It’s not certain this season will not be complete. If covid is as worst like last year and season. So why so spend so much on a uncertain premier league and football season?

Covid has just blow up again and it will be worse when the weather get colder.
Moyes and two West Ham players already test positive. And the weather is not even cold yet. Not a flue season yet.

With United current squad. Is good enough for top 4. But with Sancho, not enough to win premier league title. But again. Not sure this season will be finish. If more players get Covid during this season. Then matches will maybe postpone or delay. Then you have the Euro 2021.

So football like rest of the world. Go into uncertain winter season. And spending big and alot on uncertain seaon and future. I am on the group to save money. Spend big when covid is over or the world have medicine for it.

But spending big in uncertain season. Then Sancho price shall not be over Pogba world record price back then. 90 £ mill.
Kevin De Bruyne price back in 2015, was at 55 £ mill.

So to be really honest. 110 £ mill for Sancho. Its bit greedy. Double as much as De Bruyne.
Yeah the seller can set which price they want. But the buyer can accept it or not.
Personally and really honest. Dortmund value Sancho too high. 115 is maybe 25 £ mill too much.

I patient and be willing to wait another season or few years. To the rising of new really good right wing players.

Ih this uncertain time and future. I will not spend big. Hit your rivals when they are theirs weakest. Liverpool are at theirs strongest and peak. About few years. Greenwood and Uniteds youngster on theirs way to the peak. And Liverpool get two years older. Its all about the timing. So stay home from Dortmund shop and save the money.
I am satisfy with Greenwood, DVB, and Mata as right wingers opions.
When Ole has use Lingard as RW. Why can not DVB play as RW. I have heard many said DVB is versatile. I am sure DVB can do a consistent good job as RW too. Level up from Mata and Lingard.

So Sancho and this covid time is special. Really uncertain time , season and future.
The opposite end of the spectrum is that maybe the season WILL finish and things won't be as bad. We cannot base anything on ceetainties or uncertainties.

To be honest I’m happy with a front 3 of Rashford - Martial - Greenwood for one more season. They had a really good return last season and they’re all young enough to potentially significantly improve this year.

We need a centre back though.

At times they do look very good when they are clicking, but when you see chances go begging in games because we have no one in the box, then you wonder what the feck are we doing. Greenwood looks good, maybe it's time to move him to the middle even though he is very young.

About the center-half, you are right about that. Maybe we should grit our teeth and try and get Upamecano out from Leipzig this summer while we can, because when his fee is lower, he is bound to sign for someone else. Maybe Konate if he has recovered from his injury or even Badiashile.

Mate my seat belts are still on and secured. Choo choo let's go
I believe anyone who thinks this is dead should treat this thread as locked and ignore. There is no point coming in here and mocking the believers. We will have the last laugh. I assure you. Everyone will be quick to join in the celebrations when he’s lifting the number 7 shirt!

Why are people so sure that the season will get cancelled due to a second wave? The amount of managers /players that are getting /have gotten Covid already points towards individual games being postponed /delayed but any games that can continue will continue.

Can't see it getting cancelled again. The virus isn't going away so as long as testing is regular and players isolate when required it's just business as usual.

It really doesn't make any difference if sport continues.

The season won't be cancelled, but I think financially for some clubs it'll be impossible to operate or sign players.

United are lucky over the next 2 years honestly, since match day revenue is important but not as important.

No fans in stadiums actually really suits United next year (its an unfair advantage over other clubs)

Dortmund's capacity is 81.365.. but were only allowed 9 300 for their home game at the weekend.. The Premier league clubs will now have zero supporters at all their games until further notice.. :(

It's ok though, cause they can go to the pub and watch it in and even tighter space that isn't open air.

I think the bigger concern is the sponsorship deal with Chevrolet expiring in the middle of the worst world recession for a century.

Yes there is, that's the whole point of a football forum, or a conversation in general.

Ed talking about needing to be careful financially during a window where it was crucial to build on the momentum generated last season sure brings memories of that 1.5 billion taken out by our dear owners.

I'd imagine clubs will be getting some additional income due to the increased numbers of games being televised. Any game that wasn't already licensed to sky/bt should be allowed to be put up as pay per view.

Woody should be marketing it as money directly funding transfers, the muppets would be out in force.

IMO Fletcher doesn't say this if he's not 90% sure that Sancho ain't coming this summer.

Which, as I've long said, is fine. Why all this focus on him then? We need a replacement for Matic, we need a better left back, we need something else behind Greenwood than James and Mata. So why not say, early on, forget Sancho we'll loan cover and then we'll strengthen elsewhere.

Wouldn't be shocked to see us sign nobody else before deadline day.

Don't think you could weasel out here  There's a gargantuan amount of egg heading towards the faces of you guys, and there's no saving you, muhahaha.

Which would have an impact on us too, correct? I presume what you are saying is next year, BVB should not expect lucrative bids for Sancho. But here's the thing. If Woodward and co reckon that United's finances are going to be under severe strain next season, then the gap between what we are ready to offer and BVB's own valuation of what they could potentially get for Sancho next year (even under a more depressed market) might be just too big to bridge.

