Jack Grealish / signs new 5 year contract

It seems like VDB is more suited on what we need. VDB can play as AMC and CM, covering for Bruno and Pogba. That's if we get Sancho, who can also cover Rashford, and maybe 3rd option for AMC.

Meanwhile Grealish is more of a cover for Bruno and Rashford, and that's overlapping with Sancho's.

But then we don't know how VDB adapt to the League.
Exactly, and then we don't even know how much Ajax or Villa will want for their best players, but it's good to have some choice. I was convinced Madrid will take VdB in a heartbeat, so it might be obnoxious price tag what turned them off.

I love VdB's workrate in both attack an defense, but Grealish plus Mejbri emerging could be also serious reinforcement.

Gut feeling is that we are going to get one of Grealish/VDB,would be surprised if we got neither as that would leave us short depth wise.

Yeah, think they want Graelish but if he becomes to expensive it’ll be Vdb for lot less.

Yeah very true, mind you found it interesting that Whitwell & Cooper have such differing views on Grealish situation

Not only gut feeling but an educated guess also... we have now two consecutive summer without acquiring targets for the manager's rebuild.

At some point we might be extremely lucky getting Sancho alone and close the shop because the whole league might be struck with covid in near future again... or perhaps it's time for Woodward to fully trust Ole who pushed for Bruno last summer and it was a cure for repairing club's culture of attacking football crisis.

Those of you discussing VDB do realise that we’re not in for him and never have been in for him right?

It was Van Der Sar who threw our name out there as an ‘interested party’ when Madrid cancelled the deal. He tried to get them to stump up the cash by talking about us.

So you are certain that it is Grealish or nobody for a backup AM then

Don't like that to be honest. The only place he should be trying to prove things is on the pitch.

Reminds me of the time when Lukaku was leaking the speed statistics because he was insecure about what fans thought of him. Seeing small signs here and there that his mentality just won't fit us the way Bruno does.

By those numbers we should be absolutely busting a gut to sign Buendia instead. For a foreign 23yo in only his 1st season in the EPL and 2nd in the country, who's also playing for the worst team in the league... that's a almost phenomenal productivity. A chance every 28mins, bettered only by KDB.

Well, you can't blame him though. He is so looking for that dream move and someone is actually lying about it. Unlike Bruno he really can't prove anything at Villa and too late to prove anything at a different club as well. They are primarily a defensive side yet he comes out with good numbers.

From what the Athletic are saying, Grealish was the option we were considering should Pogba have forced a move this summer. That doesn't appear to be happening now and he's settled for the foreseeable future.

Solskjaer has repeatedly made noise about signing a RW - Sancho and a ST this summer to push Martial. He's also said he believes in building from the back, and the fact we've got 7 CB's but only one of them is good enough to play week in, week out, suggests we might clear out a few of them and dip back in for a quality partner for Maguire.

In regards to midfield options, Solskajer has also said he expects Garner, Levitt and Mebrej to be playing in the first team in the next 12 months, we also tried to sign Bellingham who would have been in that bracket. So it seems he's going to give youth a chance for our midfield options this coming season. I think the most we'll spend this window will be around £100m in total, we won't be going bonkers.

You have a point really. James Ducker a reliable journalist has also said Grealish/VdB were targeted because of Pogba's uncertain future. Simon Peach another reliable journalist in a combo with Paul Hirst has also said he doesn't see us signing Sancho unless we agree at a price and that the only signing he sees us getting is a CB like Pau Torres or Rodon. Ole also saying 'we need a left footed centre back'. The athletic has also said we are no longer interested in Grealish. Henry winter a reliable journalist has said we don't need Grealish though that was more of his opinion.

I don't know really but you make a point about Ole opting to play the youth midfielders as have.

Still hoping that Cooper turns out to be right about us wanting Sancho & Grealish, however The Athletic & Ducker are very good sources too just hope they are wrong on this one

He's an interesting player. Probably doesn't have the outright speed to play wide right for United, but you could imagine him drifting in off the line and combining through the middle very nicely with Fernandes. I have only seen him on the right, but I guess he'd be just as capable as a #10. Like Grealish, he could potentially be a decent, low-cost, squad option, if his club gets relegated.

