Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

Yeah papers are reporting somewhere between 12-15 million. No idea where the 23 million comes from.

20 odd million?!

He's done practically nothing in 18 months and couldn't even break into an Everton side who were desperate to get Pienaar back after Arteta left

When he was 18 and given his physical attributes he had a great potential but he really hasn't developed the way people expected

I doubt he'll get 10 starts for city next year

City need cover, hence a player like him.
Everton won't sell for less and its City, hence the price tag. The path to the regular matches just got tough for rodwell. Would be lucky to get a break but he is going to get paid well anyway. Upto him to make something out of it.

Disappointed, hopefully still time for a last minute bid! Makes sense for Everton though, think he was one of their highest earners and just didn't spend enough time on the pitch to justify it for them.

Also anybody else surprised that we didn't bid for him(no reports of that till now, I might be wrong ofcourse). We've been linked with him for ages, so it's obvious we rate him or have rated him in the past.

Well, I'm perfectly happy that we didn't buy him. I don't see the quality in him. He's not a top four player, I get similar vibes to the Henderson-transfer. Just not good enough.

I'd say a player like Tom Cleverley is a lot better.

Always thought he could be a great player for us and he has goals in his locker too. But Fergie knows best and maybe reckons Tunnicliffe will be good enough without worrying about signing someone else. Cleverley looks like he could be ready this season and with Powell and Tunnicliffe coming through then maybe Fergie is satisfied with that.

Id prefer Barkely over Rodwell anyday but maybe Everton will not be under pressure to sell for a long time with the Rodwell money they get to pay off debt. I just hope we dont ignore Barkely now and then watch him go on and become a world class player in a few years. We can forget about Baines coming here on the cheap now too.

I think City have bought themselves a top prospect that will not have injury issues. Its common for top young prospects to be plagued by injuries in the early part of their careers before eventually overcoming them.

Happy for Everton that they got £15M for him, at least city spend silly money within the league so other teams can strengthen.

How do you know we didn't bid for him? Maybe that forced Cities hand and is the reason they closed out this deal now despite not needing another CM.

Once again i'm not disappointed to lose out. Rodwell has always been a good talent but he seems to have lost his way, partly due to injuries. I was worried Man City would sign someone with more proven ability than him.

This gives them more depth but he'll be lucky to get a decent amount of playing time.

It reminds me of joe cole to be honest ie a player whose constantly linked with us without ever signing with us. Saf may have thought hes too injury prone

I have been crying out for a cm for years however i wouldnt want rodwell. Hes injury prone + we already have too much potential (ando, clev, powell, tunnicliffe)

Good signing for City, covers 2 positions. Not an ideal move for Rodwell though, he needs regular football. Will be a squad play at City.

I think this is a terrific bit of business by City. Rodwell is class and if he can stay clear of injuries he will grow into a super player. You see 2-3 years ago when his stock was highest clubs were put off by a £20-25million plus valuation. Now his stock is low and he has slipped off the radar his value is lower and worth the figures mentioned.

A great move for him it will improve him as a player with the quality around him. Mancini is obviously looking long term now rather than a short-term fix.

Phil Jones is a better player, more experienced, can play CM/CB/RB - why would we bid for Rodwell when Jones is a better more versatile player?

How is he class? I barely recall ever thinking he was THAT good. There's a reason he's gone right off the radar. I've completely lost track of him. Why didn't he play last season? Injuries? If so it's too soon to say that he's class. Let's wait and see how he recovers from them. Or perhaps he actually did play and was completely anonymous.

I think if City have paid any more than 12mil, it's poor business.

I've never thought Rodwell will become CB. He's never striked me as having the necessary attributes.

the sad thing for Everton is that Moyes will probably get nothing from the inital 15 million to spend - maybe a cheeky million or two

it will all go to the banks

Better CB cover than Savic and can do a decent job in midfield should they need to rest Barry. Decent signing probably as a squad player
