Jack Grealish

125 million is too much mate! He’s good, very good. But 125 million is just a crazy number especially given the days we live in.

he creates lots of chances, but the problem with signing him would be where to fit him. He plays generally as a LW or AM. These are the positions we need to strengthen the least. Does he play on the right? Not sure
125 million is a lot even though I think he's a phenomenal player. If we are talking realistic it is looking like a fee of 60 million which is probably the ball figure we're talking about at the minute.

He has the potential to be a Galatico signing... Good looking/Great/hair/Great calves. The right age as well.

@FootballHQ Reckon you'll keep him long term?
Depends if we make top 4. If we do we have a great chance. With this ownership we'll invest heavily again next summer and the caliber of player we target will be even higher. That will narrow down the number of clubs he can realistically go to. If he does leave, I imagine it will be one of the mega European clubs like Madrid or Bayern. Don't see him going to a Chelsea or a United after this at this point, all due respect. The window of opportunity for that was last summer.

I think the one difference in that is that English clubs will overpay for English players.

The interest for British Empire players have gone up to the point where they are being signed by leagues and clubs in the European Continent but I dont see anyone really buying them for 80 million just yet from Aston Villa.

United will though.

Didn't mean to laugh but couldn't help. Bayern just won't pay that much (or need him) and Real won't buy him.

And if you think he won't goto Chelsea, United, Pool, City or even Arsenal , then you are just fooling yourself. With all respect to Villa, one single freak season during covid isn't going to help you retain him.

Grealish would jump at the chance to join United. We just won't pay the stupid transfer price.

Really the only club I can see doing that is United as they have the cash and clout. City could too, but I don't think they spend more than 60m on a player, it's a weird policy they have.

Laugh at what, that he's good enough for those teams? He's one of the best players in the world at the moment, his stock is still on an upwards trajectory. There's a Euros coming up. His marketability is through the roof. He's exactly the type of player Madrid would look at after a season like that.

If he would jump at the chance to join United, he would have done so this summer when there was reported interest after we stayed up by the skin of our teeth and you finished 3rd. Can't see how that would suddenly change if we miraculously make top 4 this season.

How could he jump if United never made an offer?

Villa aren't finishing top 4 nor is Grealish rejecting a move to Chelsea if they came in for him

Do you really think Madrid are going to fork out the £80m+ it'll cost to get him?! Absolutely no chance. Their finances are in the gutter and I seriously doubt they see Grealish as their go-to guy to sort them out.

Spurs or Man United next season if I had to guess.

Was he good against you?

Im a fan but I didnt see much of him today to be honest.

I'd say small chance of City too maybe for the trouble they are having to cover David Silva.

For all those wondering if he can play on the right, I’d say having watched him he’d be better on the right than 99 percent of the specialist right sided forwards.

Also Rashford can play on the right and so can Diallo.

Grealish can play on the right, middle and left.

It is an absolute no brainier of a signing @£100 million, especially if we let pogba go for £50 million.

I mean Rashford, Martial and Greenwood cost next to nothing, £100 million in Grealish added to that front line is fair game.

The average age of the four of them would be 23, that’s some serious forward planning right there, bring in some very talented youngsters which we have and the long term conveyor belt is humming once more.

He's absolute quality and would improve us. He'd cost a fortune though given he's recently singed a new contract.

I do think he'll leave Villa for a top English club in the summer. We may really regret it if he goes to the likes of City and makes a big impact.

Not saying we will, not even close. It's a crazy season though and there is a slight chance, so I'm trying to envision a scenario where he stays which was the question posed.

Yeah I'm not too familiar with their finances to be fair. I'm just seeing a lot of similarities to that Bale season in terms of rapid progression and output. He seems like exactly the type of player they would have signed if they were still of the interest of assembling Galacticos. Right age, marketability, everything. That's actually good news that their finances are in the gutter :D

He was ok, nothing crazy.

He's an excellent player though who will only look better when he's playing with better players than Bertie Traore.

So much so that he would sign a five year contract with Villa while being chased by United.

If he were as desperate to join us as you make it sound then surely signing that contract was a stupid idea, wasn’t it?

Do you think that really means anything? Do you see Grealish staying at Villa for 5 years?

I dont think there's a more perfect player for the way we play than him. God I'd love to see him in our side.

this is one funny post. The first and last couple of sentences are just fun to read, all due respect

Of course it means a lot. It means that a club like Aston Villa can hold on to him for three years and still sell him for a huge fee while having the player contribute to the team’s efforts during that time, as opposed to having to sell for a reduced fee if his contract is about to run out. Aston Villa aren’t in the position to be able to have £80m assets leave the club for free. Pretty much only PSG and city are, and even that’s debatable.

I’d love Grealish at United.

He’s who we should sign when Pogba leaves.

Just because he signed a contract doesn't mean he wouldn't be desperate to move to a bigger club. He's obviously happy to help villa safeguard their asset, after all he owes the club alot and is a fan, but that doesn't mean anything in the grander scheme of things.

If truth be told had anyone paid what villa wanted in the summer he'd be elsewhere by now.

Sorry but grealish would be a complete waste of money on the right side.

His game is about quick movements and feints to cut inside on his right foot and pass/shoot.

