Slated before the first kick of the ball.

He's not being slated. Not just directed at you but lets not do that forum thing of turning fairly mild comments into "slating, narrative, toxicity"
Can we have an exchange that doesn't involve some kind of outrage

@AFC NimbleThumb neither me or anybody else has said he shouldn't have any holiday. You can't possibly think that's what we meant.

I'm sure everyone is really looking forward to him.

It's just a bit of disappointment he won't be fit for the start.

It’s not necessarily that he ‘Should’ it’s that he ‘Could’ as other players have and because he hasn’t people are frustrated that he’s missed out on vital team bonding and will now be unlikely to start the first game of the season. Won’t be an issue if we win, but people are just disappointed we won’t have all our best players available to give us the best chance to win. Winning the title is a very hard task, every game is important.

I think if the media hadn't mentioned Shaw and Maguire cutting things short no one would have mentioned this.

But surely the fact they have cut their holiday short should count for something? Do you think if we’d signed Ronaldo a month ago he wouldn’t be ready to play against Leeds?

I agree with the last sentence but it feels like that is the norm these days. When was the last time we signed someone early summer and said person was ready to go for GW1?

He 'could', and you criticize that he didn't.. so then he 'should', no?

I'm just amazed at the lack of common sense and proportion

I’ll praise a player when they put the club first and criticise when they don’t, that’s not really a new thing. Maybe Bayern fans have forgotten what tough competition is like. Must be lovely knowing you can go into the season with no preseason and still piss it.

Lukaku, Matic, AWB, and even Maguire who was signed very late.

Yeah of course. It's great leadership by Maguire and I'm obviously happy Shaw has done the same. Maguire has had a lengthy period injured so likely feels ready and rested whilst I'm not sure on Shaw's usual regime but he's struggled with his weight and fitness so perhaps this is something he always seeks to do?

Just not sure how we can judge Sancho against two already established United players. Especially when you consider the mental strain he's faced with regards to the penalty miss, racism, moving from another country etc.

Yeh fair enough. Hopefully the break will do him good and he starts on all cylinders. History suggests to me that players who integrate quickly into the squad seem to do better though.

Let's just hope he starts like a house on fire. Too early to say whether a lack of preseason will positively or negatively affect him.

Maybe he is just that sort of player who can light it up and gel with teammates without having much training.

He's literally in training the day after tomorrow, can we stop this shite talk.

For those questioning why he isnt back yet, the guy was actually training at his holiday location, working out in the gym and at the beach doing physical drills and all (seen it in his IG), so at least he will be in tip top condition physically, as for match fitness, he was training consistently during his time with England setup so he won't be that rusty, so a couple of sessions this week with the first team should be enough for him to be part of the match day squad for the Leeds game.

We should never have signed a player with this kind of mentality. He has zero interest in winning the title.

Wait until we're told that he isn't going to join training until later in the week now

Ole himself said he'll be training today.

I'm guessing you got hoodwinked by this fake account

I worded it wrong the first time and it made it sound like I was saying completely different to what i meant to say, have edited it since.

On another note, we have a smiley for "wenger" ( :wenger:) but now we should update this to include some for our more contemporary rival managers. Should be a fun one to include a Klopp going bat-shit crazy. @Damien

change the :"houllier": into :klopp: ?

He's a lazy fecker in my FM save too. Always poor in training and 'feeling jaded'. Surely our scouts have a copy of the game?

In all seriousness, i don't think it gives the best first impression to his teammates, especially when some of them who actually played all the Euro games cut their holidays short and he who played once didn't. Still, if he turns up and smashes it from the off nobody will care.

So the last few pages have been folks sitting comfy in their homes criticising a young player for not cutting his perfectly legal holiday (offered by the club by the way) short? Wow...

Have you changed jobs before? And if you had a annual leave in between, did you cut yours short? If football = hanging out with mates and kicking a ball from time to time we'd all be doing it.

This destructive mindset of expected self-sacrifice is rather toxic and is exactly the kind of culture that caused Rashford to be in the current pickle he finds himself in now.

To those that cut their holidays short, it's commendable, it doesn't mean however that those that don't have done anything wrong. I'm finding it hard to believe this conversation has carried for this long.

Red flag that, suspecting “medical” involvement from the Jamaican delegation

Well said.

It's no wonder why we have more athletes speaking up about their struggles with mental health, when fans expect them to sacrifice everything no matter the cost.

This, alongside some of the stuff about Messi (people saying Messi should’ve signed for a lot less and stayed at Barca); it’s really strange how a chunk of the ‘Caf is siding with billion pound institutions over the individual man.

Like, I know they earn a lot of money, but they’re still just one person in each case!

Football is a team sport. When some team-mates show a commitment to the team that isn’t shown by others then that’s not ideal. Self-sacrifice is part and parcel of elite sport. Just ask all the olympic athletes we’ve been watching on tv these last few weeks how many sacrifices they made (and will continue to make) in pursuit of sporting excellence, for a tiny fraction of the financial upside enjoyed by PL footballers.

It’s reasonable to comment on this and it has absolutely nothing to do with the situation Rashford finds himself in.

Reminds me of school when some nerd did all the extra homework and teachers and parents started to ask normal kids why they didn’t do the same. And everyone hated the nerds for this.

I’m not a big fun of Maguire and Shaw going back early but I also can’t understand why fan don’t see the difference. I believe Sancho wes quite busy moving to Manchester, finding a new house, new car, taking car of stuff in Dortmund so Ole and the coaches decided to give him a few more days. It’s not very easy to move to a new place and you don’t want to start your new job right after your plane landed.
