been turned upside down by covid crisis.

As Manchester United fans on here we need to get REAL.

I feel this is a nonsensical post. We are all frustrated, but leveling accusations at other supporters gets you nowhere. It’s just subjective drivel.

so it's wrong to call out insanity when you see it? The world is really screwed.

Sure it is, and there’s crazy amounts of inequality and injustice all over the U.K. not to mention an authoritarian clueless government and troubling times.

Attempting to establish some sort of causation between it all and the idea that buying sancho for 90m is “worth it” but the poster thinks he’s ”not worth 120m” and therefore it “would be a kick in the teeth to fans [to spend 120 instead of 90] struggling financially” is nonsensical.

As is taking a dig at fans living on “their parents credit cards” because they don’t see why we shouldn’t pay 120

Thank you. Perspective is always important in life.

We are living in strange times where nobody is unsure of what is going to happen to their personal circumstances, not next year but tomorrow.

Lets get real.

So basically we should pay what Chelsea did for Havertz and Werner combined because that is what Dortmund want? Dortmund know their original valuation was a piss take and with the reality of the Covid second wave sinking in now they may well realize that an offer of 90m now is worth it as they won't see a figure close to that again for a couple of years. Dortmund admit themselves that their business model is based in part on selling players at a profit, 90m is a massive return on Sancho and so yes we should stand firm at that price.

How about this for real: without Sancho (or an alternative of similar ability) our chances of finishing in the top-four are significanlty reduced.

We don't just want Sancho for the sake of it, we need him if we are to have a realistic shot at challenging this year.

Im trying not to get dragged into the muppetry with my own opinion haha. Only ends in tears. I generally enjoy reading and seeing others. The truth is, I don’t know. Ive not done a proper cost/benefit analysis on it etc. (I suspect he might be due to high resale value, but I’m powerless whatever my opinion so I’ll just wait and see what happens.)

The only reason I responded here to that poster was the equivocations they made, basically attempting to determine his own value of the transfer, ridicule those who differ, and try to bring the financial difficulties of supporters into his argument.

I didn’t like it, so responded!

Do you not understand what makes people tick, whatever your conditions some people look every day for positive, its what they wake up every day looking forward to, stop being so disrespective to these people if united want to spend 120 mill plus then you obviously dont understand what it means to some people .
Not all people have everything paid for by their mum and dad, you utter condescending twat some people live their lives by what united do every day United will never go broke and that shows you know feck all about our club as the gaffer said feck off and support chelsea

I'm reading it as the opposite, Ed knows it'll be rejected but it makes it look like he tried as hard as he could.
You don’t get to become CEO of Man Utd by behaving like that , whatever people think of Ed and his team, the perception of the fans is way off the reality - there is a strategy somewhere and a rationale - the biggest mistake on Ed’s part is that they just don’t communicate and thus let social media run wild with rumour after rumour....

this is unfortunately the consequence of being a debt laden listed company - they can not operate as other football clubs because they are obligated to shareholders and lenders.....

I am not levelling accusations at anyone. I am being realistic and its about time people got realistic about the whole thing.

We are not going to win the league this year because we spent 120 million on Sancho. At best it would keep us in top 4.

Why not spend that 120 million on 3 first team players and revisit Sancho when we can actually afford it?

Infact he could actually be cheaper by that time.

Your argument is very weak. Firstly I have not determined my own value of the transfer. All I have said is that Sancho is not worth 120 million. You know it, I know it and every football fan knows it.

Am also not ridiculing anyone. My point is that for anyone who knows the real value of money, they would not laugh at a 90 million offer for any footballer. 90 million is alot of money and can be a national budget for most countries in the world

As for bringing the financial difficulties of supporters in this argument. Welcome to the real world my friend. We have our very own Marcus Rashford campaigning for helping the disadvantaged in society and this may surprise you, but some of those disadvantaged are Manchester United fans.

How can Rashford effectively sell his message when his club are seen to be spending reckless amounts of money during a crisis? Perception is everything in life.

Every Manchester United supporter wants Manchester United to buy the best players and succeed. So if Manchester United feel they need to negotiate down fees for a potential player, all of us must get behind those efforts.

Paying 120 million to Dortmund because it's what they want us to pay, is not going to make Dortmund respect us or we are not going to get some award from FIFA for doing it. Why should United not negotiate? This is Dortmund a club who let Lewandowski go to their main rivals for free. Ed should definitely negotiate that price to as low as he can go. Fair play to him.

What is undeniable is that financial incompetence is always the main reason why most football clubs cease to exist or collapse .

Get real and wake up to the storm that is surrounding not just Manchester United but every football club, every company, every business and every person in the world today.

At this point it’ll be a joke even if we do sign him (and I don’t think we will). He’s been the primary target for the better part of a year and we haven’t even made a bid until we’re multiple games into the new season. Top to bottom incompetence on the business side of the club when it comes to footballing matters.

What are you going on about fella...

Regarding the bolded, don’t speak for others, speak for yourself. I think he’s worth every penny.

Check his numbers, his age, players of a similar standing and age who have been purchased for similar money and are worse players than Sancho, he won’t peak for another 7 or so years.

Even if he stayed at his current output and you had 20+ goals and assists for the next ten years that’s an absolute bargain.

Am not speaking on behalf of everyone fella.

I don't need you to agree with my post. Your opinion does not validate my opinion but I will give my opinion regardless.

Some will agree with my views some will not. No problem for me. Move on.

Aren’t you the guy that said players don’t get benchmarked against other players to determine value? Sounds an awful lot like you’re benchmarking him there...

I have a feeling that United have been quite clever about this. Holding onto to force down dortmund’s valuation might just pay off.

I initially thought the prospect of no fans through the gates for 6 plus months would kill off your bid, but actually thinking about it, if the same happens in Germany (where a 2nd wave is also looking on track) then it pretty much screws next summers window as well, possibly even more so than this one as lots of clubs will have burnt through any reserves that they might have by then.

A 90 million bid now might be Dortmund’s best offer for quite a long time and with no end to Covid-19 in sight, they’d be hard pressed not to accept.

Comparing the financial situation of United with the average middle to lower class worker is a very strange thing to do.

Summer muppet transfer mega threads are a distant land many miles away from CE forum my friend .
They speak a different language in these parts, different manners (well devoid of manners) and etiquette. I'd get straight back to passport control and get the heck out of here if I was you

Dortmund have made such a public fuss of the €120m figure though. Between that, the arbitrary deadline they set and saying Sancho will stay more recently, they'd look incredibly daft and their fans would probably go mental if they accepted a bid now.

Aren’t you the guy that said players don’t get benchmarked against other players to determine value? Sounds an awful lot like you’re benchmarking him there...
No I said they do get benchmarked by other sales.

I pointed out the other day that whilst you can’t gauge whether a player will be successful or not by other (similar) sales, the pricing is still benchmarked by those other sales.

You don’t get Sancho for £50 million like some posters seem to bizarrely think he’s worth, he’s being priced at £100+ because of players like Dembele, Felix etc who have gone for that sort of money.

I just don’t understand, as others have pointed out, what Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho has to do with almost anything your taking about.