Worrying that Athletic & Ducker are confident we aren't signing Grealish/VDB now Pogba is staying

My concern is that Pogba will stay only to then throw his toys out by January. Only for Grealish and VdB to have gone elsewhere and us to have missed out on “good talent” available this year...

Im pretty sure we’d take him for a good price if Graelish is unattainable and RM isnt coming for him.He is a very big upgrade from Lingard/Pereira.

Though I agree we’ve also let VdS to use that strategy you said.

If we are after a CB instead of Grealish then the CB better be good enough to displace Lindelof. As much as people don't rate Lindelof, there aren't many CBs available right now that are big upgrades on him

I honestly think Pogba will stay.

Greenwood, Martial, Rashford, Sancho (who I think will sign) will all improve with another season under their belt, Bruno, a new CB, if De Gea gets back in forms, AWB will improve, Maguire will be settled, another CB... its honestly a frightening squad.

Pogba was tired of the team being average, which honestly has come a long way.

Fans need to get behind Pogba at OT and the fans need to chant about him/bruno and make him feel wanted, too many pundits have chatted shit about him for too long but Pogba is our best player.

Are you having a laugh? Lindelof is proper rubbish, I’d take plenty of CBs just in the PL over him. He’s a squad option at best, not a starting one.

Apparently the 5 substitution rule will carry on for the whole of next season too. Quality depth would be really important

I wonder if this will be common place not just next season now, maybe some of the rules will 'stay' as it's deemed 'normal'.

Guess you fall under this category. He's obviously not a CB that starts in a top team but saying he's proper rubbish? Really? I hope you don't rate Maguire as well

I would hope that it evolves into something where the 4th and 5th subs have to be youngsters or something rather than staying exactly the same.

I don't think it will, to be honest, I think it gives managers a better chance of 'money balling' the league, it should be exciting.

Imagine if you've got a bench on players that specialise in different aspects of the game that you can throw on when you please.

You could go from a tika taka team to a lump it in the box team in 30 seconds with 5 subs. Add's a new dimension to the game.

The amendment to Law 3 affects both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 Laws of the Game, with the latter coming into effect as from 1 June 2020.

Law 3 – The Players – Temporary amendment

In summary:

  • Each team will be permitted to use a maximum of five substitutes.
  • To reduce disruption to the match, each team will have a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game; substitutions may also be made at half-time.
  • If both teams make a substitution at the same time, this will count as one of the three opportunities for each team.
  • Unused substitutions and opportunities are carried forward into extra time.
  • Where competition rules allow an additional substitution in extra time, teams will each have one additional substitution opportunity; substitutions may also be made before the start of extra time and at half-time in extra time.

Its a FIFA rule update, it's not even a question, it's a law passed by FIFA.

Im basically in agreement with most of your post but if we only have 100 million to spend where's it going? Sancho or a CB ? Can't see 100 million being enough for Sancho and a CB.

I'm of the opinion we need a CB as a priority to link up with Maguire as he lacks that yard of pace and flat footed at times.

They aren't generational talents. We can easily find other top players.

It depends on where United finish in the table, and prize money from the FA Cup and Europa League, but also United will offload players.

Sanchez, Rojo, Smalling, Jones, Lingard will all give result in money for a CB, there's also rumours of Mata leaving.

It will go on Sancho and we'll look to sell about 4 players and get a new CB in IF we can I think. That will be our business this summer.

I think we'll put a lot more emphasis on global scouting of under 18's after all this so we stop getting rinsed, especially considering we don't know when we'll stop losing money.

We don't desperately need CB cover but we do desperately need attacking reinforcements.

TBH there isn't any amazing CB's available right now anyway apart from Koulibaly (expensive and a risk) or Upamecano (a bit dodgy too)

Exactly this. We have Lindelof Bailly and Tuanzebe as possible partners for Maguire. If we are spending money (40m +) on another CB signing to partner Maguire, I'd like him to be more proven. And asides from Koulibaly there really aren't any other options that are proven consistent quality. Koulibaly hasn't even had a good season and has a high price tag. So I'd leave CB for now and get Grealish. Would like Alaba though but we don't seem interested

We differ slightly then as I'm of the opinion CB followed by Sancho. All will be revealed in the coming months though..

Off topic as not allowed to post in F1 thread but enjoy reading your comments which are very informative.