We have significant deadwood on our payroll. Which no one is looking to buy. Next year moving them would be even tougher. So we might as well not count revenue from player sales to fund any new acquisition. Add to that our significant wage bill. Bottom line, BVB might be desperate to sell, but it's quite likely that United aren't able (or unwilling) to afford Sancho even at a discounted valuation.
You are right, United are badly impacted by Covid-19 but our reliance on stadium revenue is less.
From my understanding of our finances, we dont have enough cashflow now to fund BVB demands and certainly not next year. And no other clubs will be able to afford more than £108m next year either.

That’s what makes BVB’s game of chicken very dangerous to themselves, as keeping their player is highly unlikely to produce a buyer willing to pay more next year than United.

I think Uniteds best bid is around £50m up front and 2x£20m over next 2 years. Perhaps some add on, but they’d be dependent of United earning extra income so would be winning PL or CL.

BVB didn’t believe that’s all we had, well they’ll see our annual report soon and the deal will happen pretty quickly after that. Cash from Selling deadwood will help us a great deal too.

With the news that spectators won’t be returning to live events any time soon, I can’t see us spending in excess of 100million
As good as he is, I'd rather have Bellingham in 3 years, tbh.
what and go through this whole saga again? No thanks

Dunno it’s like some weird incestuous league where they are happy so long as a player doesn’t come to the premier league.

Definite case of league envy. ;)
Inferiority complex.

They also have a lot of history with the English.

In the end I think the Germans are secret admirers of the English. They are just too shy to admit it. Its love all around.

Just give us Sancho you can have Hudson Odoi for now

Have Bayern fans suddenly become love child’s of Dortmund? Sancho, Dortmund and Utd have absolutely nothing to do with Bayern, yet your obsessed.

Would be coming full circle replacing a former Watford product with a current Watford player

Why would Darren Fletcher know about United's transfers? I agree it's dragged on for too long now and seems really unlikely, but everything Fletcher said last night sounded just off the top of his head.

Said in the other Sancho thread, about how it's gone cold, the only noise on a Sancho transfer is coming from Dortmund. I can't help but think that they are the ones showing the desperation here, desperate to sell before this window closes. Dortmund keep briefing the German media about their bemusement at our lack of bid, and how we haven't even spoken to them.

I feel like Woodward and Judge have decided to go for Sancho in January after the winter is out of the way, and when we have a better idea of when fans will be allowed into stadiums again, when they are predicting he will be cheaper than the current price. Dortmund maybe fear the same, that it will be much more difficult for them to command such a fee for him, once we have got through a winter without fans in stadiums, and the possibility of Sancho or they as a club having a dip in form, or us being in good form or even focusing on different targets who have become available.

It's a game of poker, the question is who is going to show their cards first.

Why do we count on the current squad being good enough for top 4 exactly? Isn't that exactly what we've done every other time we've finished top 4 post-Fergie and failed. Every single one of our rivals has notably improved over the summer except for us pretty much. The tally required for 4th last year was very low on the basis that so many of the top teams totally screwed up at the start of the season. This concept that we can rest on our laurels is a recipe for disaster.

On covid, nobody knows for sure, but this is just giving the owners/Woodward a get out clause. All our rivals are out their spending and improving, yet we the club that brag about being the biggest in the world and can do what others can dream of in the transfer market can't because of the pandemic. It's simply not going to wash. I'd imagine it's very unlikely the season is simply cancelled. They have got in a protocol now of how you can actually play games through a pandemic, something that didn't exist in March.

A lot of this post I would simply question where is the ambition of the club, as it reeks of settling for 2nd best. You will never close the gap using the logic here as you could always argue what's the point, we won't win the league anyway. It's this sort of mentality that allows long term rot and decline to set in like what happened at Arsenal.

On the price thing, I see some fans almost blaming Dortmund as cnuts for setting too high a price. Are these fans for real? Dortmund are free to set whatever price they like for their asset tied to a long term contract, the price is hardly unreasonable given what else you see flowing about the market currently. If we can't/don't want to match it that's on us.

Oh 100%.

They did the same with Havertz and Chelsea.

Small time league insecurity.

This is what drives me mad about how we conduct business. If Sancho is too expesive, then quickly move on and be direct about the club's other needs and get those deals done before the start of the season. Now they are stuck in another situation where it is x player or bust at the end of the window, leaving the fans and team frustrated to start the season and in a desperate bargaining position. They keep thinking that these "selling clubs" will flinch at the end of the window, but we have yet to see that happen. F'ing groundhog day.

Obsessed is letting him off easy.

These guys ffs.

I am sure a man who played for Manchester United and coached at the club has better contacts there than the key board experts on twitter. No?

I was called funny things here months ago for merely suggesting things like "You'll have to meet their price". Club affiliation isn't important anymore when people ridicule you for just your opinion. I'm not below enjoying to see you guys squirm now, far from it

Yea it's definitely strange seeing that you don't see it in other leagues where legitimate rivalries are still alive and clubs have more pride. Other fanbases typically delight in their rivals losing players.

In Germany it seems like everyone is resigned to being Bayern's whipping boy and feeder system and Bayern and their fans in turn project a weird sort of smug paternalism when it comes to other German clubs. It all comes off a little feckless on the rest of the leagues part.