That would be completely negated on the right side, he's not a run and cross type of player.

IF we signed him it would mean moving Rashford to the right.

Closest thing in football to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

Definitely disagree with the ideas that he’s a very versatile player (positionally) who can play on the right or through the middle. He’s a ball magnet creative left winger.

@FootballHQ Reckon you'll keep him long term?

Two more years I think unless we go mad and starting making top 4 which I doubt.

Tonight was one of his quieter games of the season I thought but still some lovely touches.

Think when he gets to 27 he'll want to move on like Barry did when he got around that age.

We would have been at least 2 points better off in the table now with him in the side. Playing him instead of Martial and putting Rashford up top.

I’m just speculating obviously, but seeing as there’s been no mention of a release clause from any media outlet I think it’s fair to assume that there is none. Safe to say that there’s little reason for Villa to sell him for £80m this summer when they can get the same price for him in three years’ time.

Obviously, this summer that went was a summer where few clubs were likely to spend upwards of £100m on a single player, so you’d think that if Grealish was desperate to secure a move from Villa then he’d either not sign a new contract that would disincentivise his club to sell him, or have a release clause inserted into his contract.

I just think he might be happy at his boyhood club. If he was desperate to leave in order to join United, like the initial poster I responded to suggested, then he’s going about it in a weird way. Signing a five year deal lets the club safely price you out of a potential move for another three years (just like they did this summer despite him pretty much single handedly keeping them in the PL, and which obviously is their right), so while I don’t expect him to stay for five years, I expect him to stay for a minimum of three years unless a club coughs up a ridiculous sum, which would be fairly unlikely in this climate unless other big moves happen which would fund part of the deal (Pogba leaving for a big sum for example).

there was a time when we played rashford up front. I don’t want us to repeat that. Rashford is similar to Martial. He is not a #9. Playing on the left gives him proper space to make runs, this is his game. Throwing him up front won’t help him or the team. Although grealish is a fantastic player, i dont think we need him. As i said in a previous post, he plays as a LW or AM. Our 2 best players play as LW and AM, won’t drop any of them (who would drop bruno anyways!).

The point I'm making is if the money is right the player will move. We all know the contract thing and loyalty can mean very little. Grealish has been happy to safeguard himself as an asset for Villa but for all we know there could be a gentleman's agreement that the club will let him move on if a certain fee is achieved. This would be to thank him for extending etc.

This is the kind of thing that happens behind the scenes and is very likely what's going on with Grealish.

Ffs, Rashford has missed more sitters than Martial recently (he just gets the chances because Martial pulls people towards him and he's less greedy) and his general play has been poor for a long time now.

He's evidently shown in the past his hold-up play is dire but we should play Rashford up top? Some people need to visit Specsavers and watch the games in their shop it seems.

As for Grealish, he's a great player but I don't see where he'd fit in our left-heavy attack. I'd still get Sancho and he's a lot younger.

Really the only club I can see doing that is United as they have the cash and clout. City could too, but I don't think they spend more than 60m on a player, it's a weird policy they have.

debateable. I am strict in this regard. A player is not regarded one of the best in the world after half a season of playing excellent in their own domestic league. Lots of players manage this. He could go to Real and completely flop as bigger players than him have done in the past. Barcelona too.

Not disagreeing with the point you’re making, but a gentleman’s agreement isn’t worth much to Grealish if it’s based on a “if a club pays £120m up front then we’ll let you go” sort of deal. Signing the contract puts the valuation firmly in Villa’s hands. I think we’re making the same point to be honest. I think that Grealish is happy at Villa and if the opportunity presents itself and is right for him and the club then he’ll move, but he won’t go out of his way or kick up a stink to force a move, and that’s the notion I initially disagreed with.

With the market being what it is and probably will be over the next few years, I don’t think any club’s going to match Villa’s valuation of Grealish, so the contract signing has effectively priced him out of a move. If there ever was a summer for a gentleman’s agreement I think it would have been this past summer when he kept them up by himself and made them a shit-ton of money, but I don’t even know if any club showed any concrete interest in him. We were obviously busy chasing Sancho, but if Villa had been willing to let him go for £60m or so as a thank you gesture one would think we would’ve bought him rather than van de Beek, but the opportunity for him to push through a move like that sailed once he signed the contract as the financial risk of him running his deal down vanished.

Sorry but you're getting giddy again.

Grealish is a great player and in really good form. To be in the best in the world bracket he needs to be playing in Europe and doing the business for England as a regular too.

If United, or anyone else, had paid the money in the summer he'd of left. Don't kid yourself on that one. What's likely happened now is he's signed a deal with a gentlemans agreement he'll be allowed to move on if the money is right. It helps safeguard your asset and keeps everyone happy.

If you genuinely believe he'll remain at Villa in the long term then fair enough but I'd have to say I think you're talking rubbish.

That's fair enough. I don't think he'll kick up a stink but I also don't think there were any concrete offers for him in the summer. It could be a totally different story next time and at that point we'll see how keen/willing he is to force a move.

He's playing well on the international stage too (which I value less than the PL for what it's worth). Can't really judge something that doesn't happen. That's absolutely true that he can flop. Look at Hazard, a remarkably similar player who is not having the best of times there.
