I'd probably take Grealish & Maddison before I started looking at a DM, but I don't see that happening and a RW is a must for us.

100% agree, What happens if Bruno gets injured for three months or even the season? We are absolutely fecked.

We have Scott, Fred, Bruno next season and need another two midfielders with an AM been one of them. Grealish fits the bill and won't cost an arm and a leg if Villa get relegated. I still would like another box to box midfielder though. I'm sure there's some bargains out there at a good price for 30-40 million.

Our attack is Rashford, Greenwood,Martial and James. A RW is an absolute must and maybe a striker on loan. Obviously Sancho fits the bill and we should go all out for him.

This is what is needed 100% for the club unless we want to watch JLINGZ and Andreas again when injuries occur.
 
I'd much rather have a CDM come into the team, but I'd really like to see both a CDM (Partey, Ndidi etc) as well as Grealish

With rotation it also means we have good options for both styles of play.
Would cost less than one Pogba also... I'd hope anyway!
 
If the 45 million release clause is at all true we should buy him. We need a squad to compete not just a starting 11. He could easily be a starter here but absolutely could give us phenomenal depth

So much muppetry in this thread.

There's literally nothing stopping Grealish walking into our starting 11 (if Pogba leaves) and there's even less stopping him slotting in at right wing and ghosting past players and delivering killer balls like he does. Obviously you play your best right footed player on the left wing, which is what Villa are doing, but he's talented enough to play RB for us and make it look good.

Modern football is so fluid nowadays but some of you are still obsessed about where some journo puts them down as playing and then claiming they couldn't possibly play anywhere else. I'd play him wherever I could because he's solid gold class and runs his socks off. Pep would probably play him centre mid and Southgate could play him as a deep 9 if Kane's out. He'll line up wherever we need him and by all accounts he'll bleed for the shirt too. Soon as Villa get relegated we need to throw 40mil at them and get it done.

Fred/McT don't have the skillset to play that role especially if we're going to have 2 more attacking players ahead of them in Grealish and Bruno. They are good at defending space in front of them but not the space behind them, and aren't strong users of the ball in deeper areas. Matic has looked ok since coming back but we cannot rely on him for next season, so I feel a player of that mould is more urgent than another attacking midfielder.

IMO a ball playing DM, an actual RW, a #9, and an attacking LB would make us a much more balanced side with creativity and goal threat from all sides and areas of the pitch. If after all these players have been brought in I would be fine if we brought in other AM, but we ignored glaring holes in the 11 last summer and it cost us so I hope we aren't going to do it again.
 
Vert good player who has impressed all season. I was sceptical of him previously but he has proved himself good enough in a number of games. He would bring something different to the team which we lack, and looks to be versatile enough not to be pigeon holed into a single position. If we can get him for a good price then I'd be all for it.
 
I reckon he'd be great.

He gets some unfair criticism due to the team he's in at the moment. That Villa side isn't great and must be frustrating to be in. If we did get him, I'd hope it would be a moment for him to kick on and show off his flair and pace. He'd be a great playmaker alongside Bruno.

What cost us this season was our midfield and playing Jesse and Andreas in a number 10 role. They are pure and utter useless and looks like Ole has finally learned that not even including them in the squad against Watford.

What happens if Bruno gets injured next season and is out for six months? We have no cover whatsoever. Grealish would be number one on my list of players players to sign and is a very versatile player. If we can get him for 45 million its a no brainier.

Obviously we need a box to box midfielder as well cause next season it will probably be just Fred, Bruno, Scott and Grealish.

And then a Right sided midfielder as well but never know James,Grealish, Greenwood could fill that gap as well.

I think people are been a bit critical of Shaw lately. He's playing decent and people forget he's only 24.

Its going to be one heck of a Summer.

We have about 5 attacking midfielders and 3 players who can cover the left. Another player in that mould should not be the priority. Mata can cover for Bruno, he's getting on but still more useful than Andreas and Lingard.

Pogba will most likely leave, Lindgard and Pereira and rubbish and Mata was past it a year ago.

