Reminds me of school when some nerd did all the extra homework and teachers and parents started to ask normal kids why they didn’t do the same. And everyone hated the nerds for this.

I’m not a big fun of Maguire and Shaw going back early but I also can’t understand why fan don’t see the difference. I believe Sancho wes quite busy moving to Manchester, finding a new house, new car, taking car of stuff in Dortmund so Ole and the coaches decided to give him a few more days. It’s not very easy to move to a new place and you don’t want to start your new job right after your plane landed.
I guess a player like Sancho can afford a PA/team to assist with all that stuff and could be here playing if he felt ready. I imagine all the crap he had to deal with after Euros meant he needed that mental break, and hopefully we see the benefits of it as the season goes on.

I love all these “you wouldn’t do X and Y if your employer asked you to” type comments, as if shelf stacking or grinding out 9-5 in the office is in any way comparable to kicking a football around for £200k a week.

I’m sure he has help but they can’t do everything.

They get that kind of money because they are that good not because they don’t need good working conditions, holiday, rest etc.

Football is a team sport. When some team-mates show a commitment to the team that isn’t shown by others then that’s not ideal. Self-sacrifice is part and parcel of elite sport. Just ask all the olympic athletes we’ve been watching on tv these last few weeks how many sacrifices they made (and will continue to make) in pursuit of sporting excellence, for a tiny fraction of the financial upside enjoyed by PL footballers.

It’s reasonable to comment on this and it has absolutely nothing to do with the situation Rashford finds himself in.

So how many games has he missed then due to his lack of sacrifice? The season has not started, and by the time it does, he will be available to his team if called upon. This sounds like hysterics born out of frustration that some grown ups haven’t had a training pic to put  emojis to yet. If he trains for a week before the season starts that’s it, he’s available.

Well said.

It's no wonder why we have more athletes speaking up about their struggles with mental health, when fans expect them to sacrifice everything no matter the cost.

Like everyone I think increased awareness of mental health is great.

But if you just shout "mental health" at everything it becomes devalued.

There's nothing to suggest that's the reason Jadon has taken more time. For all we know he might just want more time on the beach. Simple as that.

Nobody has aked him to sacrifice everything(where have you got that from?!).

But he is returning just about as late as possible. I'm guessing as late as any other Prem player?

Apart from exceptional cases like Varane all players must be back now right?

There's nothing wrong with increased awareness of an issue that affects so many people & continued spotlight on that particular issue doesn't devalue it at all.

I didn't suggest Sancho has taken 'more time' (where have you got more from? He's taken the exact time the club have allowed him to) because of mental health. I made a general statements about athletes.

He's returning when the club have allowed him to return, he hasn't gone AWOL or missed sessions he was meant to attend.
He just didn't cut his holiday short, and some fans have taken an issue with that.

I know it's very unlikely, but I hope he starts on Saturday

I wonder how long it will take before we get a general sense that he's better on the left than on the right? Tends to be how things go with our wingers, Amad aside.

No preseason to speak of. He’ll be getting minutes at the end of matches for a few games I’d say.

Yeah well, I have no sympathy tbh. I'm happy for him to have his 'full holiday' as he deserves but as he said in his instagram, the hard work starts now. With Rashford out, he is needed on one of the wings.

No, they get that kind of money because there’s that much money in football.
They get that kind of money because what they do is unique and there are only so few that can do it at that level. And what they are doing is high in demand.

Supply and demand!

Do you never watch football games live in the stadium or on Sky/BT? Do you never buy football shirts or other football merchandise etc? If you do any of those things then you are adding to 'kicking a football around for £200k a week'.

Even if you don't spend any money relating to football, then why do you even watch/follow football or talk about it on a football forum if you have a problem with what they earn?

Lets be fair, if you've played in an international tournament with as close to the new season as this one has had, a "full pre-season" is pretty redundant. He'll need some minutes to tune up to full sharpness but he has been in training near enough all summer so he should be fit enough to see the bench at the weekend.

Guessing you mean purely Manchester United players? Even then there's Cavani.

Foden, Sterling, Stones and Walker returning to City training today, Jordan Henderson returned to Liverpool on Friday, Saka to Arsenal on Wednesdayish then there's a few cases like Laporte isolating so he's not returned to training at all yet.

Ole said him and varane will be on the bench didn't he?

He said he hopes they've been looking after themselves and if so they'll play a part.

Be great if we see both of them at some point. Reckon more chance of seeing Sancho than Varane though.

Need him to start fecking training with us. Grealish has already made his debut

I meant generally really. Wasn't sure but imagined there can't be many who aren't now back.

It isn’t mandatory for a footballer to have to go through a pre-season process before they start games. Numerous players have returned to clubs on the week of a season opener and started games.

He'll feature v Leeds.

Grealish played in a cup final two days after signing for City: why would we hold one of our best players back in our first game of the season?

Get him straight in and consign shite like James to the stands.

Christ people on these forum really don't see football players as humans do they? Yes Sancho needed a little bit more time before the season starts. Big whoop. He could have a million reasons why he wanted these few extra days. Family issues, mental helath, moving to a different country, fatigue etc. Yes. He gets paid millions for playing football. Yes he is very lucky and he makes more money than 99% of us. So what? Just because he plays for your club doesn't mean that he is supposed to act like some kind of a machine that operates by the intrest of Manchester united. That doesn't mean he is unprofessional or lazy or doesn't care enough. Get a grip people. Of course it's very different from any other job out there but at the end of the day no matter hom much he cares or how motivated he is to succeed it's still a job for him.

Who cares about pics ? I want to see a video from training
You're on a forum where the Varane thread had countless posts wanking over flight tracking, and you are questioning why people want to see pictures of Sancho in a untied training kit playing ball?

I'm not commenting on the morality of what they earn, simply that it's a bit silly to compare what they do to your average job. Or are you going to argue about that?

I agree but he’s missed a lot of intensive work. I’d be very surprised if he starts until September, just a feeling. He’s new. I could see someone like Pogba starting on the left against Leeds after only 45 mins with Donny in the middle but they knows the ropes at this stage. I hope I’m wrong and Jadon starts and kills it but anything I’ve seen from Ole makes me think he’ll be integrated into the team to get his confidence and fitness up. Ole is just that kind of manager.

September? Anything you've seen from Ole? In what way? The way Maguire was signed and started against Chelsea on the opening day? Or the time Bruno signed and played after 1 training session?

What kind of manager is he then?

they did preseason with their other clubs/were signed mid season. What’s with the needlessly aggressive tone?

what kind of poster are you then?

League 2 players don’t earn so much so I believe it has something to do with talent.

Talent is half of it. Every single top class footballer you will ever see talks about the desire to run through brick walls in order to win. It's why the likes of Ronaldo and Ronaldinho dropped off so quickly once the raw talent alone was no longer enough to keep them competitive. I'm not judging him for not doing it, but it would be perfectly reasonable to think a player desperate to succeed would be chomping at the bit to get back and get started.

It's not unique to football either. Many half decent jobs will want you to prepare before you officially start, and if you want to start well you will do it.