I dont quite know about Matic, i had personally written him off as past it but hes been very good of late so maybe he has another season left in him. In any case if those 4 leave then we are left with Fred, Bruno, McTomminay, Matic and Garner. We badly need both depth and quality in midfield and Grealish gives us both considering how versatile he is

Mata is 32 in April. His legs are gone already. He's finished basically. Could you not see the attacking midfield role was a struggle all season until we signed Bruno? I can't see Mata been here next season along with Jesse and Andreas.

If Bruno gets injured we are fecked again and need that squad depth.

Grealish is probably the most versatile player in the league and we need that cover and should be signed as a priority.

I do agree we need another center midfielder as well. Perhaps Soumare who wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg.

Forward options next season: Grealish, Rashford, Martial, James, Greenwood.
Midfield Options next season: Grealish, Scott, Fred, Matic, Bruno, Soumare

I can't see us signing Sancho or more than two players even with Pogba leaving.
 
I think Mata will still be here next season. In a coaching role alongside Nicky Butt. Lingard will be sold and Perriera will be kept.
 
Neves and Grealish with a right winger should be considered as an ideal summer based on our current situation (league position for last few years, not having a well known top manager) but with these new players we can be back in the tittle run so that we can start adding few more star players if needed.

When we knew Lukaku was leaving in last March we didnt address to fix our centre forward position, Hope we dont repeat that mistake this summer and quickly conduct our business before EURO's.
 
I can see Grealish playing the 'mezzala' role in a 4-3-3, like Pogba did last season during that brilliant run. It looks like a realistic target based on ability, character (good team player, and another potential captain) with no adapting barriers, and the transfer price being surely more reasonable than what Leicester could ask for Maddison.

Maybe we concede a bit more by leaving Fred or Scott alone in front of defence, but it would be well invested if we add more creativity going forward. We look better defending than attacking this season, which is giving us a solid platform in the big games, but doesn't solve anything for us against those who are happy to sit and contend us.

If we can add a second source of creativity in midfield and a proper RW to the starting line up I can see us getting some fun and being more regular against the minor sides. If needed in certain games we can always go back to Scott-Fred with a number 10 ahead, but normally I'd prefer 4-3-3 with 5 dynamic players as the basis to build on.
 
If Villa Stay up we should offer them a decent wedge and chuck Jesse in for good measure. He needs a fresh start somewhere I think. Not good enough for United but he has shown good patches of form in the past.

If we go into the Euros without Kane n Rashford or with them but nowhere near match fit.....then the Euros won't go well anyway.

I've said it before but his future is at CM. It's where he played all of last year and where he'd still be playing if Villa's forwards had adapted to the higher level.

I find it mad that after a few years of watching pogba struggle to be our only crrqtive player we are happy to rely on just bruno.

Surely he'd view himself above Villa's level. Not to mention they probably wouldn't want to award him the kind of wage he thinks he deserves.

Why would it double? Surely a £50m rated player won't become £100m if he doesnt play.
 
I really like Oles approach of signing captains from other clubs. For years we've lacked leaders and strong peraonalities. Players who are mentally strong, rarely injured, always want the ball. The usual idiots will scoff at this but it makes a huge difference.
 
I still think he is overvalued at 50M, for that money we could buy Odeegard or Van de Beek, but if we are determined to buy english players I hope its him and not Maddison.

They have plenty of players in that role, starting with Kross, Isco, James Rodriguez, Dani Ceballos (on loan to arsenal) I think 50M maybe a good enough quantity for them to sell Odegaard.
 
I know it's a weird question to ask, but can Grealish play the false 9 role?

I don't understand why we are linked with him after signing Bruno, but could it be that he is very versatile, and could be a backup to Martial, Rashford and Bruno? Besides playing in a 4-3-3 of course.

They have already probably used 25M on him without him even playing, and he is one of the most talented young players for that position in all of Europe. They could have him playing for them for the next 8-10 years.

100M is the bare minimum for them even considering selling him. Just like Sancho.
